It was definitely easier to do a low spend this year and was able to buy my own condo! It’ll help me save more as my living expenses are now lower so let’s see how this year goes ❤️ best wishes for everyone this year

Hair oil tip: I use a light food oil, like sunflower oil an just use a drop in my palm, rub hands together unti you don't think there is any left and just put through the ends. Works great in the winter when it's drier. Takes just the tiniest amount to make a huge difference. And you can use the oil for food prep. Plus no heavy fragrance. Enjoying your video and transparency.

For the phone that cracked since it's used for business you can get the screen fixed and write it off as a business expense. Just depends on your state.

Wow! Seeing how much you saved is incredible. I'm doing a No Buy in 2021. We are only on Day 5 and I've already spent about $100. It was on gifts for important people and on things that support my mental health. I didn't factor in how much self-care is a priority for me. I will need to add an expense for that now. Best wishes
@PersonalFinancewithLeila4 жыл бұрын
Yay good luck!! I still budgeted for gifts and yes definitely make room for the things that actually make you happy!

This year i am trying a no spend year. I will continue funding my clothes sinking fund, for example, but i wont buy anything from it (i am allowing myself replacement things, for example if i need a new pair of gym shoes because i only use one pair at a time, but i am not buying anything new or unnecessary). I will also try to actually FINISH consumable products before buying a new one, i have a lot of skincare that needs to be used.

Yay!! That's amazing, good luck! I started doing that with skin care/beauty products too and it saves so much!

I have just discovered your channel and I love it! I'd love to start a No Spend Year 2022 but I fear to break it very soon, especially regarding the expenses for my 4-year-old son. He's my weakness ❤️ and I just love to buy presents for him. However, I think I can work on a reasonnable budget without totally sacrificing the purchases for him. Thanks for the inspiration, Leila!
@PersonalFinancewithLeila3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for watching!! The best thing to do is plan out your spending for the year! This would include gifts for your son and anything else you want to still buy but limit. So it would be more of a low spend year 😊
@thomasm59224 жыл бұрын
Pretty amazing. I was listing to the part were you only paid $556 on student loans and thought she isn't going to come close to her $20,000 toward debt goal. Then you justified a few things that were not needs so I was more convinced. Then you got to the $6000 +cc and the $2000+ co-signed car and it's like you go girl justify $40 in parking all you want.

😂😂 I thought this was going to be a mean comment at first when I started reading it lol And I know at first it doesn't sound good especially with my living costs, but I'm throwing all extra income at this debt! Thank you!!
@NinaThomas4 жыл бұрын
I think it’s all about priorities. For example, I pay less than 1K on rent and live in NYC with roommates. If I paid $1500 I could live on my own but that $500+ can instead be spent on small luxuries or items I like. I do agree though that completely spending mindlessly is not wise but some people can afford it depending on their individual circumstances. (Living at home with parents could defn save a lot of money as well)
@PersonalFinancewithLeila4 жыл бұрын
Yes for sure! Saving on housing in HUGE and I know that can make a significant difference and I could see how it wouldn't feel so bad spending because of that!

I don’t think I could do a no spend year like you did but I did change how I looked at money. Prior to 2020, I always set savings goals each month however this I adjusted it to be a spending goal - which meant that months where I had more income (i.e. work bonus, birthday, Christmas, and even when I won your contest) I didn’t use that as an excuse to spend more money, I kept the same budget so my savings increased.
@PersonalFinancewithLeila4 жыл бұрын

I don't mean to sound dismissive of your accomplishments but you stated you were gifted many things. I appreciate the transparency but I feel this somewhat diminishes the purpose of the 'No Spend' efforts. Although you technically didn't make the purchases, it fulfills the want/need to have done so at no hit to your expenditures. This is a luxury the general populace is not afforded.
@spiritualinfluencer37474 жыл бұрын
I agree but disagree if she's gifted that's not out of her income which I would see it as optional. She did not say she was punishing herself she said no spending as her own money or income. The Gifts can and could include many things trips, spending cards and whatever the givers decide to bless you with.

I understand what you mean, however, the bulk of the things I received were not things I would have necessarily chosen to purchase on my own. I also am not someone who has millions of followers, so I probably only received a few hundred to $1000 in free products. I also have been creating content for years and the option to put yourself out there to do that IS available to most people.

p.s There is still a lot you could cut out. If you have a landline you don't need a mobile phone. Sometimes it's even good for your mental health to switch off. You are probably staying home anyway. Spotify not necessary- there is youtube for music. Car : you can bike or take public transport instead. Beauty products: aim to restrict it to one small make up bag. 17cmx24cm. I've been watching a lot of these american low spend - no spend videos for inspiration and seriously there is so much excess still after they declutter or reduce spending. One american woman I saw has 2 drawers of makeup! It should just fit in one bag because you are not going to wear it all at once nor finish it in one year. Plus it all should be fully portable for moving house and travel etc.
@PersonalFinancewithLeila4 жыл бұрын
I think my expenses are pretty reasonable. I wouldn't want to go out at all without a cellphone and my bill is
@kristinapaxton96864 жыл бұрын
@@PersonalFinancewithLeila I think you can get a better deal for the mobile phone. Maybe half that. Also $100 is still a lot for a music service. That could be the difference between you eating and not eating for 2-3 weeks if things went really pear shaped. That could go in your emergency fund or towards any debts instead. Also people don't need more merch. They can save money that way. Helping the planet and ourselves means we need to stop consuming 1st hand goods and buy 2nd hand (which is cheaper anyway and often in good nick) essentially joining the circular market. There is probably enough clothing in the closets of the UK and America etc to reclothe each other's nations thrice over lol. Just saying....your topic is afterall money saving and the reduction of consumption. Consider this constructive feedback :)

Another part of no spend is not living in America. Healthcare should be free. It is a basic human right. Long Live the NHS :)
@PersonalFinancewithLeila4 жыл бұрын
Healthcare here is absurdly expensive. My insurance is over $500 a month for just myself. And most people have to pay a monthly premium but still get bills for being seen. Staying healthy is a must here if you want to save.
@kristinapaxton96864 жыл бұрын
@@PersonalFinancewithLeila I agree being healthy and able to work is essential. I'm actually just coming out of shielding for my vulnerable family members (they got the vaccine) so I am starting to job hunt after a year without work and on benefits. No shame whatsoever. But I have a brother who lives in the US. I just don't understand why he would choose to live there when he can work for the same international company and get free healthcare here. He would save so much money as you say.
