Actually, about the Unity License for assets in the asset store. If he's not straight up just reselling the assets, or giving them away on patreon, he is allowed to profit from the game. That line about what you will not do with the asset is refering to the asset itself, not the whole game. Why would unity require a special license to use something commercially that you already paid for, in a store made for game developers with stuff to use in their game? It's an understandable misunderstanding of the text though. HOWEVER, If he is giving away the models, free or otherwise, that is a BIG nono, you're allowed to use assets you purchased on the store, but you cannot re-distribute them at all! source: been a unity dev for about 5 years now, also volunteered for YandereCUNT some years ago.

I feel like another good indie dev comparison instead of toby fox is Dean Dodrill/The Dust an Elysian Tail developer. He was a self taught illustrator and animator, he made most of the game himself, learnt to program to make the game, the game took 4 years to make and the game is both beautiful and really good. I really think he should have put more effort into realism. Like all the weapons in the game are only can come from ayano’s own home because why would a school have so many weapons?.! Any school would never let that be so along with ayano skipping class all the time, ayano killing characters so easily like in a couple stabs with people in the distance, and the game should have more context and story and relationships like info-Chan. More logic and realism would make the game have higher stakes! I am not asking for this game to be the best thing since sliced bread, but please be prepared with heart. Maybe…. Ayano can be a character who can be empathetic, but cruel. Of course, she is crazy, but having the audience see her as a human is better for the enjoyment sake. Like there should be an empathy meter, where the more she observes people around senpai, she starts seeing them as human. It gives risk in stalking and actions in the game. You can see ayano struggle to see which path is best for senpai. Does she kill those who mean something to him or does she kill a few or try to win his heart??.? There is suspense and a choice for the player instead of forcing so many murder methods. I want a lot of people to see this so imma continue…. I think ayano should be what she seems to be…a neglected child by a workaholic father and a neglectful narcissistic mother. The mom rubbed off onto ayano and that is why she is such a psycho that only thinks about herself. Maybe in the game, we watch her see info-Chan as a human and maybe some rivals. Ayano can be someone we look to avoid being like…an introverted girl who only lives to study at a prestigious school with no reason to live besides senpai. Maybe she can find a way to impress senpai and raise popularity by being friendly to classmates and staff. The story should have hand drawn cut-scenes where we seen every character as human. There can be realism and a well-thought out game. I used to like yandere sim when I was younger. As a writer, I know it could be so much more than what it is. It is pathetic.

I remember when I was into the game -- back in middle school -- my favorite character was Info-Chan, because I was thinking of the game as a character-based social sim, where having somebody who with very little prompting provides you with military grade weaponry in return for very little reward just because she's aware you like a boy was going to allow for the chance for the other shoe to drop sooner and later and for her true intentions to be revealed. I've realized that she's only a feature disguised as a person for quite some time now, but only when listening to you talk about her exclusion in the 80s mode does it become as obvious as it is. 11 year old me might have had the right idea.

Also, YandereDev actually got contacted by middle sized indie company (I forgot the name) and worked with them for a while. The indie company wanted to help improve the code and put a ton of progress into the game. After a few days Yandere Dev got really mad because of how much they were changing his code and pretty much told them "nah we aint doing this". He got offered help to properly code his game and to make it a ton better but just said nah fuck that and continued doing whatever the fuck he wanted for the years after. This was like 5 years ago at this point I think? I can't remember exactly as it's been to long and I don't care enough about this dude or his game to remember.

The lack of tutorial isn't really excusable, because even old games did have tutorials. Let's talk about one of the most famous games of all time, Super Mario Brothers. The beginning of the first level is really simple, some red bricks with a coin block in the middle, with a goomba that walks under them. The equal amount of blocks on the side of the coin block draws your eye to the coin block. What happens if I stand on it? If I jump and hit it? I know it does something. Also, you're introduced to the most basic of enemies. In this first section there are multiple ways of beating just this small section. Ignore everything and proceed. Kill the goomba and grab the coin. You can jump on the goomba and use its momentum to then hit the coin block. Or try to avoid the goomba and get the box. That's not even taking into account that the coin box you hit has a mushroom in it, teaching you how mushrooms make you grow larger and now you can get hit by the goomba one time before dying. Multiple ways of doing things, and the game doesn't explicitly tell you this is a tutorial and how to play the game. Just introduces the base mechanics in a way that even if you severely fuck up and lose all your lives it won't really matter (it's the first screen of the first world, after all). For another example of a much more difficult game, look at the original Dark Souls. Basically, the same, but with messages to teach you the very basics. *Edit* Tidied up my language a bit and added a bit that clarifies that the first coin box doesn't contain a coin, but a mushroom. So, it's actually teaching you even more mechanics than I previously mentioned.

on the rival elimination tactics, because you’re spot on with this- I think a big part of what made Yansim such a big hit back in the day when the earliest demos dropped was the hitman-style openness; after all, the game is literally called yandere SIMULATOR, and the bugs and whatnot were able to be excused and considered a charming part of the experience that added to the feeling of experimentation and free reign Yandev could have gone all in on that route and maybe even still be respected (he’s still the same guy, but his game at least wouldn’t be nearly as reviled), but he flew too close to the sun and seems to detest the core goofiness and ridiculousness of his own product he wants it to be a SERIOUS strategy game with SERIOUS gameplay without ever improving its foundation and in the process (either because he isn’t very adept with game design, doesn’t listen to play testers, has been at it for so long he’s lost the ability to perceive his work, or a combination of the three), YanSim has completely lost the appeal it originally hooked people with I said about 3 or 4? years ago that I thought he should have either gone all in with the sandbox thing and completely removed a sense of structure (besides maybe the repeating days/weeks) OR he should have just started from scratch and rebuilt the game’s core around a more narrative-driven, guided focus, because trying to add retroactive restrictions to his sandbox game with sandbox features hasn’t been working for the past however-many years of development. Now, instead of making a rival, figuring out a timeline for the week, and adding elements/disposal options thoughtfully, he instead has to spend all this extra time building his rivals around every single existing elimination strategy it’s a totally inefficient method of game development and it’s steadily destroyed what made the game enjoyable in the first place. your assessment was entirely accurate

I don't support Yandere Dev at all, but I kinda enjoy the game sometimes. The problem is, the things I enjoy the most are the easter eggs and cheats stuff that are so easily accessible, which is obviously not at all what it should be enjoyed for. The reason I find those enjoyable is because I'm given a pretty location, godly powers, and a bunch of "dolls" to play with, that all have slightly different appearances, and basically no personality. It's basically like a digital doll house. Now, I actually found 1980s mode kinda enjoyable for what it's supposed to be enjoyable for, and in that sense I think it's actually better than the original mode. But after some time of playing, you kinda figure out everything and how to basically win every single time (at least that was me), so it very soon becomes just boring.

@@dhampir_days Basically the programmer who was sent to work with him tried to change the game's code into C# on Unity 5 so the game can run smoother and be optimized better. However, our boy YandereDev didn't understand the code. But instead of asking the programmer what the code meant so he can work with the programmer and become better at programming, he fired the programmer and terminated the contract with TinyBuild and ended up owing them $31,000. Basically all because in YandereDev's eyes, this programmer came in, muddled up his 17,000+ lines of code and left. But really he just refused to learn a more smoother and more readable code.

Really late, but I feel something I think that's important to mention is the "Rank" feature at the end of 1980s mode. Like you mentioned in your previous video, its hard for players to have fun and explore different methods of elimination. In 1980s mode this is WORSE because there are only "canon" methods of elimination and any other methods affects your "rank". If you kill every rival you get an F and you are deemed guilty and its a game over.

A thing I started to do was to go on the randomizer and I would just make ships of random students. Since none of them have personalities and any defining features it is really easy to make them lol. So the NPC can literally become what you want then to be! (Thats a bad thing though from the game standpoint)

To the defence of absense of LGBT-characters: the game is about "mu*d*r all kids or some", and if there are gonna be LGBT+ ones, as in... one didn't-come-out Yandere-like, I don't remember, that means you're gonna bully or k*ll LGBT+-kids. The only good thing about 1980's Mode is the aesthetic, and the potential it has to be really good (.....like the normal 2020's Mode). Okay so from what I recall about the models. Yandev said he was aware of the licensing issue with the models, and stated that all of the assets currently in the game are placeholders. Yes, 7 years in...all of the assets are STILL placeholders for other assets he wants to put in. According to him, the true game is supposed to look almost nothing like it looks now. Now back to the whole crowdfunding money thing. I remember there was some kind of drama about people he supposedly hired to work on the game, then he had issues with them, they either quit or he fired them, then he said he refused to accept anymore help. I believe there was also an issue where he had volunteers trying to help, to which he apparently treated very badly and was very very egotistical. His creation of this game he said he wanted to be like a bunch of different games mixed in and he wanted it to be like "Hitman" in some ways as you brought up, but he tried inputting other game ideas too...Point is, this guy never had a clear direction going forward, then he would get ideas and just randomly put them in while losing the plot. He also got too big for his britches and felt he didn't need anyone else's help. Plus he apparently used most of the money from crowdfunding to avoid having to work while he was working on this project. And then he ran out.

Only read the beginning but an issue with the models is that while he wasn’t selling them directly, he was profiting off them. He was using the models to make his project appear more polished than it actually was.

I’m unsure if anyone has mentioned this (I haven’t finished the video) but there’s something that annoys me more than anything about 1980s mode. unless he had permission, half the ideas aren’t even his. Back in early 2018, a mod of the game called 1980s mode was released including: :A journalist outside the school who’s not allowed in :The final rival being the daughter of the journalist :The first rival being the ghost girl in the bathroom :One of the rivals being a famous and having blue twin ponytails :The Yakuza outside the school Strange, huh? The fact that these all show up in Yandev’s version? Of course it’s not original, what were we expecting?

Copy-and-pasting my response to someone else who voiced this complaint: It's probably because YandereDev is homophobic. He fetishizes wlw, is disgusted by mlm, and refuses to put either a male yandere or a female Senpai in his game, because doing either would make it gay/bisexual. And furthermore the few gay characters he does include are stereotypes, and all are minor. Not to mention, when someone asked him if he supported the lgbt community(a simple af question to answer) he immediately took it as an offense and assumed the person was attacking him, despite lacking any proof whatsoever to back up this absurd claim of his. So in short nobody gives a shit if Yandev includes queer characters in his game or not, because all know he doesn't know how to represent anyone correctly. But it's the fact that he openly and constantly screws up on this that is the problem.

The point about using models in fan videos was brief, but could go multiple ways. He could've meant "if you legally have these models (bought from Asset Store), then go on". And the point about the money, he could've just meant something like "you fellas go bring money to my patreon instead kek lulzm". He's not allowed to make money off the models, but he's damn sure allowed to make money off the game itself, which is not a derivative work of the models directly, or their exact copy (reuploading these same or modified models to, say, sketchfab, as paid ones would've been a big no-no though, for example). The point about "not allowing third-party to decompile" code and assets is kind of a gray area imo. I don't think I saw him endorsing this practice anywhere (correct me if I'm wrong), which should be enough to adhere to this agreement (hence, he did not "allow" it). And, with how much the tools have advanced by now, it's trivial to datamine the assets and even decompile the code to near source-code readability if your game is using .NET JIT (like YanSim).

This month or last month he said he doesn't wanna do the Kickstarter cuz he thinks no one will give him money even tho people have been giving him thousands of dollars on his patreon monthly lol. I recently had the unfortunate experience of finishing the S rank ending of 1989 mode. My main problem with it is that its SO. FUCKING. EASY. Every rival other than like 2 can be eliminated before the first class period on the monday. The only rivals that this wasn't the case was the matchmaking, but thats so fucking easy i was finished after doing it twice. half of the expulsion was just putting something in their bag and talking to the councillor. literally just that. the only "challenge" was rejection but even then it was so fucking easy. The only time i had fun in this fucking game was doing the insane asylum, which is literally the last task in the game. The entire thing is just an easy, repetitive mess.

There are several things I do not enjoy about the game. It mainly revolves around the bully girls, the personality of some characters, and the panty shots. If in the beginning if the game it tells you “ all characters are 18+” but then if we listen to dialogue from characters like osana or just anyone, akedemi is a HIGH SCHOOL . 18 year olds can be in like the 12th grade but it’s more common for them to be in college by that time. Why this bothers me is because I felt like in dialogue Akedemi would be a university or a college considering the ages of the characters. I think that the info in the beginning of the game was added after the voice acting

The dialogue says they are teenagers. They were lazy to change the audio so they put a lazy disclaimer saying " they aren't teens" then why the fuck does the audio say that they are?
