Hey, MVP (Mentor VP), I’m going to take a chance and ask a question here because I don’t think it’s worthy enough for an Ask VP. I’ve been pulling together my algorithm and am wondering, while back and forward testing, is it common not to hit your take profit within the first day? Or is that a sign the my indicators are getting me into a trade too soon?

Just wanted to followup on my own question. VP, I'm not saying that you knew you were going to answer it in your podcast, but ya did. Podcast 26, on counter trend trading, gave me my aha moment. I never knew I had tendencies of a reversal trader until listening to that. Now that I know that about myself, I have adjusted my eyes when it comes to my algorithm and have been seeing it work better ever since. So, thank you.

I can't tell you enough how appreciative I am for what you are doing here. I'm a "broken record" when it comes to this...I understand that you are not giving out your algorithm that you've spent hours, days, months, even YEARS working on. I understand why you wouldn't just give it out to us 'vultures'. You gave me a new and different way of looking at the markets. You pulled me away from all your 'dirty dozen' indicators. I was using those indicators with minimal success. You pointed me in the right direction. I am building an algorithm of my own per your help through these videos. For anyone reading this, all of VP's videos have helped me tremendously but the three MOST helpful to me were the MACD video, Volume (part one), and Volume Part two (this one). Thank you again VP. For all of VP's followers and guys wanting to learn the N.N.F way, I find this as a good information resource for volatility in retail spot. You can adjust to pips or percentage, (I find percentage most useful for my system) You also have each currency right in front of you to compare base currency in other pairs. (now note, that is NOT and should NOT be the deciding factor in the trade. The correlation is only relevant if the pair you are looking to trade is the ONLY one that the base currency is performing against, then you would look to the correlating quote currency for weakness in other pairs) So in summary this assists me in Volume/position size for a given pair and thus reduces my probability of a loss. When my monthly performance is the way I pay my bills and also keep my position within the firm, limiting losses AND limiting draw-down is essential. I do not have any margin/leverage to play with and there are no stops in my world, if I am wrong then I am wrong in a big way and I severely get my arse chewed. If any of you question VP and his methods, then you are in the 99% list.. The N.N.F way and VP, is the only way to make money in retail FX, EVERYTHING he says about the banks is true, EVERYTHING.. I am privileged enough to get direct feeds and view near close enough to the same information the banks get.. The below link is RETAIL information only... to know the bank information and how much volume there really is in the market, then learn, become great, and get picked by a large firm. Cheers VP.. My firm will not allow me to do what you are doing and I also am restricted in revealing identity of the firm. Kudos for the work you have put in here.. but in reality my 10years is almost up at the firm, and at 40 odd years of age, I have enough now to be done for good while my lovely wife and I enjoy retirement www.myfxbook.com/forex-market/volatility

Relevant points here, volatility in simple terms is telling you something is happening, you couple it with time, volume (if needed) and key points and you can start to build your strategy. This is why we base our strategy around volatility and created an indicator for this goal.

That's a good point. Looking back on when I first started learning.. The difference in definitions was hard to understand until I took some bad trades and had to understand why. Volume can create volitility, or it can smooth it. Can get caught up on that.. Or just call it "juice, gas in the tank," and have everyone look for the right thing. Subtle but important. Good job. The daily timeframe smoothes out most of the dangerous volitility where spread would kill you on a lower timeframe too. Little things no one told me when I first started. School of hard knocks.

Watching these again to brush up on my fundamentals. While $EVZ will vary over time (it's under 6 now!), an idea might be to use it as a barometer for how much to trade. Eg, look at the min/max values over a 3 year period, and scale up or down your position sizes according to volatility. Could also apply it as like an inverse ratio to the actual S&P VIX (on the premise that money flows into forex in times of uncertainty)

I’ve got a question; since FX is not a centralized market, the volume comes from the brokers i.e the amount of retail traders that are affiliated with that particular broker (right?). So if a volatitilty/volume indicator makes a move, doens’t it move because retail traders make a directional move (long or short)? But we know that ‘The Big Banks’ move price & I don’t think they are affiliated with a broker like we do, the retail traders. So how is a volume indicator useful then? Or do I miss something about this subject? Like VP says in his video’s ‘The Big Banks’ will take price the other way retail traders are trading, so let’s say for example if a volume indicator projects buying/selling pressure overtime, with a zero line. And the line is above zero which means ‘buying’, the big banks will see this I assume? and take price the other way, or am I incorrect? Which means that your volume indi is useless isn’t it? Bcs it only represents the buying/selling pressure of the retail traders, meanwhile big banks and institutions can take price the other way when they want. The volume indicators we use relate only to retail traders isn’t that true?

A bit confused by the line on the volume indicators. In the previous volume indicator video, you tell us to put a line on the ADX indicator, but you tell us ATR is a bad volume indicator because it requires a line. Additionally, a lot of volume/volatility indicators I've found also require that I put a line somewhere. Should I be looking for a two-lines cross or a chart volume indicator?
@yeliangarcia46234 жыл бұрын
But if you trade the daily chart then you would be expected to be in the trade for for days. You can not get into a trade today because the daily volatility was not going to close below 8 but that doesn't say anything about tomorrow or the next day etc. Likewise you can take a position because you saw one of those spikes as you got your entry criteria but then the volatility might drop off the very next day. I don't get it

I have what I hope isn't a stupid question regarding the volume/volatility relationship: If volume is strong, are we looking for high volatility or low volatility? Since volatility measures the "ups and downs," then high volatility means the direction is frequently changing, which would not bode well for trend traders. Therefore low volatility would be good. Am I looking at this wrong? Guess I am still not clear on how the two things inter-relate.
@johndoe58165 жыл бұрын
To further clarify, you absolutely need volatility (price movement) in a market in order to get anywhere. Without it we’d stay flat or get whipsawed all day. As I see it, a period of high IV (Volatility) and volume precedes a solid trend. So you are correct in your notion that it doesn’t technically spike during that trend. The high volume and IV spike typically occur just at the beginning of what turns out to be a major trend. then, as IV subsides, that trend continues to run on the ever-tapering volume much like the dwindling fuel in a rocket. Eventually the price rocket loses energy once the volume is all dried up and the price starts to apex or parabolically stagnate (theoretically). Based on those assumptions, you would theoretically only take trades whose trends appear to a) originate out of abnormally large volume spikes collocated with IV spikes (and they are typically collocated...rarely would you ever see a massive volume spike without a spike in IV) and b) still have some residual volume left to trade on at the point of entry. Hope that helped. Its just my interpretation. I’m sure there are some that might disagree with me here but it is, so far, the best way I’ve been able to view the markets in terms of volume and IV.

VP this tool is like using the VIX for options trading. If you're familiar with the way IV (Implied Volatility) works this will all make sense. On that same note, it's in a way like market sentiment. Best way to use the $EVZ is by using the comparison tool on the website. To use it just change the chart type to linear and then, using the comparison tool, input the pairs you're looking to trade and it'll show which whether you should be on you bullish or bearish trend. Or if you're looking to get in a trade it'll help just the same. Like I said, it'll all make sense if you're familiar with IV. VP again you just gave traders another invaluable tool that they could have in their trading arsenal! If they're not using this tool they're insane! This should definitely be tool #7 in the algo!

Hey brother, I've been watching your videos and listening to your podcasts for almost a year now And I love your content. Although I am having difficulty understanding this tool. In this video you explained how the ATR would have to tediously be adjusted, if i use the Bar chart to read volumes of other pairs wouldn't I need to adjust it as well?
@jordannelson86465 жыл бұрын
love ur stuff and dont know if youll answer, but I see volatility and volume as two separate yet complementary things, high volume/low volatility as a sign of stability, low volume/high volatility as possible reversal or just crazy shit. So my question is, if you decide to use a volatility indicator, wouldn't it almost make more sense to be trading when there is low volatility rather than high, because volatility doesn't represent volume?

Volume Profile indictors, Volume PriceOfControl (VPOC) is great imo. Works with high and low volume nodes and a price control range. But so far only found expensive ones. Some MarketVolume experts do about the same, but lag quite a lot. Any comments on this indicator VP ? Thanks so far for sharing all the wealth of info.

Can you effectively add an EMA/SMA to the ATR? That way you don't have to move a level line manually.
@lpburke862 жыл бұрын
THe line isnt what matters on the ATR. Only the number. The ATR is already a SMA if youre looking at the line, but the ATR number only matters at entry.

What do we set for the zero line cross for other type of volatility indicator? For example, ADX, we would have ADX 25 as a zero line crossing to determine volume. How about other type of volatility indicator? I was going through other volitity indicator and the range was like 93-408. So a zero-line crossing at 25 doesnt make much sense. Any guideline how do we setup the zero-line crossing? Do we actually just get the mid point of the range but that would have invalidated all my confirmation indicators, all the time, everytime. Thanks.

watching this video and the first volume video many times will make you realize that Volume indicator should really be on the number 1 spot, should be on top of your indicators. "No Volume No Trade" no volume go to your next Pair, no need to check other indicators. Volume indicators i'm still checking are Waddah Attar Explosion and candle volatility index. pls let me know which is more reliable and if you have other free volume indicator. thanks

HI VP. I have went through your channel but one thing I was confused with is how to test a volume indicator. Currently I am using the onbalance volume indicator with a 20EMA however i am missing some potential winning trades therefore I am asking is there any possibility that you can put like an example of any volume indicator and show us how to test it please?
@josecarlosxyz4 жыл бұрын
Some traders like to win and some traders like to argue. I prefer to have money in my pockets regardless the strategy if it’s ugly or pretty I don’t care if it give me results I’m fine. People argues more than practice the strategies they should test first
