This video is devastating. Makes me cry every time! Even the edited video was only shown after midnight on MTV back in the day. The role of the stripper is portrayed by Ginger Lynn, a former porn star. Their album Garage Inc. is an album of covers by them. They also do a killer cover of Whiskey In The Jar by Thin Lizzy.

I'll never forget MTV2 playing this video, _uncensored_ , around '98. They had a "Most Controversial Videos" special on regular MTV and then followed it up with a block of the videos uncut on MTV2. You saw Ginger Lynn's p* spread eagle, you saw the h* injection in Prodigy "Smack My B* Up", you saw everything! I still have a VHS of it.

@@mage1439 Ginger has stated that in the late 90s, she took a break from Porn to raise her son, but in 2002, reentered the Business and starred in More Adult Videos. She FINALLY retired in 2004. She says "The Metallica Music Video was for me to show off my Acting Chops". Ginger like at the end of the music video says she's proud of all the Adult Film work she's done and would do it all over again if she were to go back to 80s.

This Metallica version got the original song closer to the newer generations. They decided to record it because they felt very close to the story Bob Seger tells in his lyrics, as they felt it could have easily been a song telling the Metallica story on the endless road, playing rock shows almost every night around the world. Thanks for doing this one, guys!!

A BRILLIANT decision by them to hire Former 80s Porn Starlett Ginger Lynn to play the lead in the Music Video. Ginger(35 at the time) wanted to show off her Acting Chops.

The actress / woman being featured in this video was a popular porn star from the 1980's named Ginger Lynn. I think they purposely chose her for the video as a sort of social commentary on how the industry commoditizes women and then discards them as they age. It's a devil's bargain - money and fame for selling your soul. She does a good job of playing a troubled and pained woman in the video because i suspect in real life - she lived this type of tough a life. Thanks for your reaction - i always enjoy them.

Worked at a strip club off and on for a decade doing everything from bartending to dancing and when I was waitressing the club used to have porn stars come and do features. That was when things were changing drastically and fast because of free content online (2008-2009). You could tell a lot had seen better days and they were constantly on the road doing features for $2000-$4000 plus tips. One (forget the name) had literally just had a baby 3 weeks before. Horrible that she even had to be in that situation to begin with.

This is not only a great cover, but it always hits me a little more emotionally because it reminds me how the Original bass player and band leader Cliff Burton died in a tour bus accident while they were supporting Ozzy in Europe. Cliff was so amazing and also eerie is that he and Randy Rhodes were both really into musical theory and different things they could do musically and both died way too young. One of those wow, what turn would music have taken if they were both alive today. Throw in Andy Wood from Mother Love Bone into that scenario. He is alive today and the Love Rock of Mother Love Bone never turns into the darker brooding Pearl Jam as they had to deal with the pain of losing Andy one of the true rock stars that flamed out before the world really knew him. Do Bob Seager Still the same and Mother Love Bone's Chloe Dancer Crown of Thorns (use the video where they mixed eddie and andy singing lead)

This song always brings me back to the 80s. Working nights at a 24 hour pancake house. We were a favorite spot of alot of touring bands. Think Denny's w/o the crowd. Some bands used to take half the restaurant, so they wouldn't get hassled by other customers for the way they looked. They always came in looking dog ass tired, which always reminded me of this song. And they never failed to do a complete 180 after hours of drinking gallons of coffee, smoking packs of cigarettes, and eating breakfast food covered in maple syrup. Dam I miss the 80s.

Great reaction guys! This made my Friday morning. I've always loved Bob Seger's version...it's the original & best, but Metallica did it complete justice with this cover! They made it their own (AND the video - taking the words and applying it to a lady of the night instead of a traveling musician was brilliant - perfectly shows the parallels of those lives!) The Garage Inc. album had some incredible covers! HIGHLY suggest Astronomy (a Blue Oyster Cult track), Whiskey In The Jar (traditional Irish folk song, but Metallica's version is done like Thin Lizzy's), Sabbra Cadabra (Black Sabbath cover - mixed with A National Acrobat song - both from the same album). Metallica's covers are just awesome! Cheers.

Garage Inc is quite a collection of covers, from Bob Seger to Queen, Thin Lizzy to Motörhead, plus all the NWBHM and punk bands that shaped Metallica’s style… this is helluva track, one of the standouts. It’s undeniably still Seger’s words and structure, but it’s also unmistakably Metallica in the way it sounds and the spin Hetfield puts on the vocals. Love it.

A great example of the importance of framing. Differences of framing are usually accomplished using different words, but in this case it's done using visuals, and differences of intonation, vocal timbre and voice coloration. My favorite example of a different way to frame the same thing (just using different words): Is it a burnt piece of dead cow, covered with fungus? Or is it a well-done steak, smothered in mushrooms?
