I came across a slightly dated book called, "Trading for a Living" by Dr. Alexander Elder (1993) as a podcast while driving. I had heard of it in my travels and was fortunate to come across it again. The book's primary focus is psychology, trading tactics and money management. Some of the technical aspects described in the book are somewhat antiquated as the nature of trading had a different appearance in the early 90's, but the psychology portion rings true and is alive and kicking today. The whole book can be heard in exactly three hours. The reason I mention it is based on your comment. In the book, Dr. Elder states that traders need to trade well, not often and not to worry about the money. If you learn to trade well, the money will follow. He does not mince words why many traders are "losers", discussing rational versus irrational behavior which sets a profitable trader from one who will eventually fade away. It's kind of a wake up call. I thought about some the illustration VP makes in a couple of the videos about removing just one losing trade per month can make a big difference and a trader that is break-even is not only financially far ahead of one who is net negative but psychologically, is in a much better place.
@FREEDOM-w5x5 жыл бұрын
@@danstone3673 Trading in the Zone by Mark Douglas. Is another great book that many professionals have on their shelf and a must have in any serious traders office. Its groundbreaking psychology in that each trade is different from the last and to never get attached but detach your mind from each trade and concentrate over series of trades in the art of Probability Trading. 50/50%. If your loss to win ratio is above 50% and even higher over a set of trades say: 75% wins 25% losses in 6 months, over the long term your are a profitable trader. Its tells you to trade against the crowed and learn sentiment trading "dumb money vs smart money", to build a system around higher win probability trading in back testing and forward testing, to trust then your own system, to be a contrarian trader "buying when their selling, Selling when their buying", never believing mainstream hype were 99% losers trade but what the 1% winners do: defining your "edge", risk and money management, psychology through probability and therefore you will be in the professionals call "Trading in the zone". Warren buffet, the greatest investor said: " Be fearful when their greedy, be greedy when their fearful". Trading for a living by Dr Elder. Alexander (1993 ) and Trading in the zone my Mark Douglas, these two books alone, changed not only my life, made my dreams come true, but cured my depression, fixed my relationship " money wise " gave me a better outlook in life and made me feel ill be extra honest "elite" as only the top 1% of any society can trade consistent over the term term.

So I know I'm a little late to the party but I just want to thank you VP for putting up all this information so a lot of people can trade the right way and finally start turning their accounts around, you definitely turned mine a whole 360. In relation to this video it was frustrating for me to look for a good volume indicator because there simply weren't as much of them to find compared to the confirmation and exit indicators. The few that were there barely gave some information if any at all (just volume comparisons with the previous candles and a simple line moving through the screen), but I recently came up with something that looks to be pretty good at determining if volume is there or not. You take an OBV or an On Balance Volume (I knew it couldn't stand alone because I couldn't edit it's parameters) and then you put it together in the same indicator chart with a 20 period simple moving average. If the OBV line's above the MA then the volume's there for your trend. Found this pretty recently and still requires a lot of testing, but it looks promising. I hope this somehow helps other people in their search for a good volume indicator for their algorithms.

The best time to enter: when the volume comes under the desired line going above the desired line. = because banks like low volatility while retail traders love high volatility. Check your other confirmations if it agrees with all your conditions. The moment the banks starting entering the volume increases and retail traders will notice it and they will join the parade. be part of that early majority. grab it and go get it! :) don't be a laggard.

The ONLY thing you can control in trading is how much you lose. Knowing that kinda changes how ya look at things, huh? Since learning this, thats almost all I focus on when putting on a trade. "How much will I lose if this goes against me" is the main question I ask myself. THEN its TP 1 at ATR
@MrSerella5 жыл бұрын
So you are limiting your profit potential? Ive only been using a demo platform for about 6 weeks but from about 3 days in i soon realised that TP really makes no sense. Of course SL and TSL do and i have leaned more to the TSL. I don't really think i have developed a strategy yet though im working on it but I do tend to use the TSL like this: Set it as tight as i dare so as to not get stopped out based on how much price is changing, then I will reset it once im my pip count is up, if im say 20 pips up I will make my TSL wider to a point where I will still make 5 to 10 pips if things go against me. Bottom line, the trade plays nice or im out and move on.

You can be a little more generous Robert Smith! If you really do have something useful then by sharing your information you are helping other traders who just can't seem to find what they need. What goes around, comes around. Just remember how much VP has given all of us freely without ever asking for payment. If you share then you won't recover the time you spent but you may just save others a huge amount of theirs. And your profits will not suffer either! May your goodwill increase your profits exponentially :)

Yo yo yo VP, I got to say it's taken two years but i finally learnt to trust my system, and not let my Emotions take the helm. When you have a system any time frame is accessible, the day chart is paramount the best. I read a blog on a trader who was relying on FIB, was cautious about a trading AUDNZD FIB was against the trade. I looked at the PAIR on my system, where he was cautious i could of made a 200 pip over five days, if was invested in the trade. Please do a video on the current affairs with markets at the moment. Oh Yeah forget motivation, just be committed it pays off. Thanks VP

Place your favorite Volume/Volatility Indicators for all to see by replying to this comment. I should have included Volatility Indicators as well. Both achieve a similar result. It's all in the same family. This should open things up a bit.

Volume indicator with an 260 SMA on it, as a filter....wait for 3 or 4 volumes below this line, than wait for the volume breakout....😕😯

I never used volume in forex as I always thought that the value was flawed as there is no central forex exchange, like say nyse for stocks. Will give it a try though. I am assuming that my volume numbers are coming from my broker?

Hi VP, I've found my way to your channel (after so many years!) to find out about portfolio risk tolerance (ie what % of my account should be at risk as a maximum total across all outstanding trades)...and it somehow took me to this to this. Not complaining...as a result I now use the Money Flow Index as my volume/momentum indi (with some very good confirmatory results). Even after so many years, your channel is a very good lookup/reference resource, that stands the test of time. Thank you! (ps - still not sure what the answer to my portfolio risk percentage question is...ho hum...)

In total, I don't think it matters a lot as long as you don't over leverage in one place

this explained to me why I keep getting kicked in the teeth. I didn't take volume into account when trading even with the trend.

Thanks again for such an informative video. Will be keeping my eyes open for next weeks video to see what suggestion you have for a volume indi. Keep up the GREAT work you are doing for all struggling traders and newbies out there. You have opened our eyes as to how to win in this game, or at least how to minimize the losses, and i certainly appreciate all you do. I was blind but now i see...What a difference you make to Forex trading...

1. Take the volume. 2. Factor in the price on it. 3. Make it a 0-line oscillator. 4. Convert it in to a stochastic. 5. Apply inverse Fisher transformation on it. 6. Smooth the oscillation by a zero-lag in-phase quadrature filter. 7. Filter the generated signals by a Hilbert final filter. 8. Add a double-line cross to the output, adjusted by the ATR. 9. Color-code the 0-line with a secondary confirmation indicator of you choice. 10. Now you have something which can be used as A) Volume Indicator, B) Main Confirmation Indicator, C) Exit indicator, D) Volatility Indicator/Trailing Stop loss. Nothing can beat it ;-)

Great advice, your channel has really made a difference in my trading. I went from "just winging it" to having an actual plan and the difference is night and day compared to the garbage I was slinging before hand. Also the search for a good volume indicator was extremely frustrating for some reason. For the life of me I just could not find one that worked for me. Being a programmer this frustration actually worked in my favor and really had me step my game up and hours of backtesting, hundreds of lines of code later I've come up with some excellent results. I can't thank you enough for the information you have provided and I look forward for the next videos.

To be honest, VP, you give structure to my forex journey and is the best thing that's has ever happened to me. Having something to test, to check and to watch is totally what people who is starting needs. More often than not that's the main reason why most traders don't succeed Because they are trying multiple things but without proper research and recording results. Thank you.

The ADX does not take volume as an input to its calculations, so its really not a volume indicator, although it is often used to filter out entries as in the video.

Exactly. I don't understand how something can be considered a volume indicator if trading volume is not used in its formula. Another pet peeve of mine is how traders call certain indicators "momentum indicators" when they don't include volume in the calculation. Physics says Momentum=Mass X Velocity. Mass in trading is trading volume.

I didn't think Forex had total volume as its decentralised. Unless you're looking at the big institutional clearing houses (like CLS) which might give a large section of the total volume. I think you can pay for the data. Most volume indicators will be the volume traded by that broker or data provider. love the videos by the way, it's making me tighten up my strategy and not hold onto losing positions. :-)
@fijidreamer40065 жыл бұрын
If you consider your broker's volume then you are making trades (or not) within the parameters of the activity that MOST QUICKLY impacts your trades...and that is the other trades your broker is making/taking. You are right, it isn't the TOTAL worldwide volume figures that you are seeing, but it is the volume that impacts you most significantly. The remaining volume activity is accounted for in price...there is no way to do it where that info isn't lagging. So for that reason, I wouldn't spend almost $2,000 a month on CLS anyway, but I certainly wouldn't spend it unless I was already taking into account my broker's volume! Great comment, I bet a lot of people need to revisit the actual Forex system.

set up a little window with TICK speed in the top corner of your screen. when it starts moving at speed to going mental, volume is picking up right there and then in real time. It takes no time to get used to and does a sound job.

Best Volume Indicator sits between you ears, and on the left and right of your nose. If you want to go 2 waves down, make sure there are 4 waves up and versa. That is the true volume. Banks just place orders at specific levels when enough volume is reached. It's their game. So the answer is your Eyes!

I predict fresh Supply & Demand Zones to be used for entry & exit - so you don't diddle in the middle. Once you are in the zone the other indicators give you a more precise entry / exit.
