What makes it worth even more is that fact that it's a station wagon .( Which in my youth would have been considered garbage lol) I just wished I'd have kept at least 2 cars from my childhood.

Are you kidding me?! Quality didn't matter back then. It was all about style. Body panels didn't fit right. Paint faded. Rust took over. Why do you think 8 year old cars were parked in fields? Seen many "barn find" videos of 1970 Chevelles left to rot in 1978. My 2004 Ford F150 has 260,000 km on it and still going strong. I'm tired of people saying quality was better back then. I agree today's cars are much more complicated, but you were always working on them back in the 60's and 70's. Points, spark plugs, wires, timing, carburetor, etc. Fun if you like that kind of thing, but most people don't. FYI, I have a '65 Impala SS. :)

Such a great story about Leo and his siblings! When my brother and i were very young we found a naked baby robin on the ground under a tree behind a car's tire.. she was just about dead, probably the runt.. anyway we took her home, to the vet etc, they said she wouldn't make it a week.. well.. 8 years later, Haro Star the Robin (she had a bald head hear entire life but full feathers and all) lived in our dining room.. Most awesome, loving bird ever.. she was super friendly, clicked if she was angry, nuzzled all day if you let her... anyway, rescue life is a great life!!

I worked at a commercial shop 15 years ago. I watched my boss gag a F600 429 with a folgers coffee can. Fit perfectly over the Holley 4 barrel. Anyways, he was leaned way over inside the engine bay gagging the snot out of it with the can and it backfired one big belch of flames. He jumped out with his beard and eyebrows smoking. Took me 15 mins to stop laughing.
@NoNonsenseKnowHow
@NoNonsenseKnowHow 2 жыл бұрын
Lol, that's great! I've had them back fire on me before but never any insane flames like that. I can see why a coffee can would do that though. The vapors and fuel probably built up inside of the can and then when he lifted it and it backfired, all that fuel ignited and exploded in the atmosphere. Definitely more dangerous with the coffee can. Especially since it could throw shrapnel if it exploded.

That linkage you disconnected on the carb that goes to the transmission is a kickdown lever. When you punch the throttle, it's supposed to actuate a valve to drop the tranny down into lower gear for more power. I know these new fangled cars do it by computer but back in the day, downshift for power was done with this kind of linkage or a cable and sometimes vacuum. And that frame was standard issue on full size GM cars of that era. It was called the "X" frame. They went to a perimeter style frame in 1966. Nice old car.

Hey Chris! New subscriber here. Really cool video. You are truly a great car guy and mechanic! Your videos are a pleasure to watch. Takes me back to my younger days in Frederick MD where I grew up with Chevys and Fords. My parents had a '64 Belair 4 door sedan with the 283 2 barrel powerglide. Dad was a volunteer fireman and we ran fire and accident calls. He took me with him when I turned 10 to be his navigator. Taught me how to read a map, and some times we'd beat the fire truck to the scene. Dad would pull out "on the feeway" and mash the gas pedal, saying " throwing the fat to it". The power glide would kick down and that 283 would fly!! 0 to 70 (speed limit at that time) in a heartbeat! And the sound!! Just as when you nailed it. WOW, what a thrill ride. Lost my dad in 1985' he was 52, I was 26. He started me working on cars at 12 years young and I am so greatful for his wisdom he passed on to me. Anyway I hope this classic finds a nice home or maybe you should keep it. I hope you do a follow up either way, and can't wait for your other classic car finds! Take care and happy holidays!

Man I’m glad to find this channel. I love your organization. I have a small garage that sits on a hill. It is not ideal for working on cars but with good organizational skills it works. To bad I don’t have that 😂. Great video and definitely a new subscriber!!!

I was about to go on a trip and needed a car to drive. I found a 1966 Chevy wagon for $100 at a local used car lot and started on my 800-mile destination. The car burned oil so badly that I couldn't see behind me most of the way - the back end was dripping oil. It must have been getting 100 miles to the quart. I bought a case of oil before I left and it still wasn't enough. After negotiating hairpin curves in the darkest reaches of West Virginia, I finally reached my destination - North Carolina. As soon as I parked the car, my sister wanted to borrow it to go to the store. The moment she pushed the brake pedal the brake line blew. I'm thankful that the brakes held going up and down those steep 2-lane hills in West Virginia just 12 hours earlier. Talk about a close one.

I put a set of autolite plugs in my truck last year, only time I've used them in a car application. Got 2500 miles on the set and had one stop firing at idle. Tested resistance and it had 4 times the resistance of the other 7 plugs. It was very clean and looked just like the rest of the plugs color wise. Back to NGK no problems.

Your vids are the best. Love this old Chevy. Judging by the steps on the rear bumper I’m guessing it’s a 9 passenger ? This will be a cool restoration. Can’t wait to see what you find next !

You know, a good little hack is to buy a few of those boat primer bulbs in various sizes. And then you can use it to draw the fuel up from the tank at the fuel pump so you dont have to waste a battery cranking. A roadside service guy showed me that one

My second car was a 1962 2 DR Hard Top. I used to run it without any mufflers too. The sound of that 327 was exactly the same as my 283. It brings back old memories both good and bad and every neighbor after my hide. Lol. I was a teen at the time and didn't know any better, but sure like the sound of that engine, especially the back thrust. You'd better be careful or you could end up the same way.

Well the 327 sounds pretty darn good. I wonder if that is one with the big valve fuelie heads "double hump" on the front of the head indicates that. The transmission has just two forward speeds, it is a "powerglide transmission". I am glad that you checked the firing order as a lot of do it yourselfers will get the order messed up when changing the distributor cap or spark plugs. I really liked the 327 and the 283 small block , they were an awesome engine. Thanks for the awesome video and thumbs UP to you Chris.

The 327 is my favorite engine. 300, 325,345 I think and the 365 hp and Corvette I believe had the 375 hp in a few.

That old girl, believe it or not, is in better shape body-wise than my 97 GMC Sierra 🤯🤯🤯. My GMC is completely ate out with rust in the rocker panels, and the wheel wells. And I mean completely ate out!!!! They just don't make them like they used to.

25:49...Yep, the floorpans are great, esp for a NE car. But dude, if you wanna keep 'em that way, you gotta run that exhaust all the way to the back. You can see that short pipe is starting to darken up the floor with exhaust soot. Future exhaust leak through the floor if you don't. 27:14...Kudos to you for stopping to set that water supply cap right! Most people would not notice or care if they did. That could have caused an accident! 40:40...Niice drone footage and music at the end!

Great to see a car rescued, I have a big car collection, I just told someone that I hope I'm not holding up a Realty site saying well this country still has gas pumps I've got to move to that country and leave America to be able to enjoy my car collection. Good to see you save animals I spend more on dog food than my own food.

I have a squirrel that we got in Florida right around 1 week old he is now 10 years old. Peter decided to stay with us he would go play out side but always came back. A Hawk was trying to catch him so that ended his tree climbing outside I tried everything to get him to stay outside but he would chew on windows trying to get inside lol.
