At 22:54, I wonder if attacking with Dryad Arbor was correct? With hindsight it would have stopped the reanimate on frog the next turn. Awesome league as always, thanks Bosh!

Sure. A line that loses to anything vs keeping 3 mana and a hand full of bangers at a healthy 10 life. Reasonable people might go for the kill.
@daltonmekis2 ай бұрын
@@BoshNRollI think it’s worth more of a look than that. Upside is that it goes for lethal, but we need to consider the fail cases. If they have a daze, they can force us to tap the arbor and then we have removed the creature that is less important. If they have a bowmaster, they can kill our Arbor either way and the difference again becomes that you just removed the weaker creature. Same goes for fatal push. They cut out our mana either way. But it’s also pretty reasonable to assume if they had those in hand, they would have taken out your Arbor on their turn, before you can use the mana. They can’t FoW since they are at 1. They can’t Petty Theft since your creature is not a nonland. And they can’t block with Borrower since Arbor doesn’t fly. I could be forgetting more cards they play, but the way I see it, it’s likely they don’t have a removal spell in hand that can kill Arbor, so the only card that is really bad is them having a daze, forcing you to remove Bowmaster instead of Frog. As you mentioned, they could also have spell pierce or something like FoN, but neither of those would change which line is better here

I played roughly this contraption at a local legacy event, a couple of leagues, and came to broadly the same conclusions. This build just goes in too many directions--there's the vaguely Maverick-y elements in things like Halfling, Keen-Eyed Collector, Endurance, Uro, et. al. You play the blue cantrip shell, and do that too. And on then you also have Nadu. It's all just a little too complicated and finicky, and the full send Chord Nadu is a better Nadu combo/Zenith deck, and Breakfast is likely a better control/combo Nadu deck. This is a middle child that has too much clunk to get through what has very quickly become a streamlined format.

In hindsight, at 28:15 a brainstorm would have been a better play. I guess the reasoning at the current state of the game is endurance on the next turn cycles could be a surprise blocker for murktide and you could find an answer for the murktide with the brainstorm. You also know nothing is coming out of the GY this turn and that you could find a green card with bstorm for endurance if that's the case. But oh well murktides gonna murk!
@bennosal62682 күн бұрын
@boshnroll Ive been testing this deck alot i like one chord of calling and 2 uro playing daze and brazen. I think you can play in a spot that has control elements and breakfast at the same time. at the base of the creatures you still have a hgh powered Uro and a 3 power flyer that can win on its own. dimir wins with brazen and a 6 power murtide all the time is their much difference?

On Magus of the Moon. I think I probably would have forced it, because it puts them in real pressure mode, and it may allow them to develop mana through City of Traitors. Obviously this isnt the direction you went.
@einmensch66942 ай бұрын
49:00 If you draw any green source, your mana would have just been enough for nomads + nadu. Would that not be enough to fight through an archon (possibly)?

Imo the loss in Game 3 of round 4 wasn't a "get got", it was simple flood. Even without a blood moon ever resolving the only thing that changes is prismatic ending being unlocked and a 1/1 being in play, which wouldn't have changed the outcome here I think. You were screwed either way, just like with the "land destruction" at the end, but I can appreciate thinking through everything and playing for the win regardless; I learned something from the sequence at the end I wouldn't have if you realized you're dead on board earlier.
@matkov80Ай бұрын
at 1:01:30 I think opponents reasoning was: If I put all damage on dryad arbor OR split you will always redirect and only dryad arbor will get killed. I have blood moon and rabblemaster so I just want nomads dead to avoid you drawing a land and assembling the combo. If I put all damage at nomads there is a at least a chance that you will not redirect and therefore I will kill what I actually want to kill.
@lt53342 ай бұрын
Round 1, Game 3 22:49 why don't you also attack with dryad arbor? they can't meaningfully block it without you being able to keep your 7/7 around. If they block with the frog you keep your 7/7 around, so they still have to triple block your 7/7 to kill it. I thought it was incorrect to not attack with the arbor there, and then it ended up in multiple examples where they had one life. That damage with the Arbor would've mattered multiple times. I'm curious as to why you didn't even consider attacking with the dryad. I know sometimes you think about it, say "no it's not worth it" but here i don't believe you even considered it, and I think you would've won the game had you swung with it
@lt53342 ай бұрын
if you swing with both, they can't block with the orc army, because they would 4 and die, they can block with the bowmasters, take 0 damage if they discard, but you keep your 7/7 around, and lose the arbor, or if they block with the frog, they take 2 damage, go to one, and reanimate is no longer a good spell, and their fetches and force of wills are turned off. So their best bet is to block with the bowmasters, ditch a card to the frog to take 0, and reanimate bowmasters is no longer a good out as it puts them to 1. The best case is that they triple block your 7/7, make the same play, but now they're at 2 life and reanimate is no longer a live draw. I think you should've at least considered this when making attacks that turn
@BoshNRoll2 ай бұрын
@@lt5334 If I had done all of the math I might have attacked with it. But letting them eat Arbor with frog and go to 1 leaves their hand full, their best card in play, and having or drawing any removal spell ends the game.
@lt53342 ай бұрын
i suppose, but with your mana at what it was, shouldnt we be looking to end the game faster and with less chances to draw a removal? your outs are still to draw a white source @@BoshNRoll

I'm a little confused by the concession at 49:00. If you draw a green source, you jam your combo and flip 8 or more cards over the next turn cycle, so your odds of winning seem pretty good to me.
