I bought a basic NOCO GB150 3000A a few years ago. Starts my Volvo D13 with ease. Just make sure to connect the leads directly to the starter cables on the battery, otherwise, it won't work. On 1 full charge, it can start an engine about 2-3 times before it will need to recharge again.

I purchased a "Battery Tender" brand at Lowe's. Rated at 1200 amps. On a -20 F wouldn't start 3.5 v8 after filling up with gas. I was happy to get to use my "Battery Tender" but it was a complete dud. Some dude had a NOCO and it started right up. So I purchased the NOCO GBX155. Everything seems solid on this thing. Even the box it came in is cool and we'll made. The print in the manual is a bit small for a 35 yr industrial mechanic but my only complaint. I like that it can be used as a charger for laptops etc. You can even recharge it in your vehicle after you use it.

Just thought I'd mention this if you hold that button next to where it says override for 3 seconds it'll put it into boost mode and you don't have to wait. At least that works on my smaller model.
@elkbow2 ай бұрын
Boost mode is for batteries that are dead, less than 3v, a the unit will only chase above that, that's when boost mode is required (when it doesn't chase). There is no difference in output voltage or wait times. The unit has a 60 second shut off timer.

Question: In this case, had you replaced your truck battery on a regular basis, (such as once every three years,) do you think you would still need a jump starter?
@chrisp95384 ай бұрын
YES. IT is a back up tool, for when you forget to change the batteries or operate in cold remote areas. Some Batteries are better than others too. Some last, some dont. I must have in trucking or fire fighting in the bush. A tool for trucks. Big engines need crank power to start, so the cheaper models are not the same. Do not store in cold or supper hot areas. Room temp. The question for me is, can I afford it right now. If you got the money and travel a lot in a F150 and up, this is a great tool. F350 and up or V8. Keep in mind, you have to charge it all the time and have it all the time. That is hard to do. a headache.

I bought this one after I got stranded in Montana. I realized I got lucky that it was October and only like 12゚ instead of like February at negative 30 or something crazy like that. Took my company 4 hours to get a service truck out to me.

With Noco you don't need to bother connecting or disconnecting it a certain way. It has protections again sparks(the situation you describe) but also against reverse-polarity.

How do you operate with this back up charger? Do you charge it in the truck while travelling and keep it ready after a night sleep, or do you charge in the house and travel with it? How long does it hold charge too? Im having battery problems again I think, or parasitic draw at night on my F350 2022. Wont start in cold weather too. Need a good back up system that reduces my frinking stress. Ty. Nice engine.

There are 2 models beefier than the GB150/GBX155, the first is the GB250 that has a 12v and 24v variant then the GB500 that can do both 12v/24v. They are super pricey though but not for the normal driver.

Can I hook up the 40 / 70 to a NOCO Trickle Charger?
@theociba3762 Жыл бұрын
They have pretty responsive customer/tech support. Based on my experience, you can keep the pack attached to a USB which would keep your packed fully charged, but it holds a charge forever - I don't think you'll have the need. After a few jumps, and IF the lights show a decrease in battery strength, just plug it in. Do NOT charge the by attaching to your car battery via alternator, which you can do with a lead acid jump pack. It will damage or destroy it.

As soon as it gets cold these don’t work. I have the GB150. Won’t start anything at -30
@Mrreal18712 жыл бұрын
At -30 you might as well ask god to jumpstart you lol. Keep it in the house warm then bring it out hopefully it will start it.
@aidenschvatkok5732 Жыл бұрын
I jump start the shit out of stuff with my gb150 in -30. No big bore diesels but lots of automotive gassers including small blocks. What are you trying to start with it? I know it’ll glitch go weird sometimes and click repeatedly with the battery bars and a white light. If it’s doing that, unhook a lead, turn it on, manual override it and reconnect the lead.
@aidenschvatkok5732 Жыл бұрын
@@Mrreal1871I bring mine inside at night if it’s below -20c because it is not good for lithium batteries to be stored below that temp. Noco says in the manual you can store it down to -30c but I don’t.

@@aidenschvatkok5732 ford escape , if you keep the booster in the cold car it won’t work when you want it to.
@aidenschvatkok5732 Жыл бұрын
@@Satisfyingtoday if it’s one of the newer escapes they are a pain because the ground terminal (or maybe positive I can’t remember) is under the cowl. I always go right to the battery whenever possible. They tell you not to do this because sparks could ignite hydrogen venting, more for liability of boost pack manufacturer as people with zero experience may be using their product. I’ve only had one battery explode while boosting after boosting thousands of vehicles and it would have exploded no matter where I hooked to it. I think it blew up because of an internal short. It didn’t go until the driver turned the key to start and then it peeled the top back off the battery and sounded like a 12 gauge going off. I definitely keep more distance now and don’t let customers near the engine compartment when boosting.
