It seems that the greatest super heavyweights aren't known for being the heaviest squatters. I remember the legendary Vasily Alexeev, when he said he never squatted with anything heavier than 270 kilos, yet he had a 255-kilo C & J (the world record at that time in the old 110+ class), while another lifter would sometimes squat with 320+ yet he had a C & J around 220 kilos. Interestingly, Lasha Talakadze is known to be quite conservative when he trains the squat. I've watched a session where he worked up to 285 kilos for 3 doubles and you said that this was unusual from him. Close to competition, I've seen Georgia's superheavies (Lasha and Irakli) working up to a few doubles at 250 and stopping there. Squatting that kind of weight with good bar speed is probably enough for them to maintain their leg strength while saving their energy for when it counts. On that day, Lasha had enough energy to post the highest training hall total ever. A video about the use of submaximal loads to increase strength would be very interesting. Thanks!
@Derploop4 жыл бұрын
I think the big difference between the elite Chinese lifters and Lasha is the volume of competition - barely any of the lifters who've ever touched a barbell have been in Lasha's weight class, where most of them have been in that ~70-90 range. It's a lot more probable for a little gear to beat a lot of gear when there's a lower chance of the lotta gear class having had a near ideal genetic freak come through the ranks before.
