I did multiple forex courses in the past which focused on chart pattens and never saw outcomes which reflected that trading them won a majority of the time. Some would win and some would lose. Basically giving the same odds as flipping a coin. Since listening to nonsenseforex I began back testing numerous indicators and as per VP's recommendations said goodbye to trendlines and chart patterns and focused on my system and now find more than 50% of trades are winning and because of VP's money management advice where you should take some profit off the table and let the rest run, my average profit is much higher than my average loss. VP has brought a breath of fresh air to the trading world. Love your work and always look forward to your next video. Like many we look forward to the next piece of the algorithm to be given.

I for one hate chart patterns. Really I do understand it was made by traders but not banks or the big players. Those patters occur mostly on lower timeframes because of so much volume at that specific point. I like your videos it helped my trading further.

Holy crap, I loved this video! I still have a laminated picture of chart patterns rolled up somewhere that I got from a guy as free download...just before he made his play to sell something. Damn if I didn't try to make this work but sadly, it only really worked in hindsight...like, "Wow! Lookit that awesome wedge/pennant/flag/ thingy...no wonder it broke up/down/went sideways! How could I have missed that. I guess being in the box as price unfolds makes it difficult to see the the shapes but even so, with the patterns of the bars, the bars themselves, and the various levels of every kind of S/R- there are just so many possible guesses. Yeah, I'm guilty of it all. Well, I gotta tell ya - I'm really starting to like making things easier for myself, like trend trading. No guessing. Let it come to you.

oh man, this really hits right in the feels... I remember when i first found out about harmonic chart patterns (bat, crab, butterfly, cypher and so on). It was the deepest rabbit hole i've even gone down to in my life. I sooooooo wanted it to be true and i kept at it, and i thought it was the secret to making it big in the trading world. Such a huge letdown and a huge time/money waster. Thankfully i realised it on my own a few years ago that none of that worked and dropped it altogether.

The only thing that I would consider to some degree to be a chart pattern that works with some consistency are breakouts from ranges or consolidation periods. I think that’s relative to this because our systems (at least my rough algorithm anyway) does not work well in a range. From some of VPs comments in other videos, I think that’s a good thing. The algorithm is meant to work in trending markets. Either way, the system should get you in on that trend once it breaks out of the range. As a side note, it would be interesting to see a video from VP about how he identifies ranges, like if he uses any additional technical analysis to do so, and what he does with that info. Hint hint . . . VP?

I know one pattern which always work: There is a tight, flat trading range for over 20 bars or so....I almost fall asleep by watching it (how boring) and suddenly (mostly at night, I´m german) between 3:30 and 4:30 am, a huge, sometimes, really gigantic candle appears out of the blue and very suddenly and fast into one direction LOL. I observed this very often, it is because I´m working nightshift as a health carer and I can spend some time in front of my laptop. No one ever told about this "pattern", because it is none, but it works!!! LOL. "It works" isn`t meant too serious. Of course one can take advantage out of this big move, if one is sitting in front of the terminal right in this moment. But when the move is over one has to flee immediately, because after the huge candle the blood bath follows haha. So this is scalping on high risk of course and no recommendation. I agree to all you said here about patterns. That is why I´m sick of reading this Al Brooks books now. Sometimes the patterns work, often enough they don`t work. There are always two options: Market breaks out above, or below....WE all KNOW this. This is what we always know: Market can go up or down (or sideways). I don`t need a pattern for this info. This two (three) possibilities are always there, no need for a pattern to tell us.

If you have any knowledge on market structure and have done your homework on when and where these patterns will likely occur, these patterns are extremely powerfull. Saying patterns are garbage tells me you dont have done any homework on this subject, for example just GBPNZD from end november until end december, i can point out multiple patterns if taken all would given you more then 1000 pips. Ofcourse there are lots of false patterns but if every pattern worked it would be to easy.

I still think its better learn everything including chart patterns. Good indicators work most of the time, but certainly not all of the time. Similarly, most chart patterns may not work, or may not work all the time, but that doesn't mean they never work. It doesn't hurt to have extra knowledge. We should know about good indicators, candle patterns, chart patterns, also news (yes i know), to increase the odds of winning. What important is to use these with caution. Keep the ears open. But your advice is certainly valuable and worth thinking about, VP. thumps up.

I'm a newbie forex trader and there aren't any known mentors in my country (Zambia) so glad I saw this video before I attended a forex workshop yesterday where a visiting 'multi millionaire mentor' gave a whole presentation on chart patterns perfectly working (in hindsight of course) trying to sell his perfect online forex course/signals. Since then I have literally spent hours testing different indicator combinations on multiple different pairs. This is to good to be true. I think I might have completed my first algorithm. Of course I will be tweaking it to perfection as I go here. But it’s a solid start. I don’t want to say what I have done yet, because I want to test it live first. I just very recently watched a video regarding chart patterns and in particular the bull flag pattern. It said that what is commonly referred to as a chart pattern is merely a consolidation in price. In the bull flag example price shoots upwards (the pole) then price consolidates ( the flag) and then breaks out of that consolidation and continues upwards. Regardless of what the pattern is or what it is called they are really just price consolidations in one form or another which I think is a good way to view them.

Even though I've traded patterns for a long time until finding your channel - I'm always reminded of a video Trader Dante made about how counter trading meme H&S patterns was one of his bread and butter money makers. Was a sobering moment since I then thought about all the times an H&S faked out the market. I will say that patterns are much more effective in stocks and especially crypto, but FS.... forget it. I learned quickly that patterns are absolutely useless in Forex very quickly. Trend lines also are shit for the most part. So many fake outs if you're trading them. If you have good money management, you can probably still do alright playing trend line breaks, but it isn't super effective. I've tried both ways for the last 7-8 months in FX. Hasn't been good. I'm now trying to put together some indicators via your system. I haven't backtested much yet, but just from the few I have combined that seem solid, they would've made a big difference in terms of losses.

The Fed did an extensive study on these and concluded they are no better than a random strategy. Just like you said, might as well flip a coin. But of course market maker brokers would love for you to use them. The Duomo initiative did an excellent video on why chart patterns are bullshit with a lot more information than this one. Pretty sure VP wouldn't endorse many of their other videos, but that one I can strongly recommend. Edit: maybe I should finish watching the video before commenting lol. Got it spot on though.

I tried like hell to resist VP’s method but no matter what other strategies I test out, nothing gives me the consistently profitable results like trading on the day chart. I’ve tried absolutely every single one of those chart patterns on every time frame for nearly every currency pair and metals but they flat out don’t work consistently. My algorithm of indicators have proven to be damn near undefeated. Even my losses aren’t catastrophic. I’m almost tempted to do live trading, however I’m patiently and diligently honing my craft.

You can’t just use patterns. You have to watch the real time behavior that comes with them at certain points. But you are right about how hard it is to see them fail in hindsight. You have to watch charts form in real time to get any feel for them.

I think money managment is key. Chart patterns work. Study he is talking about didn't take volume fundamentals or market conditions in consideration. You won't make any money if you trade every pattern that you see. You have to understand are there more reasons for pattern to work then just candle formation.

even before i found ur channel (which is by far the best forex trading way) through almost 10 years of trading the biggest and worst loses were when i do batterns,, simple or cypher, its all crab and fails like 90% of the times. however i think if a trader can find a way to use them to avoid bad trades (maybe like we use calendar to NOT trade when there is a news effects the market unpredictably.. would that be a bad thing? or total waste of time? always thanx for u VP,, great video .. cant wait for 28th's video :)

I have put together 3 indicators (ATR, confirmation and volume) on the EUR USD pair. In the end I got a win rate of 80%. My problem is that they do not work on other currency pairs with the same settings. Does anyone has the same problem or any tips?

Each currency pair has different players in it who trade different fundamentals interest rates gdp trade flow between countries. So if something works on one currency pair it won't work on other one.

This is probably the first time I’ve seen VP mis-state facts. There’s a guy online, won’t say his name but but I’m sure you know, he dedicated his life to getting PURE stats on patterns and candlestick formations and what he found was there were like 4-6 that work TIME AND TIME AGAIN. But then again, VP did say MOST people don’t do well with this, not it’s a fraud and a lie, I respect that. In the end still big fan! Whoop whoop!

The Duomo video on chart patterns sings the same tune as this channel. Found the study very interesting so dug a little deeper. Went through the short video series Duomo offers on Trading Forex.. What's confusing is that Duomo contradicts itself. It trashes chart patterns but then teaches it's members support and resistance areas, tendlines and fibinacci retracements as part of it's strategy. So how does that work?

no, it would lead to 66/33, you will have two lost trades for every won trade for 2:1 and 75/33 (3 lost for every won) for 3:1, otherwise everyone would trade flipping a coin just going with a 100:1 RR :) :)
