An alternative to prison is needed. Community service is a much better option. A last resort should be a detention dormitory (which is what I would rather call Norway’s prison system since it’s not much of a prison). Keeping humans in cages like circus animals (especially in compulsory uniforms) is immoral. #abolishprisons

Please understand he's a mathematician with a focus on history and linguistics. Just read Bertrand Russell who is still to me a mind fuck. He'll bring u up to the 20th century because he was the eminent scholar. Chomsky is his successor. Their minds are historicaly and mathematicaly entrenched in antiquity and at the same time, they're spilling the beans on modern mass-media control, which is why both Noam & Bertrand were treated in the US as an aside historically. I.E., Bertrand's book were initially banned in the US...

People need education opportunities, hope and decent jobs. Prisons are secondary and ought not be for profit. Big mistake. But I don't have an overly optimistic view of human nature, though it is definitely malleable toward the better. But prisons aren't going away.

We should never say "we." "We" don't cause these miseries, a small minority of leaders do. Call them "Them," "The Government," or "The Americans," anything but "We." They need to be treated the way they treat the rest of us i.e. they need to be marginalized, treated with contempt, and defanged.

Prisons are a symptom and a component of a complex. Technically, a needle is “needed” to main line heroin. But if you don’t consume the drug, the needle is no longer needed. The vast majority of crime can be attributed to the effects of poverty, untreated mental health issues, drug abuse and so on. And the thesis is that there is no simple replacement for the prison system unless these causal issues are addressed in a fundamental way. There are many arguments about how or if that can be done.
