Hey Everyone, many of you mentioned that you can also link a Bus Channel to a Folder Track. This is of course 100% correct and I've added an info card at the top right linking to another video where I've covered this. This video here was meant more as a "philosophical" introduction to the whole concept, explaining why we went with a different approach than most other DAWs to begin with.

ABSOLUTELY ! This is the best way. Cause as soon as you get like 100 tracks to mix , having a lot of bus tracks in the arrangement view can quickly become annoying.
@raydawgggtrismegistus2 жыл бұрын
While this is an old video, this feature isn't the separation I was looking for. As you stated, in a traditional studio, the DAW is separate from the channel strips on the mixing console. Yet all DAWs sync the editor & mix view track positions, which is inaccurate. In a traditional studio, you can send a track signal to whichever channel strip you like, regardless of it's track position in the DAW. For example, If my guitar is the first track in my DAW, I can send the signal to channel strip 5 or 12 on the console , and it stays the first track in my DAW. It doesn't move up or down to another track position. With DAWs, when you move the guitar track position up or down, in the edit view, it moves it's position up or down on the mixer as well. I don't want them synced. I would like the ability to arrange my mixer channel strip positions, independently from my track/edit view positions, like they are in a traditional studio. Is there is a way to do this in Studio One? In the Studio you don't "create" channel strips with tracks. Your console all ready has a predetermined number of channel strips, and you decide where you're going to route signal..
@sarahtonin46493 жыл бұрын
One of the reasons I switched to Studio One. It's also more analogous to a traditional recording studio, where the tracks are on the tape machine, and the channels are on the mixer.

Of course Studio 1 allows for this too via folders and I can still have a nice tidy view of it without cluttering my main arrangement when I don’t work on it. I’ve looking for something like this for ages. Finally a DAW that gets this right 😊

Also when using a multiple instrument track (multiple instruments layered on one track), you will get mixer channels for the individual instruments, but also one for the layered instrument. Furthermore I want to add that in the mixer overview you can also hide channels if you want. I love this feature, because the artist in me has overview in the arrangement with no clutter, and the engineer part of me can go wild afterwards when mixing.

That IS an interesting concept: separate controls for each individual drum from the track/kit. However, I use Notion to write my drum parts (: just as I use Notion to write everything else! :), then, I EQ and compress kick, snare, and cymbals (mostly hi hat) to my preferences after sending audio to Studio One 6 (and 5, as 5 will still ReWire to Notion which I love for practice). I'm kinda sorta "old school", I guess... been reading notation for 63 years, don't like electronica, prefer a '60s sounding kit, yada yada.... But, between Gregor and Joe Gilder, I'm in "instructional video heaven"! Keep up the good work guys; with a cataract in my "stronger" reading eye (other one's fuzzy), I'm increasingly watching videos and decreasingly reading manuals in *.pdf on a 32" monitor (no room for the 40" in the present setup and the Apple (intel) Mac gets too warm running three video streams along with dozens of DAW tracks and channels. @@presonus One reason would be to change the volume of a bus/vca/fx/aux without having to open the mixer. It is of course another story when you got a Hardware controller, where you might (only) show those tracks. But even without the controller: I'd still prefer creating bus/vca/fx automation tracks automatically (which does not work for aux channels btw!) , then I at least know that there are no unexpected (but according to the settings logically correct) channel order changes as many people observed them in the past if not done so.

I get this. It's sensible. What is NOT sensible however, is that Studio One, as well as many other DAWS, make midi tracks using exterior synths/workstations so complicated? In the "old" days, you could create a midi track and AUTOMATICALLY a mixer channel would appear. The faders were almost the same as for an audio channel except the fader commanded MIDI Volume and a host of other useful commands. There was no need to "mix down", or render, or "bounce". The midi track would reside along the other mixer channels and broadly behave in the same way. But now, everyone has to create AUX channels, or render, or bounce, or mix down. THIS SHOULD NOT BE NECESSARY. In this regard DAWS have gone backwards, not forwards. Why has this happened. Midi data is perfectly capable of using a fader or mix channel to change midi volume, expression, panning, after touch and a host of other useful controls. You should not have to render down to audio to get mix controls. It is a backward step.
@methodofkolishin3 жыл бұрын
Hmm I might be missing something here, and I apologize if so- but it sounds like what you're looking for is the instrument track. (these tracks do midi and audio at the same time, so you can process VST's without needing to bounce if you don't want to- or have the system resources to not need to.) Additively, IDK if this is possibly adding to the confusion (because this still confuses me in S1) but when creating an instrument track- if you were to delete the channel, it goes away while still leaving the instrument itself loaded in the "instrument" panel of the mixer. Instead you MUST select "delete channel and instrument" when removing un-needed instrument tracks. This is where a 1:1 philosophy makes things less confusing IMO :D

I always use folders and add a buss on the folder, its way cleaner

I do this too, but after watching this video, I might re-think that approach. I think I would prefer to keep my tracks and channel views separate.

I've been doing it this way since Studio one 3 ..It is a more intuitive way of mixing and making music

So… why wouldn’t you just hide the bus track while you don’t need it? I don’t understand why this is a big deal. Love the program though! When you start supporting surround sound, preferably with Dolby Atmos support, I’ll be able to use it for more professional work!

This is yet another reason I am glad I am a solo guitar player. Life (and mixing) is so much more simple that way. 😅 😂 🤣

This is actually one of the things that sold Studio One for me.

the only thing that really piss me off, its the unlinked solo-mute between mixer and arrangement
