The Year is 2084. T-Series has officially surpassed 5 billion subscribers. Our lord and saviour, Killer Keemstar, is celebrating his fast-as-fuck 102nd birthday. Ryan continues to review childrens toys as he enters retirement age. Mister Beast's son, Master Beast, has officially became the most subscribed individual on the platform. GradeAUnderA has returned successfully after his 27th haitus; we will expect the 28th by the end of the month. KZbinrs the world over rejoice as Waluigi has finally been revealled as the 261st DLC character for Super Smash Bros Conquest, the 22nd installment of the Smash series. And just as KZbin couldn't get any better, from the ashes of the cum chalice, YandereDev comes back from the dead to release the final version of Yandere Simulator, free of any bugs or glitches, and chock full of content - officially dethroning Tony Hawk: Pro Skater 12, GTA XV and Super Mario Galaxy 6 as game of the century. The way I see it, Yandere Simulator should've just stayed as a free, fun little sandbox game on the internet. The VERY moment Alex decided to monetize the game and tried to make it an actual game for sale, the game and popularity just...stagnated. Almost no one plays the game on KZbin anymore, YanSim looks incredibly boring to play, and Alex's reputation as a game developer dug past rock bottom a long time ago.
@treadingwater863 жыл бұрын
I agree. I think that the freedom was what drove many people to the game to begin with along with the quirky premise, kind of like Goat Simulator. But unlike Coffee Stain, who understood this and continued to develop their game around this sense of freedom with glitches included, YandereDev's ambitions got way over his head thanks to the publicity it got early on in its development. It should have never been put out to the public in the state it was. That's not even mentioning that the game is clearly a vehicle of YandereDev's fetishes, which is rather insidious considering that he has an audience of mostly minors...

The most hilarious thing about YanSim is that, of 3 months ago, the game still does not have a functional save option. Sure, there is a Save in the options, but it doesn't work. If you save and reload, it will take you back to the time and place, but now you've missed out on all conversations, and characters will start veering off programmed course because, to them, nothing was reloaded, they just keep going about their day as normal. So, you still have to restart the entire day. That was the first, and last, time I had played in over 5 years. When a game still does not have the one simple function that every single game needs to be playable... It's pretty easy to figure out that the dev of that game is absolute garbage. Yet YanDev screamed almost on a daily basis how amazing he was at video game making, how masterful he was, how perfect. Right. So perfect you can't even make a Save file. Hilarious

I think one thing that really gets me about the game is that I just don’t know what it’s going for. Is it an anime parody? You’d think so, considering all of the characters are anime tropes and the whole premise is a background character in a Dating Sim going nuts and killing people. But it’s not that funny, the characters take the situations as seriously as any other anime plot, and there’s not many moments where the game doesn’t just play the tropes straight rather than using them to be clever. YanDev hates the Tsundere archetype, but there’s never any real commentary that highlights problems or pokes fun at them; Osana is written exactly like a shitty Tsundere character from any low budget anime. If it’s a parody, it’s almost completely indistinguishable from what it’s mocking. Is it an animesque horror game, sort of like DDLC? Well, all of the Easter eggs, lack of investment in the characters (because they’re all one-note cliches) and random BS like panty shots sort of take me out of that. It’s not really scary, it’s just gory and edgy. Really, it just feels half baked. I think it’s also outdated; the tropes YanSim include are from 2012, and, while it’s not super noticeable, anime, like any genre, evolves, and the cliches evolve too. I’d argue that the fluffy slice of life style YanSim is going for hasn’t been super popular in recent years, having been usurped by the Isekai genre.

Yeah, I couldnt have said it better. It's just super stale. Plus this particular execution of the yandere trope is just a distillation of, like, the same negative depictions of mental illness and women that have been on TV for the past 50 years. Having a nondescript mental illnesses or disabilitity that affects your ability to socialize or relate to others makes you dangerous/inhuman. "Being in love" cures mental illness. Being in a relationship is a perfect substitute for having a rich inner life, and the most noble thing a girl can do is become Someone's Girlfriend. Other women are just competition for Boy You Like and should never be treated as anything other than obstacles in the way of getting what you want. Like, even the ableism and sexism baked into the premise of this game's world is old and tired. If I wanted to see all of this in one place I'd watch some shitty comedy or police procedural lol.
@stuglife55143 жыл бұрын
@@SeymourDisapproves I would argue that the whole mental health thing and getting into a relationship will solve that isn’t just a thing directed at girls. It’s the same thing with men. The parts I find sexist is the sexualization of the female characters and the “personalities” they have being stereotypes. But hey to each their own.

Most of his fandom are children, or impressionable teenagers. The explanation for the students that I've seen is: All of the students are running the same script (which holds the behavior for each student and also includes time checks to change their behavior). This script uses a series of if then statements meaning that the program has to go down the list checking to see if the npc ID in the code matches the npc ID of the character model it is attached to and then it can perform the actions that the npc should be doing at that moment in time. Every student is running this same script and making checks every single frame. I think I learned this in Spoctor's video. I am a computer science student and I find game coding analysis videos super interesting.

I studied game dev in university. To be fair, games can take a long time to make especially if you are doing everything by yourself. Some game projects I worked on took a couple of weeks just for five minutes- 8 minutes of gameplay. But I had to make all my assets, program, and write these projects. I know there a lot of solo devs who were able to make large games in short amount of time, but it does have long-term impact. I know a lot of indie devs have reported burnout fron neglecting their social and mental health to work on their games and release it quickly. So I think it is good for solo devs to pace themselves. However the Yandere Dev needs to be honest, about his personal ability and amount of time he has to develop games. He can't blame it on scope. The time to develop a project is based on the size of the team and the time allotted to the projects. Don't claim other devs are working on smaller projects which is why they can release games quicker. I guarantee most devs were secretly working on their games for months or years. This applies to any game developer, no matter the length of playtime. Most devs only release a demo to the public, let alone opened a Patreon when the core gameplay or the game is nearly finished. Its always sad to see folks who take advantage of their audience make money. I know so many indie devs would kill to have monetary support while they worked on their projects. Day jobs really limit your working time, when you still have to take care of yourself.

If Yanderedev wanted a game with complex characters that you have to kill, why not implement it like this, Whoever Senpai interacts with, Yan-chan immediately starts investigating, and talking to them. You’d find out their relationship with senpai and learn about them in the process. Then you can decide how you want to get rid of them(usually outside of school so you don’t have to worry about disposing of every little piece of evidence). You could even invite the person over and get rid of them that way, in a convenient accident of sorts. But of course, this would require Alex to put in some thought and effort, two things he lacks severely.

Since then I have: lost multiple family members, got traumatised, had a family breakdown, finished my GCSEs, got into a toxic relationship of 6 months, had my a-levels get cancelled due to the pandemic in 2020, went to university, did a foundation diploma, got a neurological disorder, got diagnosed with 8 different mental illnesses alongside autism and adhd, I am now 21 and I just finished my 2nd year of my degree, and it still isn't done. Whack.

@OnlyKarlos3 жыл бұрын
I'm gonna be honest, I first found out about the game way back when the big youtubers (Markiplier in my case) first covered it. There was a lot of potential so I was updated with new releases, bugfixes and what not. I watched a lot of drama unfold, specially the first few. And every time I just kept thinking "wtf YandereDev just let it slide and finish the game". Things just kept getting worse in that aspect until I had enough. Now I keep in touch with the game development through videos like this, and all I think of is the exact same. Accept criticism about the state of the game. Work on improving those aspects people talk so much about. Fucking stop adding more game breaking features and just polish/remake the code. This game's development history is constantly YandereDev being presented the game's problems in a very clear and easy to understand way and not doing shit about it. What the hell dude. If you don't care about feedback when it's negative then why bother. Feels like the man just wants the money and the praise, and anything that could hurt either is like a personal attack. It took 7 years for a demo to come out as a super buggy shit with the same problems people have been screaming about for years. Like you mentioned, there are no audio options in the DEMO, not to mention the game almost begging you to use a controller. And adding all other rivals at the same time was the icing of the cake to me, because I thought it was either a copy-paste of bugs that would snowball into chaos, or the man just showed he wasn't really trying so far. The real thing is just a joke. The dude so criticised on ignoring negative feedback and fucking banning people on a discord for dumb shit now wants our feedback. Like seriously I believe it would be more effective to scream at a statue for being lazy than sharing thoughts, opinions and feedback with Mr. Discord Ban Speedrun. My man had so many opportunities to have a second look at everything and think "maybe they have a point". Could have redeem whatever reputation he lost by ignoring drama/personal attacks and just working on the game quietly. If anything people would say "at least he's a good game developer" but they can only say the opposite now. For real, what a fucking shitshow this game and its development is. Excellent concept, horrible execution. Was super excited with Love Letter until he had to ruin it too. My disappointment IS immesurable and it's not even a reference to that meme. I fucking loved the game back then. I loved Love Letter. I loved the game concept. But it's all in the trash now because every attempt at making a good game so far only led me to be more and more frustrated. It's so fucking awful to watch something you loved and wanted to see grow become this bad. My only hope now is that YandereDev puts an end to this shit show of a game, whether by giving us a super crappy final release or just giving up on it alltogether. It's like the "stop, he's already dead" meme with Yandere Simulator being smashed to the ground with each update. I apologise for the long comment but this is just something I have to get out of my system because I was a genuine fan excited to see this concept grow and mature into an epic game, but all it did was become the laughing stock of KZbin and how NOT to make a game. I'm so, so disappointed.

your example of NES Zelda is even more spot on because, yes, in-game NES Zelda doesn't tell you _anything_ about how to play and only barely gives you context for who you are and what you're doing if you bother sitting at the title screen long enough. *_BUT_* it came with a manual. if yandev wasn't going to include tutorials or a basic rundown of the game's story, the literal least he could do is include a .txt file with the game that says, "you're in love with senpai and will do anything necessary to get his attention and eliminate the competition. press x key to move, y key to interact with characters and items."

i mean.. thats kinda what it is.. BUT to (and i CANT believe i say this) yandevs Defence.. its not a "him doing weird shit" thing.. its a somewhat common thing in visual novels and similiar games as a disclaimer at the start I think my favorit "bullshit" moment with that was in one of the Date a Live visuel novels(they are based on a Light novel series) where it litteraly said "all characters depicted are 18 years of age or above"(slighly paraphrased) When that is so much bullshit its not even funny.... like.... sure.. MOST characters could be said to be 18 years or older chronoligicaly do to plot shenanigans even if their physical, nor mental age/behaviour do not agree with that.. But there are at least 2 characters that, even with plot shenanigans, are claerly stated to be younger then that
@LamisonJamison2 жыл бұрын
@@weberman173 its purley the fact it doesn't make sense even with Alexs "higher learning" excuse. Taro Yamada is 18 in class 3, the highest class. Of anybody has been to school you'll know classes 2 and 1 will be a year below him. You can say some of class 2 could be 18 but it won't be all and none of class 1 is above 17. That's just how schooling works even with the higher learning excuse. So no. Not all characters are 18+, not even in universe.

@@LamisonJamison once agian, that ISNT exclusive to him.... of all the things he is doing wrong, that sentence isnt uncommon or "bad" Thats why this is one fo the few things i cant hold against it. once again my example i gave in my previous post about that visuel novel There is a cast of.. i think around 10 main characters(a while since i played it and remember which characters from the source where in the specific VN). Of those 10, you can make a "case" for 7 of them to be over 18 in SOME sort of way(even if not physicaly, or mentally, at least theoreticaly in terms of "chronological age(with one exception where the whole concept just goes so buckwild its not even worth discussing)) so 3 arent(thats a number i am 100% confident in, even if it was 12 actual characters) 1 of the remaining is "weird" and age is kinda hard to define with her do to plot shenanigans that throw a LOT of monkey wrenches into the mix. the other 2 are 100% under 18 in universe in every single possible definition, biologicaly, physicaly, mentally, or chronologicaly. Tl:Dr having a disclaimer or otherwise somethign that states "all characters depicted in this media are 18 years of age or older" even if they are, in universe and setting, clearly not that old, isnt a YanDev thing, its weird, hilarous, and absolutly funny(outside of the instances when its abhorent), BUT not a yandev thing but just a relativly common disclaimer.. why? no idea, probably just a weak legal thing for plausible deniability? but it is

@@weberman173 so because the trope of ambiguously aged doing lewd things is common then nobody should have an issue with it. @@LamisonJamison i never said it is right or wrong. I meerly pointed out that this is one of the few things i cant fault yandev himself directly on. This isnt him makign excuses for his bad coding, delaying giving actual dates on when something is coming, or outright lying about something.... This is him following a(granted not universally used) convention in part of the industrie. Its like falting someone for using the Disclaimer "This is a work of fiction. Names, characters, business, events and incidents are the products of the author's imagination. Any resemblance to actual persons, living or dead, or actual events is purely coincidental" on a Story that is based on something that happend in the past, be it alt history fiction. or similiar, and trust me that happens a lot and i DO have a good chuckle over it when i see it, but i dont fault the author/publisher for using it. because its a convention and also in this case actualy a legal safety net

I remember, some time ago, coming across YS. I thought the idea was cool, I was impressed by how frequently the dev posted updates and talked about what he was planning and doing, and the demo at the time showed promise. It wasn't revolutionary, but it seemed a good start. Years passed, and the game is clearly a mess. A couple good programmers could finish it in a year. It desperately needs better better writing. in regards to the NPCs code, for those who don't want to watch other videos about it, basically every NPC is running their own code, but the code itself is also filled with unnecessary filler that isn't needed or can be written to operate the same way with a much smaller amount of code. basically the code goes "do thing 1 if y happens, don't do thing 1 if x happens, if x happens then do thing 2, if neither thing x or thing y happens do thing 3 etc etc etc" when you can simplify it to "when thing (_/_) happens, do thing (_/_), if thing (_/_) doesn't happen do (_/_/_/_/) etc" for the original code each single character's code has to constantly go through these checks and balances EVERY SINGLE TIME ANYTHING HAPPENS, which is constantly whereas with the simplified code, all those checks happens in a single section and are finished basically immediately

Reasons to HATE yansim: 1-Bastardized the yandere troope; Ayano is not a yandere (cute girl wh gets insane cuz love), technically not even a mere yangire (aside from snap mode), she's a faux kuudere with violence streak and good at hiding it (and at manipulation). Yet she became THe FACE of it more than Kaede, Shion or Yuno! 2-way to many cringy old, deadbeat animay tropes, and they are played straight instead of minimally twisted or discussed; like your average romcom, but with MUUUUURD3RRRR galore, in a 3D game. DATED. 3-Author has big ego and plays the blame game when people try to set him into the right place; also has some fetishes he just cant keep to just himself, this is more problematic than it look, cuz factor 4. 4-Fanbase is mostly made of impressionable children who cult worship the guy, get very passive-agressive when are talked back. Also, no minors should be playing THAT. Even he knows that. 5-lowkey ruined unity store assets...if someone ever tries to make a game with, for example, the Aoi model, the kiddos of YS will surely swarm into the coments section/social media of the dude with hurr durr, this is copying yanderedev setting, dont you have any shaaaameee...even if they are to be used by anyone who PAID for the damn assets.

@@fushiguromegumi6863 at this point, the only three explanations are that A) Alex is scamming people into paying for s game that he will probably one day cancel abruptly, 2) he's a complete dickhead or 3) he's got the worst procrastination of all time. Given his behaviour though, I'd say he's a dickhead regardless of the reason for this. Being a one man developer is one thing but he lost that excuse when Tiny Build stepped in but ultimately left the project when he threw a hissy fit over them changing the code. I remind you that Undertale was a one man gig as well and took only about one year to make from Kickstarter completion to its launch on Steam. Undertale also has a spiritual successor in Deltarune (granted, that game's deep in production hell) and is almost universally beloved. That game was made on only $51,000 via Kickstarter but Alex has a Patreon and KZbin channel which at one point made him 500 grand so what's his excuse? Undertale has three possible endings with two drastically different playstyles; Yandere Simulator is barely even considerable as being a game. Complete clusterfuck.
