I worked as a housecleaner most of my working life. I always felt pleased that I was doing much-needed work. My clients were deeply appreciative of the help. I especially loved working for families with young children, as they often clearly needed the help. As the same time, I have always loved cleaning my own home. I feel that cleaning helps me to be present with my home and to show it gratitude for all it gives me.

I buy a gallon of Castile soap every year. I use it for everything: dishes, I have foaming soap containers in kitchen and bath sits by the sink and I move it to the shower when I bathe. I use it as laundry soap, I make windscreen washer for the car, mop floors. I don’t use it on my hair, but I wash the dog with it because it’s unscented and tear free. I have switched to tooth powder which I make with betonite clay powder, raw cacao, baking soda and xylitol. I do the same thing with my kitchen brushes, except I found a stainless steel handle that you just slide the brush on to. I send twice as much to the heat composter than I do to the landfill. While some things are more expensive (bamboo dental floss) I buy so much less that I’m still ahead. You have really inspired me over the years! Thank you♥️ Can’t help with the toothbrushes, I’m still using my electric toothbrush 🤭

I clean my toilets daily and I 've since I was very young. I read a book by two ADHD mothers- they suggested a quick swish with a brush would keep the build up from hard water and mess from building up. It is so much of easier. I raised my two boys who are now 45 and 43 this mantra "Trash , Dishes, Laundry" every day of our lives! They grew to be good men and their families are minimalist and they inspire me! I fun to hear the old Mantra being taught to the grandkids! Something done daily is just easier to live with!

Fall gives me such renewed energy. We have very hot, humid summers so fall is a breath of fresh air. I do fall cleaning, just like spring cleaning, except that instead of welcoming regrowth and light, I focus on making things cozy and welcome for hibernation, rest and reflection. As a mom who raised 6 children, I have cleaned toilets and bathrooms everyday for 49 years, I must have being humble down to a science. Hi Niamh, I live with my mom, I have a degree and a bunch of specializations...and I clean my bathroom everyday 😊 I love cleaning the apartment, and for the bathroom I use powdered citric acid, vinegar, or a cheap toothpaste that'll make faucets shine! I worked as a cleaner for a while 7 years ago and I never felt humiliated, my clients were actually devastated when I quit my job, and asked me to please come back for a year. I always had the utmost respect for cleaners, they do one of the most important and often difficult job in the world (I'm thinking about hoarders' houses now) and I love deep cleaning! I spent this morning deep cleaning and I feel satisfied and happy. A big hug from Italy ❤

I totally agree!! We have hard water that can stain as we live in the wilderness of northern 🇨🇦. Like you, we have found that wiping down the shower after use leaves it shiny clean, and this cuts the scrubby-cleaning in half. I find I’ve always been inspired to do a full home deep clean both in spring and autumn for bookend purposes. For autumn it feels right to reset the home before you go into the winter when you’re prone to staying in more and want to make sure you’re setting your immune system up for the best chance. Obviously the spring again to reset after a full winter of heavy use. Obviously still cleaning the basic regularly like you say to remind yourself you’re a living being who leaves behind a life trail that sometimes needs scrubbing up after.

I love Dissolving rhassoul/ red Moroccan clay in some water in a reusable squeeze bottle, or in a silicone bowl and using it in my hair. It rinses out beautifully and takes the same amount of time as shampoo, I find. If I want to switch things up and use a shampoo bar, I LOVE Ethique's Bar minimum unscented shampoo bar. I use diluted apple cider vinegar infused with hair-loving herbs as my conditioner and do a last rinse under cool water. I'l put a little oil on the ends while my hair is still damp. Less soap scum to clean, less garbage to toss, and my scalp and hair have majorly transformed!

So satisfying to see your bathroom sparkle. Lately, I've been cleaning all the walls and dusting around and behind all artwork on the walls. It's so dusty! I've also cleaned the ceiling fans, which are now free of dust. It's nicer to breathe without dust motes in the air. My normal motto is that dust is a protective coating for your fine furniture. I could clean more often than I do. I use microfiber cloths along with vinegar, baking soda, and Castile soap to clean most everything. Everything smells fresher, which is to say there's no scent at all. PS - Happy to see the little fairy's glee with her bath toys. That's a satisfying use for a sparkling clean bathroom--to polish up your tiny fairy and help her sparkle ever more brightly.

How interesting that today’s video focuses on cleaning… the basis of which is water💦 As of last night we have no water. This is very humbling, indeed!! I’m not sure if the problem is our pressure tank, our pump, or the well itself. It was dark when this water problem arose, and since this will, no doubt, be a challenging day ahead we decided that a good night’s sleep was important. As we live in the wilderness of northern 🇨🇦, today will be a day of trouble-shooting at the well and the pumphouse. We are always learning as we go. Thankfully my partner is a great problem solver… this is a handy skill to have when living in the wilderness. It’s been incredibly hot and dry here all summer long; hopefully we can fix this problem quickly as watering the garden is important… so much of our food is rooted there. So… needless to say I won’t be cleaning the bathroom in the immediate future, but thanks for sharing all your great tips here in today’s video. Happy Autumn to you and your family, Niamh, and may you get some crisp and clear days forthcoming in September. Ⓜary💕💦🍁

@@jemma50 Hi there Jemma, thanks for saying Hello. Yes, I agree, being without water is not an easy thing… but at least it’s not -37º like the last time we had a water problem. Yes, this province is a hot, dry, smokey and flaming mess. Fortunately, I live in this little pocket of green, where we have had some rain throughout the past few months (unlike the rest of the province). I am not super-close to any of the fires but I don’t think there is a square inch in this province that has not been impacted by the drought, the wildfires, and the air quality. All that much more reason to live a sustainable lifestyle and conserve water. Thanks again for the well wishes, I hope the rest of your Sunday is relaxing and maybe with a little bit of sunshine too. Quick cleaning the bathroom everyday is so easy and feels so good. I do it as part of my morning routine. I spray the surfaces and then do what needs to be done ;) . I brush teeth then wipe the sink and counter down. Add a bit of cleaners to the toilet and let it sit then swish with a brush. A quick wipe of all the porcelain and done. A wipe of the mirror with a microfiber cloth kept under the sink for exactly that purposed. I also wipe down the shower walls and door every evening when I shower. I still need to deep clean it weekly but that takes much less time.

I recently watched the video stating that cleaning your toilet daily is a habit of successful people. I've also heard that baking soda and vinegar is what a biochemist uses for grout, one of my children researched that. I'm going to try it this week. I started using half the amount of laundry detergent as recommended and then a friend gave me her homemade laundry detergent recipe that is very inexpensive and no unnecessary packaging. I've enjoyed watching your videos.

I feel more enthusiastic about cleaning in spring. In autumn, I struggle with low energy, due to the shorter days and lower light levels. This time of year, I am more focussed on the garden, especially taking cuttings of plants that won't survive the winter outside. And decluttering inside the house to make space to bring all those cuttings in (there are a lot!!!)

I house clean deeply twice a year : beginning of spring and beginning of septembre. I remove everything just to help with fine vibs and a shiny sweet home, declutering and using natural products, of course. I love cleaning my bathroom 'cause I feel in peace with my beauty routine then. This is a place where I need to be without any dirt, surrounded by organic products: soaps, flower waters.... And my toilets must be shiny too😊I take care of my bathroom as I take care of myself. 🌟

I recently had cataract surgery on my eyes and realized I needed to clean my baseboards 🤣! And yes I do find myself this time of year doing that kind of cleaning. Washing down the doors and woodwork and window ledges and light switch plates. It did get quite hot here in Montana but in reality it was a brief month and a half. Still it slowed me down on cleaning much more than the bath and kitchen counters. I also use vinegar and water and a little of Dr. Bronner’s Castile soap in lavender scent. I use it with laundry soap sheets from Tru Earth to make everything smell wonderful. I am fortunate to have a friend who does cleaning for her livelihood and she does the floors and other things I can’t manage. I will be 75 in a couple days and just can’t manage it all. But we have a great time tackling things together. We’ve also had a lot of rain in the midst of the heat which has been so restorative…..very tropical and soothing. All the windows open and rain pouring down….magical.

We just moved to a new place end of May and I have been enjoying giving a thorough clean to my bathroom every Sunday since... I used to not like cleaning the bathroom but knowing that this is my place, there's something special about it! I also use water/vinegar with tea tree oil and baking soda! Your new bathroom is lovely! And I love the window!
@FairylandCottage Жыл бұрын
Isn’t the window cute. It’s wooden so we had to get a waterproof blind to use over it when showering

When I clean the house, I always begin in the bathroom. Somehow, it humbles me and gives me the proper mindset to finish the rest. I use one eco- friendly herbal cleaner for everything, even floors. I dilute it according to directions and put it into a glass spray bottle. The one bottle has lasted me over two whole years...amazing!

So lovely to see your little fairy at the end. She’s growing so quickly! I watched the same video about the Japanese and was also very inspired. I don’t look at cleaning my bathroom quite the same way after that! Have a nice month and I look forward to another visit soon. Take care, Niamh and thank you. ❤

Love the tip about soaking the shower head in borax! I have gotten into using borax in the last couple of years and always have it on hand now. Deep cleaning a bathroom is ultra satisfying for me - it's an effort to keep a head (bathroom) smelling fresh. Using natural products and doing a deep clean every week is the only solution I have found that works for us. I also use the plastic shoe boxes in the head and in many places throughout and have found it much simpler to pull out the whole bin than try and root around and find what I'm looking for. I love them for my larger first aid kits with the more extensive gauzes, bandages, first aid book and etc. I too love a deep Autumn cleaning - living on a sailboat it's necessary to do both Spring and Autumn cleans - although now that we have a household-sized dehumidifier on board and use it all throughout the winter my Spring cleaning is easier. My final note: I invested in a floor steam cleaner which can also be used as a handheld steamer and love it. If I want a scent I put a couple of drops on the pad and then it's just water in the tank. Pad is removed and tossed in the washing machine. So nice to see you again, Niamh, and thank you as always for sharing your journey and little fairy with us.

How do you find the dehumidifier helps with cleaning? We have such damp in our house. We have one but I think we need another. Can’t seem to shift the damp
@sailorgirl2017 Жыл бұрын
Hi Niamh, dampness creates a host of cleaning issues, particularly because the interior of the boat is mahogany. Although that is not the only issue, around aluminum framed portholes is a problem. Mostly for us it is washing down and dealing with mold, much like in a bathroom but everywhere for us. Using a dehumidifier, ours (Midea) is enough for a 1500 sq foot home, and keeps the bi-annual cleaning down to a bare minimum, especially after winter! Fall is the worst because we rely on open hatches for ventilation during the summer and of course, there is added humidity. Hope this answers your question. Cheers from BC Canada! @@FairylandCottage

I wanted to thank you for the bathroom glass cleaning tip. It worled like magic and all the stains were gone! 😊 Everyone was surprised at home.. We have been living in this home for past 13 years or so and lately the water stains had become a nuicance ..we had tried so many things ( including expensive chemicals) but nothing worked. I never thought of using the iron fiber mesh and now the door is like brand new❤ Love to the Little fairy ✨ Manisha

I agree with what you shared that we are facing with so much toxic around us, chemicals as well as ideas in endless forms. It’s important to go back to simple basic natural forms. I love cleaning the “throne”.
