Great shooting. Really only 1 miscue that you got away with, and 1 missed shot out of the whole set of 3 games. Nice explanation of your pattern play/strategy.

14 ball miss hit looked like a scoop, so could have been called and ball in hand.
@OnTheSnap3 ай бұрын
Definitely. Scoop shots are technically cueball fouls, and could be called. As far as I can tell, they are officially considered fouls in the WPA rules, but I don't see it specifically mentioned in BCA rules. Certainly in this situation, the intent was not to scoop the CB - it was accidental. In weekly tournaments like this one, people tend to be more forgiving of that sort of thing. My opponent certainly would have been within his rights to call it on me, and I would have accepted. For my part, I can't imagine I would call foul on an accidental scoop shot in a tournament like this.

Local tournaments, dont mess up with APA rules?

Yeah this tournament runs BCA rules, which I like better overall.

So, does this tournament report to Fargo? Is there modified BCA rules as far as 2nd ball breaks and miscue scoops not being considered double hits? Not sure what the legit BCA rules are, but when I pay my local bar Fargo tournaments, I've never seen anyone doing the second ball break... maybe it's legal, but I'd like to know for sure when reporting to Fargo. If anyone knows, please inform. Good shooting, by the way!

I did find the official BCA league rules, and it says you can indeed hit any ball you want. I'm not sure if you can modify that rule in tournaments to prevent it, though. Good to know! Still don't know about the miscue being a foul or not, though. In the past, if I had scooped a ball during a miscue, I've given ball in hand just assuming I double kissed off the ferrule or shaft. I'll continue to read this new official manual for 2024 pdf and see what it says.

Miscue is not a foul, but if it causes a double hit, it would be. what I've gathered from reading. So in regard to your shot...I have no clue. Someone could probably tell by the way the cue ball acted after contact but I'm not gonna be the guy that calls it on someone else.

Thanks for the comments and questions! I do see lots of players in BCA format using the 2nd-ball break. Good to know about the miscue scoop not being a foul. I wouldn't have expected it to be a double hit or anything, just based on the CB action as you said. Miscues are always ugly, but thankfully my stroke was at least straight along my aim point, so I got away with it. This one does not report to Fargo. I kind of wish it did, because I've had some significant wins over high-rated players. Most likely the reason they don't is because of the short race and how easily a match can swing.

@OnTheSnap here in Portland, Oregon, it's hard to find tournaments that don't report to Fargo. If you do find one, it's normally full of the locals to that portion of the city bar and doesn't provide an advanced field of players. Good to have the variety though!
