Would be interesting to know but I don't think he'd be the same level as Lasha. Zydrunas has always been a slower lifter (relatively of course) so I don't think he'd be as well suited to the more velocity dependant lifts of weightlifting. I mean, I could be completely wrong if he had trained his whole life with the intent to be fast... it's hard to say. Also his mobility isn't great but, again, trained as a weightlifter, this may not've been the case. On the other hand, I wish we could see Lasha train the axle continental clean and press, the log press, keg toss, and circus dumbbell too! Would be so interesting.

Not like strongmen haven't been breaking certain records here and there that people didn't expect them to break. Lasha's one of a few who'd be able to do it with training. It's just not everyone is interested in Olympic weightlifting.
@emiliospowerballer14412 жыл бұрын
1 point you ignore to mention. Lasha weighs around 180kg. Its impossible to find any powerlifter at that weight. But its easy to find strongmen in that weight. When it comes to strongmen, their overhead pressing capabilities are superior to any weightlifting athletes, static or not. Sure its a beauty watching people clean and jerk 250kg, but then again, its far far more difficult pressing logs in excess of 220kg. Weightlifting is a sport of speed. Powerlifting and Strongman aren't. If we are to compare apples with apples, then strict pressing should be the key lift, not a muscle snatch. Of course Lasha can move that weight so well, but Lasha produces power from the ground up with a lot of speed to muscle snatch an x amount of weight. This move barely lasts 3 seconds. If he tried to log lift from the ground up, he would just pick it up to his knees. What weightlifters do is very impressive because they lift a lot of weight with a combination of speed and power. But nothing is more brutal for the human body than static strength and nothing is more brutal than static strength. If weight can kill you, then obviously Lasha is far away from being compared to athletes from other sports, particularly strength sports.
@tychobrahe63792 жыл бұрын
Just with a little googling, you can find several powerlifters who are or have been 180 kg,. Ray Williams being one example. Back in the day when weightlifting had the press, Vasily Alexeev was clean and pressing 230 kg while he has clean and jerking 250 kg, so saying a 220 log is more impressive than a 250 kg C&J is baseless. Yes, the log is more awkward than clean and pressing a barbell, but you can get use as much leg drive as you want to get it overhead with the log. And keep in mind most strongmen fail the press part of the log, not the clean part.
@emiliospowerballer14412 жыл бұрын
@@tychobrahe6379 If you googled a little more, you may find out that many more strongmen strict press more than 220kg in training. Savickas claimed 260kg. The log is a ton more dificult to press because bigger volume and weight is spread through out the log, thus requiring more strength to press. It is not true that most strongmen fail the press part of the log because not only is it more akward to move, but much harder to lift it for max, because most strongman competitions have the log lift as a max lift. For your information, Ray Williams weighs near 160kg, not 180kg. And hes a squat specialist.

@jackcostello57572 жыл бұрын
This years WSM has a max behind the neck press. What sort of number do you think Lasha could get on this?
@chriswebster8392 жыл бұрын
Weightlifters tend not to train OHP so much as jerks and maybe some push presses, as the jerk isn't reliant on shoulder strength to get the bar above their heads, so I doubt it'd come close to someone who actually trains overhead pressing. That said, Klokov did a 162kg strict press at some event with a max jerk of 232kg (although obviously done at different times), so with Lasha's 270kg max jerk I wouldn't be surprised if he could press more than 160kg, maybe even 180kg. It really depends how much pressing he does in training though.
@jackcostello57572 жыл бұрын
@@chriswebster839 the behind the neck press is not a strict press is much closer to a weightlifting movement. Its almost a cross between a snatch and C&J as they can gave hands almost touching the plates then split jerk above head. Hence why I assume Lasha would blow the strongmen away.
@chriswebster8392 жыл бұрын
@@jackcostello5757 for a behind the neck press you should have your hands in roughly the same position as a regular overhead press, and there should be no leg drive. If the hands are nearly touching the plates then it's a snatch grip press, and if you jerk it overhead then it's a behind the neck jerk, not a press. What you're describing is a snatch grip behind the neck jerk, not a press. A regular behind the neck press is harder than a regular overhead press, and honestly neither would have a lot of benefit to weightlifters. Lasha could probably put up some pretty solid numbers either way but if it came down to pressing, then it depends whether the strongman actually trains strict pressing versus push pressing.
@jackcostello57572 жыл бұрын
@@chriswebster839 WSM are calling it a behind the neck press but there are no rules on how you do it as long as you lock out overhead. Nearly all strongmen are using a snatch grip and then either push pressing/push jerk or the more technical ones are split jerking. The less mobile ones are using a closer grip and a push press/strict press but they're not going to do very well. The feeling is around 230kg will win

Many strength aethletes can do way more than Lasha in this, some of them probably on less steroids than Lasha.

I know he's a meme but I feel like Grizzly could actually do this. Absolutely not the squat portion because his mobility is bad, but the pull part.
@HIMCULES2 жыл бұрын
Of course he can. He does 130kg x6 from blocks.

I’m honestly skeptical he could do it from the floor, don’t think he has the mobility lol. From the blocks tho

@@tychobrahe6379 As far as muscle snatching 145kg, it is ridiculous to be debating if he can lift it from the ground. The man is doing 250kg row from the ground for reps.

So you want controversy? Here, I got you, no need to say it yourself. Lasha is the strongest strength athlete in history, no other numbers in any sport comes close to what he has done on the international stage when compared to the field of competitors and history of the lifts.
@nicholastartaglia42762 жыл бұрын
Not disagreeing with you but what would you personally have to see from a strongman, powerlifter or other strength athlete to compare with Lasha's overall strength? They don't specifically train c+j or snatch so how do you compare the individual lifts between sports?
@thorthewolf88012 жыл бұрын
@@nicholastartaglia4276 I actually agree with op, but honestly, I cant say what could elevate someone above Lasha. Maybe excelling both in strongman and weightlifting (possibly powerlifting), like Mikhail Koklyev.
@KhanBalkan2 жыл бұрын
Apple to oranges. Lasha probably couldn't deadlift 450kg like other strongmen and powerlifters. He is the strongest ever in his specific sport.
@gabrielpichorim81912 жыл бұрын
@@nicholastartaglia4276 But weightlifting is 125+ years old and is a sport relevant in the entire world with thousands of professional athletes being paid to do it. Powerlifting is relevant in a handful of countries and has only being competitive for 60+ years, most of the top lifters still have to work full jobs to pay their bills and most of the times dont even compete head to head because of different federations. Strongman is even worst in both history, relevance and number of pro competitors. Of course Lasha could not squat or deadlift 1000 lbs, but this is not my point. What he did on a sport almost perfected at this point is unheard of. What will we see in powerlifting in 60 years? I think it is safe to say, multiple 1100 kg totals. What about strongman in 80 years? Multiple 500 kg deadlifts to a point where nobody would even try it anymore since specialization in one event is not worth it. You have to remember people were using mixed grips with straps 10 years ago. Now imagine if both sports had the same prestige/money as weightlifting. In a few years every record would be demolished and we would not get half as many gym records as we see today. The sports are "young" and have much to evolve to be on the level of professionalism and competitiveness as weightlifting is today. And even being that more stablished of a sport, Lasha has absolute 0 competition, golds with openers. There is no doubt in my mind the the best weightlifters in the world are actually doing it, this can also be true for powerlifting without some hidden gems in underdeveloped countries or people not performing to their best due to family and work. But strongman is far from being saturated with the better athletes we could see. Being the strongest among the best is what (and not against a farmer/truck driver who lifts or a field of semi-arbitrary 30 which half could be replaced without changing the results very much), for me, makes Lasha the strongest on Earth.
