I like the versatility you have in your mechanical skills. A master mechanic. The videos are entertaining to watch. You just don't work on cars but all kinds of vehicles. I been watching for almost 2 years. And not disappointed at all.

If MIT had a Shop Class called Reverse Obsolesence 101: Good Schematics,+ Honest Diagnostics + The great Work ethic & curiosity to see problems to solutions. AKA Repair almost anything. Chris would be guy to teach it. I would really like to see channel do custom EV conversions, get that home & barn shop land on something affordable but spacious, get a water table and/or 3d printer for custom parts for made in USA. That said, when you gonna do a barge or car ferry boat? A Sailboat that takes show international? I wonder what barn/lighthouse finds you might find off Greenland, Canada, or especially Cuba. Because of the former embargo Cubans took to maintenance and restoration of mechanical constructs to an art form. They got Taxis from the 40s and 50s still running a 12hr work day. Would be funny to see NNKH team seeing cars or even engines of classic infrastrucure, in awe, of their still running and some even in pristine condition. A "how the #%$@ is this thing still going" regular piece where commentors can suggest sites. NNKH goes and checks it out, stays politely glib, viewers can posit theories in comments and then youtube famous engineers and scientists do cameos and offer most probable explanations. I have no idea who could afford to pay for all that. But I would watch it. I get it if yall stay local 😊like a garage band though. Too many soups, cooks, chiefs, and all that. Great videos. (:

Chris, I have an '89 chris craft cavalier with the EXACT same drive combo / 3.0 merc and alpha one drive. It's an amazing setup for cruising around the lake, bulletproof, and great on gas. Bought my boat sitting for 4 years and basically gave it the same work you did- mine needed a new ignition setup, anti siphon valve, fuel pump, carb, water pump impeller, starter, and other small odds and ends. These motors are a dream to work on and the block originated from a 60s GM design. If you ever struggle getting the lower unit installed, inspect the condition of the copper water pickup tube and housing. They can become swollen or melted from previous overheating and not let the lower unit seal back together. Can be an absolute nightmare, took me like a week to figure out. You accomplished the same amount of work I did in about 10x faster... LOL. It was my first time working with points so great learning curve. Enjoy that boat!

Chris and Jen, I have to say it is a total pleasure watching 2 people who love life, and each other. I enjoy learning from you and see the life I could have had without the hiccups I had decades ago. I rebuild a bayliner much like your trashliner, it had a Volvo Penta engine and outdrive with a rotted out interior, it was a fun project and expanded my marine knowledge, became a marine mechanic, well was certified but never went down that road. Your jeep reminds me of my favorite car I had, a 1965 Buick skylark, 4 door, rusted out floors, and trunk, and a weak suspension, I was working for an electrician at the time and bottomed out the car so many times I put a hole in the gas tank, repaired and kept another year, fast, light and fun to drive. Anyhow, rebuilt a few Honda motorcycles. Watching you guys brings back memories. Keep smiling and keep going, Jen you have a beautiful voice and a personality any good man would love to have by his side. Sorry for the long email. Gus, Leo and Turbo along with the chicks are the hoot. Jim

As a little boy my Dad was very Handy withCars and he showed me the Points Trick with a Matchbook he told me always keep one in your glove box the Striker strip can be used to Sand or file the contacts , the thickness of the Cover should be good enough to set the gap as a thickness guage or Feeler and most of the time that will get the Vehicle running well enough to get you home or to a place you could do a higher quality repair i drove a older MGB with Points for 14 years and several Aircooled VWs and i did use that “trick “ a few times my MG i converted to ElectroniccIgnition eventually as Allison made a simple Conversion Kit for the Stock Distributor set up

I'd say this ole' girl is really under-powered... but I like a little HP with my boats, and I know Chris & Jen don't care. Like he said.. this one isn't about straight out speed. It's a cruiser, with a nice little cuddie on it. I suppose the 4 cylinder will do, and they can have some serious river fun with it! Can't wait to see it on the river this summer!

Sometimes algae builds up in the check ball on the fuel sending unit. You can take them apart and clean them up and it usually fixes the issue of no flow from the tank . And I have a Volvo Penta v6 and omc out drive in a 1996 20 foot Sea Arrow. It's a center console setup. Pretty rare not many around the model is a V 200, and you are right about the impeller pump being easier to deal with. I love that boat it's definitely worth saving. People knock on inboard/outboards but I love mine. Yeah they take a bit more work to maintain but I really like the rear space and the torque of the inboard. Mine is a Volvo Penta v6 4.3 but it's been rebuilt with higher compression and a bigger cam and has a 4 BBL Holley carburetor on it . I have some videos up on my KZbin.

Great video as usual! A pump-up yard sprayer works great for the gear oil. That vent hose on the fuel pump is for safety- it directs the raw fuel into the carb in the event of a diaphragm failure.

love the channel another easy way to install the impeller is to put the impeller in place and put grease on it, then push the housing straight down and spin (the propper direktion) the drive shaft or propeller when in gear and the blades on the impeller will fix it self.

You did a great job but were totally wrong at 55:55 regarding the water coming out of the exhaust bellows. The water cools the exhaust and exits in the prop's hub. Right now you are blowing exhaust into the path of the propeller causing cavitation. The exhaust at idle will come up and ☠ you. I think you got everything else right. One other thing. That split in the hull will let water in and the foam will soak it up. It will never dry up. The weight of the boat will increase a lot. The engine will never reach it's full potential. I'm going to say they added a Whale Tail because they couldn't get the boat to plane. Take the boat to a scale and get it weighed. Rip out the entire deck and install a new one. Fix the hull from the inside when the deck is removed. Those seats are common seats and inexpensive. Stainless steel threaded inserts can be installed in the deck so the seats can easily be removed. Install a bilge pump. At 8:52 you called those Anchor Lights "all around lights". Those lights are to only be illuminated while anchored never when drifting or running. I love that boat. Fire extinguisher's gauges always get stuck in the green position even if the air leaks out. Ok I like how you lined up the valve stems with the dot on the tire. I like the light on the engine cover that lights up the floor. I don't like the rollers on the trailer. I like the engine size. You will save gas. I suggest running the engine at full but don't let it exceed 2000 RPM for very long. Adjust the RPM at full throttle by changing the prop's pitch. Now run the boat wide open and note your max speed. You should have Max Speed @ 2000 RPM. This will change depending on the lakes altitude because the water might be lighter and the prop won't grab the same. It's always good to have a spare prop, best to have a different pitch just incase.

Quite a find Chris! Jen has her work cut out for her (and I bet Gus finds some "treasures"). The check valve in the fuel pick-up is an anti-siphon valve, required by USCG/NMMA. Stops fuel flow in case of a break in line between tank and engine. Crack on hull bottom is a concern! Given the motor mount being rotted, hull structure could be rotted. Foam could be soaked, too. (a la Bayliner) Fuel tank was lose? I believe Raven Boats was in business 2 years, 1989-1990. I am a marine industry engineer, lmk questions. A past Ford Elite owner and a multi-time dacshy owner, I really enjoy the content. (Ever find a Chrysler Funster for sale post it!)

The squealing noise from the transmission is the pilot bearing. I have three Square Bodies with the SM465 and they’ve all done it at some point. You need to change that pilot bearing SOONER than later, if you wait too long it will groove the input shaft on the transmission. Not a big deal to change it and inexpensive.

I actually owned a Raven Countach. 350 v8 alpha drive 21.5 cuddy. The best boat I ever owned. Loss during divorce. They only made them for I think 3 years. Mine on alum prop did about 55 top end. Switch to Stainless and topped put at about 70. Scarry ride at 70 as it was like no boat in the water. Excellent hull design. Nice lines on it. 1988. If I could find another I probably would buy it. Would run 40 knots not breaking the bank. Like third to half throttle. 55 gallon tank would last forever unless you went full throttle. Then you could watch the gage drop by the minute.

Hello - I like videos like yours but just a little heads up on a couple items. There are new regs for fire extinguishers and engine cut off switches. I am a vessel safety examiner and fire extinguishers have to be replaced 12 years from the manufacturing date that should be on the fire extinguisher. There has to be an engine cut off lanyard attached to ignition that can be attached to life jacket in case of man overboard etc. I use to love working on my Bayliner Cabin Cruiser but I too had bad back needing multiple surgeries so I sympathize with the original boat owner and veteran. You might want to update video with the new information to keep boaters safe. Not alot of boaters actually know what they need to pass a vessel safety exam - I do them for free with our squadron.

You remind me of myself ,saving good hose clamps and being excited about it! My wife hated ZIP ties when she met me , I got 100s from a friend , and now she knows that they are a necessity!
