I've held off for the past 11 months in wanting to buy the Tank 300. I watched in earnest your first review of the HEV and yesterday, finally got to drive it. Within the first 400 yards, I told the salesman, "I'll take it.." Funnily, the JP cars aren't doing any better compared to their European counterparts in the European reliability statistics as published by their version of the NRMA (e.g. the German ADAC). e.g. the RAV4 is one of the bottom feeders in the latest ADAC report. It has probably also to do with the density of the service network. Here in Oz, you probably have 3-4x as many Toyota service points compared to VW. In Europe, it's the other way round.

Fact check. The RAV 4 was in the top 10 for reliability of the ADAC - TUV report for 2024 (cars 2-3 years old), funnily enough this German report had German cars in in the first 7 places, then the RAV 4. Also of interest was that German cars took first to 7th spot with four German cars tied for for 4th to 7th places. Seems Audi, VW and Mercedes are the most reliable cars in Germany, who would have thought. Now to take your words of "bottom feeders" the Tesla Model 3 was actually bottom rated at number 111, (and that was below the Ford Galaxy and cars made by two Dacia). Also, couldn't find any mention that the TUV report as covering all of Europe, just talks of Germany.

Im thinking that i will wait for the phev variant, the possibility of getting 100km before even using a drop of fuel appeals to me, the local commute to the shops or work on battery will be a big saver which in turn gives me more money to go on the long weekend drives or more camping/4wd ect, the overall fuel economy will be so much better on long drives, the phev variant has a larger electric motor which will give it so much more torque for doing slow steep rock climbing. The hev variant only has a 1.8kw battery but the phev variant will have a 37kw hour battery.. you could run your house for a week off that amount of battery so running lights and a fridge out camping will be a piece of cake... if you camp at a powered site you could charge up each night and get 100km of driving around exploring the next day without dipping into the old pocket too much.. i think the phev will be a better option than the hev or non hev... yeah its going to have a higher price tag yet again but hey if ya do the math over 7 years (Warranty period) and lets say your commuting 50 to 100km a day to and from work thats 250 to 500km per week you could be saving any where from 75 to 125 bucks per week, if we just say $100 per week savings on an average, thats about $5000 per year saved on fuel, thats $35000 that stayed in your pocket over 7 years to do other things in life, no other 4wd is offering this possibility (yet)... so im gunna sit and chill save some extra cash in the mean time and wait for the phev to be released here in Australia.. love the show mate, cant wait to see whats install for 2024 🤙🍻

@thatdudethatsezshiz770611 ай бұрын
@therightcar I like to own a good thing for as long as I can... where the reality of my logic makes real sense is in a long term relationship with the vehicle... in about 2 years solid state batteries will start to be a thing that gets released in new vehicles (limited and selected vehicles at first), solid state offers approximately 3 times the distance and is approximately 1/3 lighter... the current NMC batteries are gunna be crap in comparison but they are under a warranty period which keeps me safe🤔 for a no cost replacement if the existing nmc batteries fail (🥵).. (In case of fire break glass) and call your insurance company 🤣... life is full of risks and its all about what ones your willing to take, the future of battery technology is expanding at a rapid rate with a multitude of companies competing against each other to produce a safe and reliable long lasting technology, once upon a time a plasma TV cost $30,0000 but now no one wants one because there's better for cheaper, all technology advances and in this day and age its advancing quickly, after 7 years (warranty period) solid state will be available in mass production and I will be able to prolong the life of a good vehicle at 1/3 of the cost of a new one (minus inflation) ... as for new technology with the vehicle what is being released at the moment ( digital screens, lighting, air con seats ect won't change to much, unless they can bring out a seat in a car that flies you to your work desk when you pull up in the car park 🤣 then not much will change over the next 10 to 15 years..(screen technology batteries and motor technology (hydrogen) is about the only things i can see that will change, on the flip side if batteries become lighter and let's say 37kw of nmc batteries weigh in at 300 kilograms then solid state will weigh 200kg for 3 times the distance, that's an extra 100kg payload you can now have in the vehicle as the existing Gvm will stay as produced in manufacturing after a battery swap...( it's hard to foresee the future of rules and regulations as they get made as we experience the things we make as human beings... even if the phev is an extra 10000, im cool with that as I have a long term investment idea that meets all criteria of a 15 year love hate relationship that we all have with our vehicles 🤣 thanks for your reply my good friend, hope to have a few more conversations with you on this topic 🍻
@thatdudethatsezshiz770611 ай бұрын
@ryantang8146 the extra weight from the extra batteries in a phev is about 300kg, I promise you they can't give you a 5 seater with a payload that accounts for 1 occupant.... the pay load and curb weight of the current models are all different the ultra hybrid can take a payload of 420kg which is 24kg more than a petrol only variant... if you where to purchase a phev variant, and look at the future of solid state batteries then in the near future after warranty period (7 years) you will have an extra 100kg payload than offered from manufacturer ( solid state offer lighter batteries) with approximately 3 times the distance.... and 2 to 3 times the life expectancy of current battery technology (nmc) lifepo4 is already 3 times the life cycles of an nmc but nmc hold more density of energy than lifepo4... Add a gvm upgrade to the extra 100kg less battery after swap out to solid state and you now have a vehicle that can take about 700kg payload (approximately).... im sure a suspension upgrade for a vehicle that weighs about 300kg more than the current petrol version is on the cards as it won't pass regulations with out it...

The hybrid for the Tank doesnt make much sense unless you want a ridiculous amount of power and torque, but in a hybrid car, if thats youre intended use case, youre defeating the purpose. Then there is the issue of added cost, based on Mr. Campbell's numbers saving fuel is going to be a challenge in the vehicle(which again, a 4x4 offroad hybrid vehicle that prioritizes fuel savings is a misnomer), hence recouping the cost for the hybrid vs the straight petrol version is going to go longer than your loan term.

It’s still a good vehicle. But you’ll see my thoughts on the hybrid specifically very soon.

Complaining about the brake pedal? This has been tested and reviewed by others, when you jam on the brakes the rear wheels jump and leave the road leaving 2 wheels in contact🤦♂️ you get what you pay for in life, a Chinese copy with no reputation of making anything quality for a long period of time. Choice is yours.

scary part is, the second hand pajeros are still better than those😂

Ha! I know for sure I’d prefer a secondhand Paj over this hybrid one.

My neighbour has one of these, 9 months old and the paint is fading, it looks cheap and it’s not ageing well, the rear door handle on the trunk also played up and then broke off. I wouldn’t personally buy this.

hilarious how you make a car geopolitical? In addition Good! time to muscle up against the Anglo divide and conquer war machine for the past few hundred years, if your smart see how empty your house gets without China, better yet find alternatives for bulk of what you own 😅

A war machine? How many wars and genocides have Australia, US and UK been involved in compared with China? not including the genocide that's occurring right now?
@Juan_theCook11 ай бұрын
China has had wars and genocide way more than Au uk and usa combined. They are older than Rome, Probably this time they might win and become the modern day Roman Empire. Who knows..?! but I'd rather not think about it as I am here to watch Matt's car reviews

@@Juan_theCook China did not start any war in the past 150 years. They did well kill themselves in the civil war and the Great Culture Revolution in recent memories. Get the facts right.
