Just an update, I was able to remove the stem valve fairly easy from my oxygen tanks. I just placed them into a vice, sprayed some WD-40 on the stem valve and used a pipe wrench to loosen it. Thanks again for making this video so I knew what direction to loosen the stem valve.

Fyi...get garden hose, cut a slice along length of 2 three foot pieces. Tie together then fix them to a pole stationed in concrete. Get cargo strap and double wrap bottle to pole firmly. As tight as you can, against the cushioning on the cut hoses of course. Now you will be able to wrench of the regulator in a normal lefty loose kind of way. Hope this helps you in the future. Good day Sir!

I knew for the regulator thread, that flammable gases are left hand, and oxidisers right hand. I never knew that applied to the valves into the cylinder as well! Thanks for posting, you're right, you may well save someone time and frustration in future :)

Thanks for the video, I too spend so much time trying to find info that seems simple yet no answer. Google just wants to sell you stuff, or show you what is 'typical' or 'common'. I got like two dozen of these, fortunately they removed the regulators. Not sure what to do with them, but making a lightweight propane tank seems the plan for at least a few of them.

you may need to grind a flat notch on the neck on 2 sides so a crescent wrench can be used to hold the bottle , i regret not thinking of this when i made this video
@stephenhess98067 жыл бұрын
good idea. I'll try that. I'm going to need a bigger wrench to pry that thing loose. I'll try some heat with a torch to see if that makes it any easier.
@NOBOX77 жыл бұрын
ok be carfull and if your gonna use a torch try to not heat the valve up, just the neck this will allow expansion to do a better job , if you hit the valve with flame also it to will expand . that sucker is on there tight bro and it seems they used a lock tight compound as well , if you have to take some rope and make a hoop about twice the size of the tank then stick a pipe inside the hoop and the tank and spin the pipe so it causes the hoop to twist and grip the pipe , if you make the hoop wrap around the pipe a few times before the twist its even better , its a special rigging technique
@11kmdeep6 ай бұрын
Thanks for this gem. This rigging comment and the video saved me a lot of grief. Found a strap and some pipe wrapped it up and had the valve off in a couple minutes.

@NOBOX78 жыл бұрын
yeah they make a special vice for these , be very carfull , if there is still oxygen in bottle when you try to open it the aluminum can explode like thermite , this happen to a guy who had a bad valve and a full tank, he tried to crack the valve loose just enough ot let the o2 seep out and the thing exploded and blew his arm off , there is a web page about it
@NOBOX78 жыл бұрын
have you tried rapping rope around it with like ten loops then nail the rope down to a work bench . or rap rope around it very tightly like ten loop then tie the left over to a tree so the bottle is tied to a tree if you tie the rope correctly it will tighten as you turn the bottle if you have it rapped the wrong way it will loosen , its hard to explain. it would of bin smart of the bottle makers to put a wrench notch on the neck of the bottle so you could use 2 wrenches to loosen the neck . would it be possible for you to notch the neck with a angle grinder on 2 sides so a crescent wrench could hold it ?
@left_Dane_right_Dane8 жыл бұрын
They said "will ship empty" but I opened the valves and they both had quite a bit of air left in them. It seems like it's pretty thick so I might notch it, that's a good idea

Hey guys.. Does anyone know if it is possible to convert a oxygen tank like this into a propane tank? Tia
@mikegauthier63643 жыл бұрын
I have multiple oxygen tanks of different sizes. What I really wanted to know is if I could convert it to propane and if there was a fitting that would work for that with the threats that are already there. Since these heavy cylinders are becoming obsolete I thought it would be a great idea to repurpose them to propane. I understand oxygen tanks can hold more PSI then I normal propane tank can and it is a bit of an Overkill According to some.
@benm93822 жыл бұрын
You can, but you need to take into consideration that you have to change the valve to a pol type so, it has the right pressure release device for LPG. Then you have to calculate the WC and work out 80 percent of that so you dont over fill it with too much propane, and have enough room for expansion.
