Bought my copy of “Maggot Brain” in 1971. It is the “Unipak” album cover. It is in excellent condition, both the pressing and cover. Glad to hear of its value. It has been played on good equipment over the years thank goodness. It’s one of those that I played on certain occasions.

Morning Dillion, great way to start my Sunday morning, coffee & a top 20 list of rare LP’s. Lucky me, I have the MC5, Zeppelin II & the King Crimson original pressings from my youth. Since I grew up listening to classic rock, I bought them & kept them together all thru decades. Also saw MC5 twice, live in concert at the Swing Auditorium in San Bernardino, Ca.

FARM! I lived in Mt. Vernon 1976-1983. They had come and gone before I lived there. They are still the pride of Mt. Vernon. I used to jam with drummer Mike Young and have met their other members way back then. I still regularly talk to people who are friends with the guys, and it was a great suprise to see their album on your list. The record shows up at the local record store (located in the building that once housed Red Fenton's music store, the store that George Harrison bought his first Gretsch guitar from in 1962). They recently had a vg+ to M- copy that they sold to one of their friends for $30.

As an Alice Cooper collector living in London some of my holy grail records are the Record Store Day Live From The Astroturf, Alice Cooper singles & LP's from Good Records in Dallas. I have become friends with Christopher Todd Penn & met him in the UK a few times with Dennis Dunaway & Cindy Smith Dunaway. The Live From The Astroturf, Alice Cooper movie has had 3 screenings in the UK. I own 2 Willy Wonka split pink/white vinyl singles & 2 Willy Wonka split pink/white vinyl LP's. Also a Confetti LP as well as all the other single & LP pressings.

Great record collection! I'm always interested in learning about new rare Psych records which were in the past (for us collectors who started in the 70s and 80s, were not well known about). That said, I'm glad to have started collecting when I did, when I see the prices of many of the 60s albums that are now considered to be "grails". Still so much yet to discover though! The internet has made awareness of and availability of so many rare Psych records possible now! Even young folks collecting 80s stuff, are interested in really cool stuff now (often not realizing that those bands were not what most people were listening to at the time, which actually was mostly mediocre top 40 then).

Couldn't agree more. I have an easier time now getting great reissues of psyche that I could never own otherwise. Plus today's reissues get cleaned up with Sonic Solutions software and are actually listenable. I have pre 2000 psyche compilations on good labels (sundazed etc) that are unlistenable. Nuggets era compilations no longer cut it!

Great video as usual👍 On a personal note....went to a local record show yesterday and picked up one of my holy grails that I have been looking for now for almost 4 years.....the self titled original US pressing of a band called Glass Harp. This album and band were truly amazing and have never seen one in the wild! The best thing was I was getting ready to leave the show with my bag in hand and noticed a dealer tucked away in the corner that I had not seen....was already WELL over my budget for the day but bit the bullet and paid a pretty penny for this masterpiece! Keep up the great work with your channel👍

I have Led Zeppelin II on Angus label, I think it’s 1970 Singapore press, and just been recently added to Discogs as unofficial release. I found it in a bootfair and took to record shop once for a valuation but because it had deep scratch and skip on Whotta Lotta Love it was valued only £30. Another one is Miles Davis Kind Of Blue mono 1961 repress I found in a charity shop alongside few other mono 60’s represses like Thelonious Monk (vol 1+2) I think they were £5 a pop but now worth in hundred + pounds and they are in great condition. My holy grail is Satori by Flower Travelin Band ! I finally found a repress that I could afford and am waiting for it to arrive in the mail. I found the name of the album ifrom your video "20 albums you have to hear". The story behind this quest is that I returned from Vietnam in Nov of 1971 with a reel to reel copy of an album I thought was called Suntory. I didn't know if that was the band name or the album. I got a copy of the tape from a fellow GI who went to Japan on R&R and brought it back. When I returned home I played the hell out of that tape and made several copies for friends. Everyone loved it. Somehow I lost my copy and have searched for the band or album for 50 years! Never knowing exactly what I was looking for. As soon as I saw you hold that copy up I knew. I did a quick KZbin search and that was it. Thank you again from an old Flower Travelin' Band fan.

Back in the 70s, I rented a house in Pennsylvania. After living there for a few months, I discovered a stack of 78 speed records hidden in the corner of a closet shelf in the living-room. I sorted through them and found an original 1956 Elvis Presley record. I put it on my record player and tried it out. It played perfectly all the way through. This was within a few months after Elvis died, and everything Elvis was going through the roof. I bumped into a local DJ friend at the bar I hung at on weekends. Turn out he is an avid record collector, so I thought I'd get his opinion about these records. I told him what I had, and he immediately offered me $600 for the Elvis. I said, let me go get it, and you can think about making that offer a bit higher while I'm gone. So, when I got home, I went straight to my record player to get the Elvis record and the other 78s that were on the mantle shelf behind the record player. I figured he might be interested in some others too. First thing I did was to grab the pile of records to put them in the box, so the Elvis record would be on top. When I did,, I bumped into a small marble angel statue, which fell right onto the Elvis record, shattering it into bits. When I returned to the bar, and told my friend what happened, he said that's a fucking shame, cause that record was probably worth over $1500. Well, another man might have been angry, and another man might be hurt, but another man never would have lived this down. I put the rest of the records back in the closet, and never thought about them again. The angel went in the trash.

One more to mention is the 3-LP box set, "Fillmore - The Last Days" (Columbia, 1972) - complete with the colour brochure, poster and repro concert ticket. @17:40 - It still blows my mind that the US release of Piper was issued without either Astronomy Domine or Flaming. I can see taking Bike or any other silly Syd song off to fit See Emily Play on, but not those two. Especially Astronomy.

Truth. Could've taken out either of the weakest 3 songs---The Gnome, Chapter 24, and Scarecrow. Taking out Astronomy Domine is just pure sacrilege.

My mom has a signed copy of Motley Crue’s ‘Too Fast for Love’ original pressing. Under the Lethür record label. Both the sleeve and the insert are signed by the whole band. I know only 900 copies exist with the original pressing. Do you know how much it goes for ?

I have a zep II RL, super clean. I juat spun it over the other night, amazing. My cover is not as nice, but i was told that after the recall, some of released inferior masters used the same cover. If true, i would love to search for it. I did have another copy with same catalog numbers on the cover, but it wasnt a match.

Awesome video! Unbelievable grails!!! I guess the “RL” is a given huh? Well, I would like an OG UK Sabbath Bloody Sabbath. Then, if the list can go on a bit, I would like an OG “Bryter Layter”, UK 1st pressing of “Diary of a Madman”, The 1st pressing of the Doors in Mono pressed in LA, JiMi Hendrix “Electric Ladyland” UK first pressing with that interesting cover, Vangelis Blade Runner Soundtrack (Red vinyl), and then the “Bozzio Levin Stevens” by Bozzio Levin Stevens supergroup. My Dad just went to the Banana Records warehouse and store in Florida, and couldn’t find that last one. I just don’t ever see it. Hey Dillion, sent you an email. Just an FYI about a new release. Peace!

17:35 That goes for a lot?? Huh! I need to revisit my collection. I began collecting as a teen in the ‘80s, and I wasn’t really “collecting” so much as scavenging things I thought seemed cool … and now 35 years later some of those items seem to have appreciated in value! I’ve got an original U.K. stereo pressing of _The Piper at the Gates of Dawn,_ and at the time (1987) it _did_ cost me a little more than I’d have usually paid - I scavenged the 99¢ bin at 2nd Hand Tunes in Evanston, Illinois, *every day,* it was just four blocks from where I lived and on my route home from school, but the Pink Floyd I got a further four blocks away from Vintage Vinyl for $20. I’ll have to look up what it’s worth today; I’m not parting with it, just curious what someone might pay for it!

Does your Black Sabbath "Paranoid" album have the Jim Simpson/ Big Bear credit on the inside gatefold? If it doesn't then it isn't a first-press copy. I have seen many copies of this album advertised as first-press but many have not had that credit so they are in fact not first pressings. I have this album twice - one British & one German pressings & both have the credits.

I have two copies of Ride The Lightning on Megaforce and one Kill Em All on Megaforce. But the real Metallica gem that I have is a first pressing of Metal Massacre Vol. 1 (and a third pressing as well). Found all of these back in the 90s at used record shops in Southern California. Didn't pay more than 15-20 bucks for any of them.

Coming up this RSD, Prince is releasing a repress of his promo-only 1995 Gold vinyl. Only available on vinyl as a USA promo. I was lucky enough to get the original free and mint, about 20 years ago, mixed in with a whole bunch of house promo 12inchers. Until recently, it was only worth $40, but the past few years it skyrocketed. Hopefully this RSD issue doesn't kill the value of the orig, but I'm not selling it anyway. Some of my most valuable records I paid a dollar for lol

It was cheap until he died, and when even the CD went out of print for years. After that, prices for the vinyl started to skyrocket. I’m pretty excited for the RSD re-issue, because it’s been one of my grails for years, and I’ve had no luck finding one for a price I’d be willing to pay.

My grail would probably be Lazy Smoke, Corridor of Faces on Onyx. I heard a story about how a guy who found it while digging through crates in a New England antique farm. It was right at the front of the first box he looked at. He thought there must be similar holy grails hidden throughout, but there was nothing else worth anything in the whole barn. But he did find the one true grail.

Probably the most famous grail record is the Beatles “butcher cover.” While peeled copies can be found fairly easily, the first state covers (that were never pasted over) are truly rare… especially in mint condition… and sell for crazy money. Black and gold label Please Please Me LPs are up there too in desirability and price. I would also argue that the first pressing of Nick Drake’s Five Leaves Left is more rare and expensive than Pink Moon. But really, any first pressing Nick Drake album is a grail.

In the UK I regularly see the Black Sabbath originals but not clean. People must have played them to death when they were new. My recent grails are Revel Weird and Wild and Time will Pass by the Spriguns UK presses in mint condition I bought them from the original owner who had played them maybe once or twice since new and kept them in mint condition. They also used to own "Magic Lady" which they sold years ago which would have been incredible to find but I don't think I could have afforded it. I also got mint original copies of Jeff Beck "Truth" and "Beck-Ola" from the same collector and Yardbirds "Roger The Engineer". Also loads of other great records but those were the highlights.

How many versions of the cover to Wish You Were Here have you come across? There's at least four, the guy on fire is in different positions one he's actually touching hands with the other person. Also, there seems to be a different number of naked ladles in the red scarf on the inner sleeve .
