In my opinion, you could have gotten more starts from the GB40 if you had read the instructions. Quote "Do not attempt more than five (5) consecutive jump starts within a fifteen (15) minute period. Allow the GB40 to rest for fifteen (15) minutes before attempting to jump start the vehicle again." The way you were going at it with the starting and stopping either 1) It caused the GB40 to fault thus not allowing power to flow. It has built in protections Or 2) as @Muhannad Ammar stated "the car quit turning over, not because of Noco Booster but because the starter internal armature burned out!!!" I have seen this happen with poorly trained aaa techs who are to impatient when trying to jump someone. Best suggestion I can make for anyone using a jump booster.... Read the instruction. They are written for a reason.

The booster is also not designed to start the car without the battery connected. Even a dead battery has around 3 MA of power which is enough to keep the booster from going into no start mode. If you use them like here in Canada with subzero weather as the norm believe me the cool of time is way faster ,I own a GB40 and and use it on a small pickup truck with a 4L 6 cylinders and this thing can boost it sitting in a snowbank more than 4 times ,Noco products are a dying breed of quality products just their packaging shows that this company care about their name and quality of their products ,these booster are like a small brick with thick plastic something we rarely see coming from china nowadays and the quality of their plugs and wires is top notch , and they have a complete line of adaptors, cigaret lighter adaptors ,cable extension, that you can also buy separately, i've also purchased from Noco their Genius Gen1 battery maintainer your can mount permanently under the hood totally waterproof ( even recommended for boats batteries ) you just plug and forget ! Today's cars electronic pull all kind of juice out off our battery even in the turned off state, plus batteries are not what they used to be with all kind of ecological restriction and the use of powder acid instead of the liquid one used before,these new batteries goes bad at the blink of the eye if left to long discharged !

Had you left the battery terminals on and waited for a minute or two, that first jump box would have probably started the car. One, when a vehicle is dead the engine computer doesn't store the "drivability fuel tables" - It may take an attempted start or two to run to idle. Two, NEVER JUMP START WITH THE BATTERY NOT CONNECTED TO THE CAR! Three - Not a truck. Four, where do you live that you can leave the door open over night? Where was the battery run down protection? If you have an alternator that works (aka just a drained/dead battery), these work beautifully. Even if the battery is totally dead, getting it running is going to get the alternator providing the needed power. You're good. If the alternator dies, it may not matter jumping the car. The alternator may not be creating enough power to keep the computer running. Ask me how I know. I've had 3 damn alternators die in the last year, stranding me. The gb40 could jump it 3, 4, 5 times, car wouldn't drive.

Normally, a car engine system in good condition should start on the first or second shot. When jump starting the battery would be connected, and thus, being a lead-acid battery the power left in the battery would be adding with the power from the portable booster. Once the car is started you remove the booster unit, and close the hood. When inside of the car you can use the 12 Volt utility socket with the USB type charger to top up the Lithium battery in the booster unit. The power would be coming from the alternator, unless the alternator is not working, and thus the car will not go very far on a dead battery. I have the GB40 booster. I just recently got the GB70. I wanted the larger one because it has a 12 Volt utility socket that I use to run an air pump, or other 12 Volt type devices.

Be advised that these things don't hold a charge for very long. I received mine about 6 months ago, charged it to full capacity and left it in the trunk of my car. When my battery died I decided to give it a try. To my chagrin, the damn thing lost 75 percent of its charge just sitting in the trunk. I have had similar issues with other lithium chargers so I'm wondering if it's just a characteristic of the genre. The NOCO does come with a USB charging cable and a cigarette lighter adapter so I suppose I could just leave it on constant charge in my car but that kind of defeats the purpose in my opinion. This thing is also kind of expensive. You can buy chargers with much more charging amps (albeit, much larger in size) at your local Walmart for about half the price.

same issue with an old DBPower unit from 2016, the excess heatwave must have caused the batteries to bloat and cracked the case, thankfully it didnt explode or anything. but it's been in the car for 6+ years now and it has gone through numerous heatwaves, yet the issue only appeared now. best to store the device at home during extreme cold/heat conditions, but other than that the device HAS to be in the car, because this is exactly when you will need it most when you expect it the least.

Always have 2 gauge, 30 ft heavy duty jumper cable in the car as a ultimate backup. My GB40 is ok for hot temperature. But for cold weather, it barely turned over my 4 cylinder car when outside temperature drops below 30F . This vehicle typical has problem starting at cold temperature. So GB40 is not good option for me

NOCO GB 40 Didn't start my Honda 2.2 said it could start up to 3L however no luck here - was dead - the battery was at 5.7 volts and it was cold but not freezing - was not enough amps took my battery off the car and then charged overnight then put battery back on and car started - this device was not capable- I think it can start a battery with some drop in charge but not a depleted battery. I charged it all night then tried again in the morning no start again .

I'm actually surprised it started without the battery. I bought the gb70 and returned it as it would not turn over my old diesel pickup I used to have without batteries connected, despite claiming to start up to 6L diesel (it was 5.9L). I have the gb40 which I have used many times and it has trouble with anything bigger then a 4 cyl in extreme cold (below -20°c)with warm booster. Warmer temps it does alright. I still have a lead acid booster as well and I think it has a little more oomph. Thinking of connecting the two permanently to make a hybrid booster but that might let the smoke out I'm worried

@@Kitearmy yeah my one buddy has called me a mad scientist a few times. I have hooked both boosters to a battery at once and it didn't blow up. I'm tempted to try it. @@Kitearmy trust me I know! I had one explode once. I am a tow truck driver, boosted 1000's of batteries without incident before it happened. It was a CN hirail pickup. Boosted it once and he made it ten minutes down the road and parked in a grocery store parking lot. I boosted it again to move it out of the spot to make it easier to access so I could tow it. As soon as driver turned key to start the whole top blew off the battery. I was 4' away and got one little drop of acid on my arm that was it. Should have bought a lottery ticket lol

Twice, I have had different customers call me for a jump after the precious GB40 they keep in the trunk for emergencies failed to start their 4cyl car. I double checked and the GBs were, indeed, fully charged. This isnt a review or complaint btw, I just know they're good for my business because they don't work when they're need the most. Booster products are essentially a 2nd battery source. Leave this product outside in your car when it is freezing and it will not function properly and the fault lies squarely on users . During freezing temp times bring it with you. Never ever leave it outside during freezing temperatures. What if you leave your labtop outside during a minus 25 night. In the morning try starting it up and it wont work properly.
@Kitearmy6 жыл бұрын

What if you leave your ECU (that is essentially a tiny laptop - Engine control unit) outside during a minus 25 night ? ... lithium batteries are not meant to be recharged from the alternator Unlike your lead acid car battery.. Doing this test over and over will actually ruin your jump pack.. it also proves nothing since they're supposed to aid your battery not replace your battery.
@Kitearmy6 жыл бұрын
That's right slasher....it does prove that the Noco gb40 has enough power to turn over my engine without any battery assist.
@slasher75556 жыл бұрын
Just because it can, doesn't mean you should. The bypass button (which ignores the 2v safety protocol and makes it possible to start completely dead batteries with a full 12v circuit) isn't meant to replace the battery completely. It was a gimmick that Noco said they could do it.. but its not recommended. The Feedback from the Alternator charging system that would normally start charging your car battery can and will damage the lithium ion jump pack especially if done repetitively or left connected for longer than a few seconds after the jump.. which can either stop it from working completely.. or damage it in such a way it will never be as powerful again making the peak amperage lower than advertised. I'd hate to see someone watch a video like this and believe its an ok thing to do and then wonder why their jump pack no longer works or as efficiently.
@Kitearmy6 жыл бұрын
point accepted. youtube is riddled with stupid stuff that people do...add this to the pile. It's probably why the pack quit functioning after the 9th start.
