Historically speaking it actually makes sense for Dracula to dress the way he does in the movie as the suit he wears is a formal dress suit that diplomats, royalty and political leaders used to (and in some countries still do) wear during formal ceremonies like state visits, which makes sense for Dracula since he's a Count; the medallion is actually what those same people wore/wear with the formal dress suit as a sign of status or as a sign of respect if they received that medal from the country they're visiting or being visited by.

@@caldw615 I think it is less of a military medal and more like the medals that are handed out by European knightly orders. Of course in Vlad Tepes' day those were military orders, but by the 1800s when most Dracula stories are set, they were just clubs for the nobility. You still see European nobles and royals wearing the medals of their different country's knightly orders at black tie affairs, so it fits well with Dracula in a tuxedo to show him as an aristocrat.

Max Shrek, the actor that portrayed the vampire in Nosferatu (the unofficial first movie based on Dracula because the producers couldn't get the rights from Stoker's widow) does that. He never blinks through all of Nosferatu. He felt it gave the character a true, undead feel, because why would an undead creature need to blink.

My most genuine terror scream was one day while I was making music on my computer which as I was making it started to devolve into essentially noise music. That bit about Lugosi killing his carreer by being synonymous with his role reminded me of the TV show "The Fugitive" where the lead character, Dr. Richared Kimble was portrayed by the actor David Janssen. The show ran for many years, and eventueally many people became convinced that it was a sort of documentary about real events, which led to people contacting the FBI wherever Mr. Janssen showed up. If i remember correctly, Mr Janssen had to wear a disguise in order to avoid this, which made not just his carreer, but his private life too, a very difficult thing to pursue.

Another thing to add the amulet does make sense as you'll notice that Dracula bears the title of Count an official in a royal hierarchy and as such for those old times it would be custom for someone of that hierarchy to wear things like medals, sashes and amulets which actually do match his outfit for the time period which at a glance from the movie can be described as mid to late 19th century.
