My understanding of the bosses is that they are there to test you (the soul of a dead warrior) to see if you are worthy of ascending to Valhalla, so presumeably they dont really die but move on to test other warriors. This is kind of confirmed by the fact that if you kill a boss. And someone new joins your server they can (and in fact have to) fight the boss themselves to progress in the game. So like even if yall friends the stag gonna fight you to help you ascend cuz like thats his job and hes not gonna make it easy cuz that wont help you prove your worth. #friendscanbattlegloriously P.s. love your videos! Its so interesting to see you come to thos stuff with fresh eyes!

You are getting good with the terminology. And yes Sandbox games are a whole genre. Sanbox means, you create basically your own adventure, rather than having an adventure written for you.
@HannaHsOverInvested3 жыл бұрын
Sandbox games.... put that in my glossary of terms haha
@Bronzescorpion3 жыл бұрын
That is not what the sandbox genre means. Lots of sandbox games have a fixed narrative. What sandbox games does is giving you the tools or options to carry out missions and goals in the way you want to do it. often you can manipulate the game physics to create creative solutions to the problems you face in the game. to try to sum up the definition of a sandbox, it would be something like this: sandbox: the degree of freedom a player has to use multiple methods to complete any task The main point about sandbox is, that there is no right way to play.
@Jangles_3 жыл бұрын
Much of gaming terminology refers to the rigidity of the storytelling experience. Is the game primarily narrative focused, as if you're being led through, on a leash? That could be referred to as "On-Rails", as with roller-coasters. The other end of that spectrum is usually referred to as "Sandbox", an experience akin to the notion of "Here is a fun area (often themed after a specific genre), and here are some toys... Use your imagination!".
@Bronzescorpion3 жыл бұрын
@@Jangles_ once again I would like to stress that the sandbox terminology is about the freedom in solving a task and not about the narrative. A good example of this is the Halo games, they literally had people labeled as sandbox designers, even though the games has a fixed narrative. The GTA series is another example, especially considering how it can change play, but not the narrative. In GTA 3 you could rig a bomb to a car before a mission started, if you had knowledge that you later would chase the target as he escapes in said car. Creative solution to the task of killing someone. The narrative stays the same no matter how you kill the target. In later GTA and in RDR2 you are restricted more, of you try to deviate from the intended play, you almost always instantly fails. Both examples have the same level of narrative, but they differ in freedom of completing tasks. The former GTA had more sandbox design than the latter.

nothing like cutting down a tree only for it to land on you lol A lot of these games trees don't really have any physics they tend to just break and you get the wood but Valhelm i was amazed at seeing a Tree fall naturally and realistically they can even knock down other trees knocking down a part of the forest lol Loving the game so far its small to download, pretty cheap, and with the graphic settings can run on any PC. The game is like a combination of Runescape and Minecraft its also in early access so there's still a lot of stuff for the developers to add this game will grow overtime just like Minecraft for example. You'll find some biomes which are not finished yet but still look cool for example the Ashlands a wasteland of fire and ash not located at the south of every map there's nothing really there at the moment.

If you're interested in some funny but in depth lore videos about World of Warcraft I highly suggest the channel "Platium WoW". He just released a 2 video series called "Warcrafts most incompitent King" and it is very well made. He tells the story as it is in the game, but he doesn't take himself overly serious so hes not afraid to make jokes. He has videos on many subjects in Warcraft lore and they're all good. Popular streamers stend to react to his videos aswell since they're so highly regarded by the community. I hope you check them out. Maybe just a stand alone video of his to start off and test the waters. I think it might peak your interest alot more than some of the later WoW videos you've seen.

Valheim, though released at the beginning of the month, is still considered "early access" meaning the game isn't fully finished (with respect to the content of the game). It was made by 5 people and since it's release at the beginning of the month it's sold over 5 million copies at $20 a piece. Q: What's the goal? A: The primary goal is to defeat all (currently) 5 bosses. Each boss will drop items that will allow you to craft better equipment, build better structures, and ultimately defeat harder foes. Defeating harder foes allows you easier access to more food options for more health points. There's a secondary goal of what ever goal you set for yourself. You could, perhaps want to unveil the entire map (each map of the world you're in is completely different from the next [unless specifically chosen]). Unveiling the map would take an incredible amount of time. Perhaps your goal you set is to build an amazing and wonderous viking village? Or to tame wolves and boars while creating a huge farm of crops so you and your group of friends wont ever have to worry about food ever again?

You asked if there's a bunch of games like this, where there's not a string of objectives. Yeah it's a whole genre, like Minecraft, Conan Exiles, etc... The "goal" is set by you, what do you want/need to do to survive and thrive. I am 95% sure they are just called survival games, where point is to fight against the world (and possibly other players) to survive. Valheim is mostly that, but in truth there is an over arching storyline and goal. Defeat the bosses of the realm and become one of Odin's favored warriors. This ultimately pushes you further and further into building bigger and cooler bases and upgrading your armor.

A lot of survival games have a progression mechanic where you start out with nothing. You find materials (in most cases this involves beating down a tree with your fists lol), craft your starter gear to get materials quicker, more armor to protect you and build a house. From there you find better materials, make better gear and upgrade your house as you usually start with wood. Valheim added bosses to that which is a great addition. For players like me, who love to explore, build and interesting combat, this game is fantastic.

My first survival game was ark survival evolved and up to this day haven't regret it 👌👌👌. Their are a few games like this but I prefer ark because it has a story and little clues to explain why everything is what it is all while you upgrade gear after gathering the essentials and taming a couple awesome dinos to help you get around heavily populated areas farther from your base full with dangerous beasts but greater resources but also new tames and potential tree house bases but if you prefer underwater ones that is possible too but would recommend subnautica instead its a different survival game but ocean based filled with mesmerizing bioluminescent life forms worth being chased by 😂 or getting your grub on

These survival crafting games have really taken off in the past couple of years. They are mostly co-op so they encourage people to play together rather than compete. There usually isn't a point or much of a story. The goal is to see how far you can get. How fancy you can make your base and how much of the world you can explore and loot. They are usually very tough games where you die easily so becoming good is it's own reward i guess.

A lot of survival games are part of the sandbox genre where you sort of define your own goals and it tends to be a creative activity foremost. Though there is usually a 'goal', it isn't necessarily the heart of the the draw. In Valheim, ostensibly, the character's goal is to fight the boss monsters to earn a place at Valhalla. The Bird thing carrying the person in the trailer is a Valkyrie carrying you after you presumably died in battle on Earth. But as the player, its mainly about learning to survive each environment. It is a game that is encouraged to be played with friends so you can build sprawling bases with buddies and have cooperative experiences. And yes, PVE is player vs environment. I would say the appeal of these style of games is an outgrowth of playing with legos as a kid. Building cool things and having adventures with them.
