I've been seeing "One Pace" recommended by some people ever since I expressed interest in getting into the anime. It looks like there was legit effort put into it and fillers have been removed, like they're planning to do with the remake from Netflix called "The One Piece." I have read some comments from some of the anime fans that the original One Piece _does_ have fillers and some pacing issues at times (which is expected, because it's designed to be consumed in 20-minute weekly episodes). I'm just wondering how you lot feel about "One Pace." If that's even an acceptable form to consume One Piece at all.
@JustLikeSoMusic9 ай бұрын
They did a really good job imo, id still say there are not too many fillers and they're pretty good but the pacing gets more and more atrocious the further you go. And not everything is done if I remember correctly so id put it as a good companion more than a way to watch it (but you will gain time thats for sure). My best advice would be to enjoy the journey at you're own pace ! Good luck its worth it dw.
@liprekt9 ай бұрын
@@JustLikeSoMusic In that case, original it is. I'm certainly in no hurry to catch up. That would be craaazy! The anime is over 1000 episodes now and there's no way I can reasonably catch up to that.
@JustLikeSoMusic9 ай бұрын
@@liprekt Oooh dw you will catch up faster than you think lol, but if you start to feel like they're extending the episode for nothing (like breathing for 2 hours you know the drill) you should still check it out and dont let it drive you away from one piece, I mean I started reading it because of that. And there are films that recap some arcs but dont watch them as a replacement you would miss alot, its more for a quicker better animated version of it afterwards.
@shruikan649 ай бұрын
One Pace should not be used as a first time viewing experience, it takes away from a lot of scenes that are canon.
@MoostachedSaiyanPrince9 ай бұрын
My recommendation is watching the first 206 (give or take) episodes of the original anime, then switching to One Pace. Mainly because the original anime managed to pad out the episode count in a very organic way until that point. To give a non-spoilery example: we eventually come across a character who will become INCREDIBLY important to the story much after than they're introduced. The way the manga handle this is with a brief instruction to the character, establishing a little bit about their connection to another character, then we only see them a few brief times up until that moment they become important. One Pace sticks to the manga, so this character only gets about 10 minutes (I'm estimating) of screen time until they vanish from the story for a long time. But the original anime adds scenes and a few entire episodes to let the audience to get to know and grow attached to this character before they leave the story. So the anime lets us see this character interact more with the rest of the characters around them much more, and that goes a long way towards making us care more about them later on once they resurface IMO. It's only around the 200 episode mark where the way filler and the way padding is added to the runtime of episodes shifts, and becomes egregious enough to become off putting. There's also some filler content that's really worth watching. Like some episodes that are exclusive to the anime in the arc following where the LA left off, and there's one filler arc in particular that's widely considered to be one of the best filler arcs in all of anime. And yes, I know that's a really low bar, but a lot of people would put it at the same level of quality as some of the other arcs in the series. Hell, I consider that filler arc to be better than the canon story arc that immediately follows this filler arc. TLDR: I think the first 200 episodes of One Piece should be watched in their original form, then switch to One Pace wherever you can for the rest.

It might seem very happy go lucky type to someone who’ve never watched it but trust me, it has got some of the darkest themes like slavery, dictatorship, oppression, propaganda, etc . Alright Lip to clarify some things the Live Action touched on briefly. The Grand Line is a sea in the shape of a belt, that wraps around the equator of the planet. The red line runs North to South as a belt of land from the Ocean floor to above the clouds. The Grand Line entrance is close to Loguetown yes. Most of the locations you have seen are somewhere along the Grand Line. Though some are outside it like Baratie or Arlong Park, which are in the East Blue. One of the 4 main Oceans that are quite normal and stable. Travelling West on the Grand Line is the majority of One Pieces story. We have never left since entering and Loguetown is the last place we go outside of it.

Some of the stuff people from East Blue say about the Grandline gotta be recontextualized (both in the manga/anime and the live action) . First all , East blue being the deemed weakest sea , most people over those know close to nothing about the Grandline , except rumors , and the fact that very few of their pirates ever go back from it . Then while the Grandline definitively got plenty scary and dangerous places , its bad reputation is about mostly how hard it can be to enter and access it , and freely travel within it , between natural phenomenons , Sea beasts , pirates and other villains , and some navigation issues . But there are plenty of chill places within the Grandline , where even your average civilians live .

Okay here's a really general break-down of the world of OP - (pretty much spoiler-free) Let's start by saying that the world of One Piece is from 3x-10x bigger than our own. Picture this ( X ) as the planet. The lines that form the X go all the way around the planet, like belts. This cuts the world into four parts and these parts are filled with ocean which are called the Blues - North Blue/South Blue/East Blue/West Blue. The Live Action took place all within the East Blue (bar, assuming, the parts with Shanks and Mihawk's battle with Kreig). These oceans are filled with various islands. One of the lines that goes around the planet is the Red Line - the only known continent in the world. It runs like a strip around one axis. The other belt is the Grand Line - a stretch of ocean that runs on the other axis around the planet. Due to the unique make up of the Grand Line, it is its own separate ocean, divided into two parts that are split where it intersects the Red Line. The first half is called Paradise and the second half is called the New World. This New World is what is mentioned in the video. The Grand Line is much more perilous than the Blues - incredibly dangerous for many reasons, and where most people assume Gold Roger left his treasure, the One Piece. The Grand Line, like the Blues, is also filled with islands - each with their own culture, society, environment, history, customs, religions, etc. These can be INCREDIBLY varied for specific reasons I won't get in to because it's honestly more fun to learn about the details for yourself. All this to say that the world of One Piece is huge and filled with all the adventure you could ever want.

There is a video by Grandlinereview that explains the geography of the One Piece world, but TLDR, there are four seas named after the cardinal compass directions. But they are divided by two things(technically more): the stretch of sea along its equator called the Grand Line, and a the only continent on the planet that is a ring perpendicular to the GL called the Red Line. The RL is so tall that it goes above the clouds. And the GL can't be so easily entered because of a barrier that cordones it off from the regular seas known as the Calm Belt, which is like the Bermuda triangle if it were a laser wall. No wind for sails, and a breeding ground for large sea monsters. The RL has an area called Reverse Mountain, which is a point where all four seas have a route that takes them straight into the Grand Line without touching the Calm Belt. As for accessing the other half of the Grand Line, you have two options, travel across the Holy Land at the other end pf the Red Line, where they give you a different ship or arrest you for piracy, or find a way to travel under the water with your ship through a cave 10,000 meters below sea level to access it. Hope that helps. But if you need visual aids to assist, try the video.

The 2025 anime for One Piece isn't a remaster, it's more like a remake. A different animation studio is gonna go back to the start of the series and will basically make a new version of the anime that's supposedly (and hopefully) gonna stick closer to the source material than the original anime. In theory, it should end up being a definitive anime experience for the series. As for the comparisons to a newer version of the anime you mentioned seeing, that's something kinda similar. Basically, once we hit the HD era, the company that owns the rights to One Piece made several HD movies that are essentially reimaginings of the earlier stories from the anime. These movies tell the story MUCH quicker, but these aren't really a good replacement for the anime because they're super condensed versions. So a LOT was cut in order to accommodate the run time for each of these movies. In some places, they even added things. Like, one of these reimaginings made up a new villain and included an existing character from the core series, but they weren't actually there in the original version. These movies exist to retell the story of One Piece, but only as abridged companion pieces intended for people who have already seen the anime or read the manga. They give fans a better looking and more condensed way to relive their favorite moments from the series without having to spend several hours watching an entire story arc or just viewing these moments out of context.

The biggest difference between other anime live actions and one piece is the creator of One piece was extremely active with its creation and had a lot of veto/power over what direction they took and what freedoms they took as well. With all the other anime adaptations, every creator just took the check and walked away from the projects cause of the changes they made during production. I was excited for the Avatar live action by netflix but when I saw the creators walked away from it as well and the number of already announced changes to the show, I'm expecting it to not be anywhere as good as it could of been.
@liprekt9 ай бұрын
I'm not worried about the og creators being not involved in the ATLA live action, as long as the current showrunners understood the cartoon. I think some of the stuff we've read re:changes have been misconstrued, like Sokka's sexism, and some just make sense, like Aang not riding the elephant koi near Kyoshi Island...because we really only saw the elephant koi for a minute during that episode -- they never appear throughout the cartoon ever again, so to me it makes sense why they wouldn't be featured. From the teasers, trailers, and behind the scenes I've seen, Aang still feels very much like Aang, hence I'm not worried right now. Also, have you seen the Avatar Spirits documentary back in the day? Even Bryan expressed that there were things he wished they did differently or turned out better, in other words he admits there's room for improvement, because ATLA was not perfect at all, coming from a big fan. We also have to take into account that the cartoons were contained in 20-minute episodes designed to keep children's attention (people like saying it was not a kids' show -- it definitely was, and there's nothing wrong with it being a kids' show -- it just so happened to also tackle mature themes), versus the live action's hour-long episodes. Because of these different delivery methods, runtime-wise, I expect remixes and modifications for a better-flowing storytelling.

The first season of the OPLA was easily the easiest one to adapt, and they still had modify considerable parts of it. For example, the Arlong Pirates have an octopus fishman as well as a sea beat, neither of which was included. That said, I think the next season.. and even the one after that are still completely in the realm of the adaptable. There will be some tricky aspects to pull off, but they are things movies have pulled off before so it shouldn't be a big deal. Even the sky islands (when we reach those) aren't too far out of the realm of possibility; it is mostly the problem of making things feel sufficiently tangible and realistic while remaining firmly in the land of the fantastical. I imagine a bit of an Alice-in-Wonderland-esque set dressing for a location like that. Based on the things I have seen in the live action, the thing that worries me most are the ocean-bound parts: they clearly used a gigantic kiddie pool in the first season and the water was almost without waves. This was actually an immersion killer to me, since that degree of still water should probably only exist at the Calm Belts, and oceans are always wavy. And in the Grand Line, I expect far fiercer waves at pretty much all times. When it comes to the parts of the world that worry me the most, it would be places like the Tarai Currents and that (w)hole area general, the place with the bubbles, FI and WCI. When it comes to the costumes, the places that worry me the most are the place with the bubbles, FI and Zou. And when it comes to how well they can pull off the story, the ones I am most worried about are definitely the cloud place, everything involving but especially the emotional conclusion of the moment not long before Garp is supposed to enter the picture, the place in the Calm Belt and the absolute mayhem that is the Paramount War itself. Everything beyond that is also a source of worry, but I feel at this point the show will be solidly in the 'one arc per season' part of the adaptation, and One Piece is nothing is not consistent about becomes far more complex in story the further it goes on, so the actual reliance on special effects will matter a bit less for the season to be good. (Although the biggest clashes will still be immense pains to do with CGI, but if they reach that far, I'm just going to assume they mastered the CGI-involved conflicts well enough to make it look passable.)
@Aviertje9 ай бұрын
In regards to the Grand Line being dangerous, I think there are two things that you ought to take into account. One is that the overall level is immensely more dangerous, but that doesn't mean every moment is more dangerous. You can live in Gaza or Ukraine and still have relaxing days without explosions blowing up your home and loved ones, and the same goes for the Grand Line. But beyond that, the Grand Line is still a location. The Grand Line is in many ways dangerous, but the danger can be very contextual. In Washington DC, you really don't want to piss off the wrong politicians, and in La Boca in Buenos Aires, you simply don't want to look remotely foreign. And all of that is just land, while the Grand Line is mostly ocean that is immensely unpredictable and filled with pirates doing whatever they want. Note that a story that only ever has immense danger will cause a reader to be desensitized to the danger. After all, the protagonists will scale along right with the danger, so why should one feel scared for them? Second, what is it that defines danger? The ocean is a scary place for a human to be lost in, but for a shark or whale, it is their backyard with almost no threats to speak of. Could there be a chance that Shanks is a big shark, or at least interpreted to be one by his surroundings? For him to be so deified by Luffy, surely his pirating capabilities will be above average for a seasoned veteran like him, right?

So yes, there is a reMASTER for the earlier arcs, but what the 2025+ anime is, is a complete reMAKE. They're going in from scratch and just remaking the WHOLE anime from scratch, the absolute madlads. While the current one is still ongoing. We are going to be consuming One Piece for another 25 years. XD
@liprekt9 ай бұрын
Other people here have said that the remake will tone down the fillers quite a bit, which is apparently an issue in the original OP (which is to be expected, because there's always that tendency with long-form anime when the animation tries to buy time for the manga to catch up).

We’ll be lucky if they even get to the mid-way point of the story in the live action series, and very little of the extensive world will ever be able to be shown. If the series is that intriguing to you, I highly recommend jumping into the show. Any react channel that goes over One Piece grows like crazy. One Piece fans LOVE to live vicariously through new audiences. But even if you aren’t ready to monetize your reaction, just watch/read it. Watching the One Pace fan edit is a good way to get through the story quickly in animation but you can’t beat the manga. You don’t have to quit your job to go through it unless you want to binge it all at once, which I don’t even recommend since the true beauty of it is the journey and not the destination. Those of us who are current in the manga are actually dreading the fact that we’re finally in the last saga which means it will have to end one day in the near future and we aren’t ready for that. But that also means right now is the last chance you’ll be able to get into the story without massive spoilers ruining the end, so what are you waiting for?
@liprekt9 ай бұрын
Haha About the job bit, I just meant that if I made reaction videos watching the OP anime, I might have to quit my job because of the amount of time needed to plan out, record, edit, and schedule the videos. If I just watched it off-camera, it's definitely something I can fit in my current schedule. However, right now I'm considering reacting to the first 44 episodes that cover the same ground as the live action. Two episodes per video might be doable.

It does look like my One Piece videos are getting all the attention. I put a lot of work in my first video for my ATLA rewatch because that was 3 episodes in one video, and right now it's sitting at around 60 views, which is so disheartening. Eheh But it does come with the territory. Had no idea the algorithm played such a huge role. The first 44 episodes of One Piece is what I'm heavily considering right now, for sure! Seems doable, editing-wise. And it only makes sense given that I've seen the live action that covers the same arc.

If the remake is good (which it will most likely be), I would recommend watching it to really cut down on total watch time to catch up. As great and immersive the original anime is, the pacing is terrible with a lot of padding sometimes. Also the early art style may not be very appealing to new fans. The remake will most likely tackle these issues.
