@gmprice5 жыл бұрын
@Trips :) Lots of good bands. If you think NoMeansNo wasn't brainy you didn't get into them. But the topic was prog-punk live energy, not many people who saw NMN in early 90s think there are bands anywhere that matched them for that. I brought people who loved all those bands and also deadheads, hip hop fans... jaws always dropped.
@itsfine58184 жыл бұрын
@Trips I'm wondering if you are at all aware how cringy this statement is. "You can prefer shallow music, I prefer more intellectual" You're not smarter than anyone else here, you're in fact far dumber for thinking like that.
@itsfine58184 жыл бұрын
@Trips Sure, there is some distinction. However, some music being more intelligent does not equal being superior in any way as your first comment implied - making you look like a pretentious douche.

My first "real" live in my life was them, in Toulouse, France at about that time. I also discovered just a few years ago that they were still around... Thanks to an ad for a concert in Cork, at the Crane Lane :D (almost missed it) So I went to see them a second time, more than 20 years later.. It was weird, awesome, and it was one of the best concerts I have ever seen in Ireland. Even got to chat a bit with them after the gig. Just really great human beings :)

Nomeansno (sometimes stylized as NoMeansNo or spelled No Means No) was a punk rock band formed in Victoria, BC and later relocated to Vancouver. They issued 11 albums, including a collaborative album with Jello Biafra, as well as numerous EPs and singles. Critic Martin Popoff described their music as "the mightiest merger between the hateful aggression of punk and the discipline of heavy metal." Formed in 1979 by brothers Rob and John Wright, the group began as a two-piece punk band influenced by jazz and progressive rock. They self-released their debut Mama LP in 1982. They were inducted into the Western Canadian Music Hall of Fame in 2015, and announced their retirement the following year.

Between 1988 and 1990 I feel lucky that I saw them in Ottawa, Montreal (Foufonnes), Copenhagen and London (and a few other places in Europe too). My favourite moment was in London in front of their by far biggest crowd (+1000ish), someone was climbing onstage to do a stage dive and Rob crosschecked him, on the beat, with his bass (maybe in Metronome or Rags and Bones?) right back down into the crowd so all 4 strings made a huge sound on impact and then he continued right back into the riff on time like it was part of the song. Greatest live band of all time.
@insertpithynamehere2 жыл бұрын
This is brilliant! And they're just such little kittens, here!! I wish I'd jumped on the chance to see them live when I could. I was born in '82, (in Victoria!) but: I had sisters who were 8 and 10 years older. I was spoonfed The Radness that is NMN. "Why do they call me Mister Happy? Because I'm so .... fucking....... smart" and "If every fourth animal in the world was a beetle...." were quoted lovingly around our house growing up. Coulda, shoulda, woulda....didn't. I suck. Still treasure their tunes, though. I went as one of their songs for Halloween this year.
