Mexico truly is advancing like never before with their massive infrastructure projects, there are impressive things being built all over the country.. whether that is trains, cable cars, metro systems, roads, bridges, airports, shipyards, skyscrapers i mean there’s just about everything and also the inter oceanic corridor which will be the best alternative in the American continent from the Panama Canal. I’m so happy because i know for sure within a matter of a few years México will mean something else. Definitely no comparison in Latin america… now speaking of The mayan train, the one that you showed us is the Standard train, the train thought ideal for short trips and/or for locals mostly, the more luxurious trains with restaurant and VIP cabins are coming towards the end of this year… and the special trains for long trips (with sleeping Cabins with bathrooms) are coming next year. @@NonstopEurotrip as a Mexican I can tell you that we nationals get to pay a lower price for the Tren Maya services. It's on the official website, you can check it. You just gotta show an official ID to the staff in order to get them. And the discounts are even lower for people from the 5 states where the train runs: Chiapas, Tabasco, Campeche, Yucatán y Quintana Roo. We apologize for the inconveniences, at the moment, the prices are set as expressed due to interstations not being available yet, thus there's is a full price charge to the immediate next open station, you are not able to see the prices that will apply to shorter distances yet,, most people who are doing the trip as nationals do understand this factor and are only using it as is because it suits their needs exactly,, the price is supposed to go down with the distance each person travels as soon as those other stations open, as some sort of compensating it was decided to not establish a differentiated rate for nationals and foreign travelers, that will change as soon as all the stations are ready, these are not hard or slow to build, what was hard is already done, also I'm not sure it's been solved but the ticket sales system wasn't ready to be in business, thus a third party seller is being used and it has a very stiff set up in order to make it affordable, meaning they only sell the national rate to all and no differentiation between handicap, elderly,student,etc discounts, thus it seems dumb at the moment but it's all on track to become a very well used piece of infrastructure, ,as mentioned, what was hard is already done and this hiccups will be ironed out soon, we thank you for your patience

Hopefully in this state it remains viable enough to not only keep operating, but to maintain interest in improving it, as was was mentioned or alluded in the video, with faster trains, better interiors, WiFi, better value, or maybe even big infrastructure projects to create stations closer to the city centers (or better connect them). It's a young system so the next years will be important, but as with any new "skill". You guys complain about the pricing… mean while a train ride from dc to manhattan new york is 100-200$ off peak times and 150-250$ on peak times one way and on coach. Business class will run you 300-400 easy depending on the season one way. Clearly alot of you have never been on a train that goes past a couple counties let alone your state. The prices for foreigners seems more then reasonable.

Ok, so how did you get to Palenque? They should add a passenger rail connection between Mexico City & Palenque. Before the Mexican President discontinued most of their passenger trains in 1997, they operated using 1930's era former U.S. Pullman cars. In 1983, I rode from Merida to Mexico City on a combination passenger & freight train, which included a live cattle car in the consist. Then continued via train to Guadalajara, Los Mochis, Chihuahua, Juarez. Then walked over the U.S. border to El Paso, then further train travel via bus & Amtrak.
@Dyskette11 күн бұрын
Yeah, Mexico City to Palenque is more than 900KM, so it's a big task that will happen gradually in the following years. In the next months there will be another train line from Coatzacoalcos to Panlenque, so that covers 300 KM already... next would be Mexico City to Coatzacoalcos. However, there are other rail projects that might have higher priority, like Mexico City to Guadalajara, and Mexico City to Monterrey.

What foreigners need to understand is that, in no other term of office had the government in turn made this sort of investment in the southern part of the country (yes, this project was fully funded by public investment and is currently administered by the Army), just as the current administration has. Historically, most high-level investments were made in the central and northern parts of the country, therefore, poverty levels were higher in the southern states. That being said, this is quite a huge improvement for the zone, not only on transportation and mobility terms, but for the whole infrastructure (current and future) around this project. Yes, there's still plenty of room for improvement in all areas and feedback is not only welcome, but crucial, however, the same should have the forementioned context in consideration; we're finally getting there and are still working on it. Thank you for sharing your personal experience and thoughts on this, Sir!

This Train was made without finishing all the due technical studies and without any permit or green light from enviromental agencies. more than 2,000,000,0000 of trees were cut and damaged forever the natural forest. the train was made in such an economical way that it is very unsecure. A lot of irregularities were found during its construction and all the contracts were given to "Friends and relatives" of the ruling party. Nowadays it's a complete economical failure because it can't compete against regular buses (that in México are very economical, luxury and and confortable with air conditioning, multimedia screens, like in airplanes and internet) Buses are faster, cheaper and more departures to choose from. It was a whim from current Mexico's president (that was born in the south of Mexico) that used all its power to speed out its construction. It's losing money at a fast pace...

Sounds like a post from the Right wing opposition in Mexico. Railways don't make money. Their benefits are being environmentally friendly and each person not driving or using the bus is contributing to the environment. Cars and buses do not help the environment. What a missed chance to not build it high speed and for electrical operation from the very start - as initially planned. Also how stupid to set the Cancun station on the wrong side of the airport - requiring a 10 minute bus ride from the Terminal, offering no connection to the city of Cancun and putting it on the farthest point of the hotel zone. Who planned that???

I really hope this works out economically. And it could and should: eventually, the station surroundings will get more and more service oriented businesses and local people should be able to profit from that. And, the more welfare and businesses, the less crime, I hope. Good thing they post so many visible security officers, that gives a very good impression to traveling public. Another thing, already in the comments: yes, charge the tourists much more and charge the local people much less. Tourists can pay this, even if the author nags about pricing levels, I mean come on, the income levels in Europe and US cannot even be compared to anything in Mexico, I guess. And this whole line needs to stay viable. Therefore, promote it to well healed tourists, charge a lot for it, but enable locals to use it at much lower prices, and I think it should be ok. Looking at the nature and the views from the train, I would be happy to pay for that, even if I have to save money for this to happen. IMHO, cheapening many destinations (btw, like Cancun!) brought unwanted crime and less and less tourists. But, I might not be getting it altogether, who knows. I certainly wish them well, it was a HEROIC effort for a very poor country and may it succeed!
