First off... we know you love date videos, so we have a new date video coming this Thursday for you guys. We're bringing back a special someone. Guess whooo 😊 Second, as I said in the video, if you speak Cantonese (even just a little with your parents), then you have an advantage when it comes to learning Mandarin. I'd love to show you how to take advantage of that! 😁 Check out www.cantomandomedia.com/cantomando!

rest in peace, Moses aka 老鼠 🙏🏼 I watched the same fishing video a few years back and thought it was the coolest thing ever. Not bc a Black American Man can speak Mandarin & Cantonese, but his confidence and eagerness to approach native speakers and practice, communicate, and engage with them. He inspired me and so many others to learn languages outside of our cultures and really use it to connect with others in our community. He really brought a smile to a lot of people’s faces. 祝他一路走好😔

I showed my Chinese parents Laoshu and they were so happy and impressed by his language skills. My parents don't know Cantonese and were extremely impressed when they saw he could speak that too. Chinese immigrants are generally looked down upon in America, so they're generally very hyped to see people who take interest in chinese culture and language. Also that thing about parents going home and telling their kid that they saw a westerner speaking chinese better than them is 100%. After the video they turned to me and told me my chinese sucks compared to him 😭

@@kexinguo9810 Sure, if you are really devoted yourself to learning Cantonese, you can speak fluently. For most Mandarin speaking people, they either don’t have many friends who can speak Cantonese or they are very shy to speak even with Cantonese speaking people, so they lack of practice. This varies from person to person.

mandarin has 4 tones, cantonese has 6-9 tones. (according to google) i only know mandarin though. it makes sense for a cantonese speaker to have an easier time to learn mandarin. if i’m not wrong, cantonese has a few words that doesn’t have the characters to represent it which makes learning cantonese even more difficult.

Cantonese and Mandarin grammar is different tho. There are some words in Cantonese that cannot translate to Mandarin and the formality is different. Kinda like how when you write in chinese, it is written formally where as when you speak cantonese it's more casual. However, Mandarin can be directly translated to Cantonese but not the other way around. i know this was unnecessary but yeah.

Chinese to be more specific Cantonese/ mandarin is one of the most hardest language to learn because if I’m not mistaken it has over 8,000 characters. The fact that he knows how to speak it is already amazing, I’m so proud of this man even though I don’t know him 💜

if you know 200-300 characters you'd be able to read newspapers, most characters aren't actually used that often.

Everyone please go watch Laoshu’s brother’s video on Deception Stoppers about his death. He goes into detail about events surrounding his death and that he didn’t die of heart attack. It’s crazy. Hope justice will be served.

Learning another person's native tongue is an excellent way to make friends. It shows them that you value their language and culture by putting in the time to learn, as well as being willing to move into their comfort zone.

It’s incredible that Laoshu learned so many languages, touched so many people and became so well known just from being himself and connecting with people on a real level. Better than anyone with university degrees IMO

I am Chinese, my family is from Guangdong so I know Cantonese. I have started watching so much Chinese dramas, shows, listening to music lately all basically Mandarin, my Chinese has gotten better. I still don't know some characters but I know more than before. I can read majority if I remember, sometimes I remember the character but I don't know what it is. My understanding is way better now tho, I like subtitles but if there is no subtitles I like to see how much I improved than before. I know Mandarin and Cantonese are not the same but part of the reason I know some Mandarin is some pronunciation sounds similar so I remember those. I still need to work on it but I am honestly proud of myself. Before I didn't know any.
