man, Greta is just fantastic at portraying girlhood with all of its nuances. like, yes, Lady Bird is selfish, and childish at times, but, in my opinion, it makes the movie so much better. she feels like a real person, and you can still feel for her when she gets hurt by her mom or kyle. this is one of my favorite movies, i'm so glad you loved it!

One of the best films ever. As you may know, Lady Bird's dad is played by Tracy Letts, one of the truly great playwrights alive today. He also plays Mr. Dashwood, the publisher, in Little Women 2019. (Also directed by Greta)

i’ve watched this movie ONCE many years ago and had the same feeling of being so relatable and felt so seen that i could never make myself watch it again. the “but do you like me?” scene still haunts me and the way you yelled “OH NO” as soon as she said it is exactly how i react to it 😭

This is one of those movies that I relate to exponentially, but it's especially interesting here because I more so see my mom and sister in these characters. This movie is awesome. Growing up in Northern California (San Francisco/east bay/Berkeley area back and forth) we Bay Area folk always look at Sacramento like eww this place is a little off. Then I’ve heard Greta Gerwig in interviews mention Sacramento is like the Midwest of California… I friggin died. But I think I personally relate to Greta Gerwig’s movie making style being that we’re both Northern California millennials. If you liked this movie try Palo Alto if you haven’t already.

This movie is so fragile and beautiful in how ordinary it feels. Saoirse described it perfectly, when she said the film is like a picture book that you flip through. While there are ups and downs and a clear story being told, there's not one storyark with an enemy or a hero's journey. It's just one moment after the next after the next after the next, like real life. :) Cute movie - but I think it may even suffer from its realism a bit, because it's kind of forgettable.

Scalding hot take, but I like this movie better than Little Women. Perhaps it's because Louisa May Alcott's work stands on its own (even acknowledging Gerwig's reinterpretation), but this was an entirely original work that covered many of the same themes in a modern setting. And now 150 years after Little Women takes place, we have the benefit of modern psychology to tell us exactly how messed-up these characters are. (Also, am I just a hopeless stan for the Gillian Armstrong version of Little Women? Maybe.)
