I have raised rabbits for meat off and on for over 30 years. Like many, I felt bad that the rabbits were so confined, so I built a large open pen where they could intermingle as they chose. It was a failed experiment. The males fought. The birds of prey took many, and the tunnels full of their offspring attracted snakes. Rattlesnakes. Life is brutal. Nothing dies of old age in the wild. It either dies of predation or starvation. The cage may not be so bad.

Keeping rabbits as a housepet is a modern thing. Chickens can also be trained, and will sit there with you. They can live about 9 years. They have similar personalities to rabbits as well. They have been a meat source since they were domesticated, it is why they have been bred and kept for 2,000+ years. There is actually a lot of meat on a rabbit, one of these can feed a family easily. You can get 2-3 lbs of meat, and it's very lean, meaning it's more filling than other meats. One rabbit can feed two adults for a couple days.

Ya'll can go on about whatever you want, but this cage design needs a serious shoutout. Most every hutch design Ive ever seen is wood based and is almost always disgustingly dirty. The ease in which they cleaned and sterilized there at the end is extremely impressive.

Rabbit bred like this are nowhere near as tasty and nice as wild rabbit, it's the difference between chalk and cheese. Wild rabbit treated correctly and cooked properly is one of my most favourite meats, along with venison and pheasant, (not hung too long though). I will not eat Foie Gras or Veal as I abhor the way they are produced.

@@imagay568 I didnt think they meant that at all. Seeing that the commenter is a rabbit owner, I understand how that feels since it is technically considered livestock in most areas in the world. I am not against eating rabbits and I have eaten rabbit dishes or so before but the truth about the method they use that they claim the rabbits they slaughter are ‘free ranged’ or out of the cage is literally the first part of this video. They don’t let these rabbits out at all, and they just mass produce a good amount of it for food or testing. This goes for a lot of animal farms as well. It is an unavoidable fact that we have at least eaten animals that came from these types of factories. Besides the point, you saying this is very insensitive. I personally do not hope that you own a pet species that is being used for animal testing or livestock that you have to feel the same emotions as this person. Wish you the best. x

Y'know, we humans don't look much different than the rabbits once we're hung up and skinned and eviscerated like them.. Well believe it or not they actually have a longer life in the farms then in nature. There is a reason rabbits have multiple litters every year. It's because only 1 out of every 10 rabbits makes it past 3 months old

Actually these rabbits would've have even existed at all if it weren't for the breeding done at the farm. So the farm gives millions of rabbits the chance to have a life. While it's short, at least they don't have to fend for food, deal with weather and run from predators.
