@@FiremanUpDiscGolfChief, 20 years on the job in Florida and 20 years of Ultimate Frisbee, about 4 years of Frolf. Awesome that you found the sport and thanks for sharing. I give lessons and there is many different avenues you can take to get where you want to go with your form/technique. I love alternative methods like this. A lot of people can't grasp an x-step right away. I believe their goal should be to ultimately get there but this is a great stepping stone. It's even a great alternative for some who just won't ever figure out the x-step. Throwing putters is the other great thing you mentioned. They are the #1 teaching tool! Anyone can throw a putter and they give you instant feed back if on how you throw them. So many get hung up on distance drivers. You dial in throwing your putters perfectly at whatever your full power is and that will 100% apply to throwing all speeds. Master throwing putters on hyzer/flat/an hyzer with proper nose angle(nose down) and it vastly improve anyone's game. Only critique I have for you is your throws are still a little nose up. Keep working on that. Nose up robs distance. Pete Ulabari has some good videos on nose up/nose down mechanics. Similar to what you've shown here, there is not one exact way for everyone to achieve a consistent nose down release. Varies a good bit. Keep it up Chief!

It's great to see another OG loving this game!!! (57 yo here) I've been razzed many times by the "kids" at league about the fact that I only take 2 steps. Yet, I consistently hit 300-330'+. My 2-step is slightly different from yours. Basically, mine is the last 2 steps of the x-step. I start like a standstill, as I reach back, my left leg goes behind the right like the typical x-step, and finish with the right leg extension and foot plant. The razzing comes from me dragging my left toe as I go through this, but it greatly slows me down and lets me maintain control. Otherwise, I go too fast and try to muscle it like you mentioned in your vid. I'm glad you found what works great for you! I tell everyone my 2-step works for me and the results speak for themselves. Have fun on the course!!!!
@FiremanUpDiscGolf4 ай бұрын
I like the thought of the last 2 steps of the x-step. Might have to throw that in on a practice round. I get razzed a lot too but funny they don't mind being my doubles partner...lol. And of course no razzing when I won the 2 CTP holes. Keep up the great work!
@taylormeyers87803 ай бұрын
awesome for you that youre hitting 300! A tip tho, you're going to have a hard time going further if you dont focus on your reach back and follow through, youre throwing frisbee style, not disc style. You're barely reaching back, and youre coiled and flared when you do. Then you round your throw and don't extend your arm on your follow through. Relax your arm, reach back flat and straight, then focus 100% on twisting your hips, forget your arm exists, just let it follow the hip twist. My personal saying when i step up to the t-box is: "Lead with your hips, arms are whips"
@FiremanUpDiscGolf3 ай бұрын
I will have to try that. Just got a net this week to work on it since football started back and I can't get on the field. I will have to remember the Lead with hips , arms are whips. Thanks for the input and jumping in on the journey.

Great video. I had to go get a “coach” to help me a bit with my throw. He said don’t “reach back”. Hold your disc out in front of u where you want to release disc. Then as u do your walk up just turn your hips. The disc will automatically be in the “reach back” position.

Turns out, I lost my form and completely lost my grip that I had figured out years ago. Finally sat down, watched some of the driving clinics I had watched YEARS ago... went back out today... crushed a 400... all I did was change my grip. Proud of you fella! I started 1.5 yrs ago at age 41. Played(hacker) ball golf nearly 30 years. As a kid, played baseball 10 years, sidearmed in baseball and neighborhood rock skipping champion. FH was just pumping the tires up on the bike and riding, the backhand was basically like learning to walk again. I hit 300’ on my 57th day. I didn’t hit 300 the next day or week, but a few weeks I got bh to 300 again. Then just poured a lot of time into it. Thinking back on it, it amazed me how many people confused a X “STEP” and “RUN UP”. I’ve never ran anywhere and thrown a disc. I started pacing my steps like walking and checking the mailbox. Slow, short steps. I think once you develop and grasp timing, then you can speed up. What really helped me, I bought net two months before a basket. I have it inside my house. I throw 100% power into as well. Having a net/or create a barrier you can throw into at home, advances your game so much, especially footwork and timing, and it will help you gain that unfair advantage over your buddies, at least!

Nice work man! I think it's really important to work out what works for us individually, and good on you for sharing that! The X-step in a true format adds so many extra elements as a new player, that it actually made me struggle to enjoy the game, as I found it really hard to put all the elements and timing together successfully regularly! While after 18 months, I use it for mid/long hole drives (anything over 330ft/100m), I usually use a stand-still throw - I've found it so much more consistent and accurate! Being able to concentrate on the core elements the majority of the round has been really beneficial for results and how much I've enjoyed the game. Hope everyone finds what works for them! You are not far from 300', I think the Texas Two-Step would be a good route to try if you were doing like I was and overthrowing on the x-step. That is the reason I was pushing for 300' because a lot of the courses I played on that seemed to be the sweet spot to getting birdie. Let me know how it goes.

I'd suggest to slow down the X step and use it more of mometum and not power. I stutter step and then do a slow X step into my power pocket and then I EXPLODE. max distance so far is 420ft , started in Jan. Ppl say I can probably hit 500 and I'm using a really slow X step to power pocket and explosion.

Your process is essential for us older players (57 here). We do not have the mobility or flexibility, speed or power, so we do need to adapt. Every good coach will show you the principles; the mechanics of the motion are unique to the player. Principles include throwing plane, nose angle, extension, planting, and follow through. I have guys in my league that can throw 350' from a stand still. The stepping does not necessarily increase that distance; his distance is as impressive as his accuracy. Figure out what works for you. Another take away is that you cannot learn this while on the course. Field work makes a difference if you are patient enough, and if you can self-diagnosis. If you cannot, then find a partner to help you assess.
@FiremanUpDiscGolf3 ай бұрын
Very well said on mechanics of the motion being unique to each player and doing field work. I learn so much from my disc while I am doing field work. I like using a net when I am narrowing down to a certain mechanic but I love field work. for the reason most hate it, it allows you to take a break after so many throws because you have to go and pick up the disc. @FiremanUpDiscGolf4 ай бұрын
I am new to this but I will try to explain…When you join your local Disc Golf Club/League they usually offer a number tag that is included in your membership. Then they schedule club/league tournaments for the members that they call tag tournaments. Before the tournament, everyone turns in the tag they have. Once the tournament is over they reissue the tags based off how you finished in the tournament. The lower the number the better you played. Keep in mind it also depends on who is playing and what numbers might be available for that tournament. I actually played better in a tournament than I did when I got 19 and fell back to 24. Hope that helps. I encourage you to meet up with your local League/Club I have had a lot of fun and learned way more than I would have learned myself. Looking at getting a net soon to work on power pocket so I might need to record a bit of that. Thanks for stopping by and taking the time to make a suggestion.

I went from 250’ to 400’ in a month after I quit worrying about xstep and run up

This is excellent advice to try on upshot’s and it’ll naturally transfer over to the tee box

@@adamp462 That’s awesome. Good to keep it basic. What is funny is how many times we are told that when we are beginners but yet we get so excited and want to be good fast. Thanks for joining in on the journey.

I thought everyone who talks about distance is how far you can throw your putter. Distance from putter to fairway to distance driver are not that far apart from one another. Sometimes I throw my fairways father then my distance drivers.

I totally agree…My mid-ranges almost equal my fairway and distance drivers. Thanks for stopping in.

Great video. You’re paying too much in school taxes.

LOL….I totally agree. Due to football in Texas most school taxes are higher monthly than the actual house payment, sometimes double. Thanks for stopping by and taking the time to comment.

You have a serious problem with sound. Strong interference/hissing sound. I've never seen a video from you before, so I don't know if this is your usual. But if you want your channel to grow, fix that.

@@Timberius Thanks for the input. I have been researching and working on a solution. I have a few things to try to go after the problem instead of masking it in post production.

I had to lol when I read this. I didn't notice the sound issue as I was watching on my phone, but my wife, sitting 10 ft away, did notice.

Wish I had seen this a few hours ago before I went out and played this morning. I turn 68 tomorrow and struggle to throw over 200 ft. I had rotator cuff surgery about 8 years ago, but ruined it about 5 years later. No pain when I throw, but is that what limits my distance? I may go back out to our local middle school football field and give this a try. Thanks!!
