currently playing this with 74 mods installed, over a thousand ships available, 20+ factions with lore, coreplanets and shipsets. 10/10 would recommend this game

do they have good carrier class ? like a solid carrier with lots of fighters bombers with good launch and fight animation not just some drones

@@besoten There are a few weird ones that are carrier heavy. There is even a Carrier that launches Space-Mecha Suits instead of starfighters. It's called a Gantry or something, I forget the mod's name.

You can use agents to "procure" really nice ships from TriTach by having them move to a TriTach market. When they arrive, they should be able to procure for you any ship available to the TriTach faction, it will cost ~2x as much (because it's illegal or restricted), but at least you won't need blue prints or be a member of their faction. This works on all factions, not just TriTach. High tech is best tech! Agents are a great way to quickly get a bunch of ground combat-assisting ships, such as Valkyries, for when you want to make the plunge into invasions and raiding.

The purchase Nook made with the agent was a legal purchase, if you look close, but yes, you can acquire sweet battlecruisers with them.

I generally keep Wolves supervised by Medusas (i.e., fat Wolf) around, even if the fleet also contains battlecruisers. This is because during larger battles, ships get isolated and beaten down, but these phase skimmer types are evasive and mobile, able to stay out of fire even when pinned, and able to extricate self from pinned status to quickly support larger ships in danger of being isolated. They can jump into or out of a difficult spot and with the Harass order, effectively divide the attention of a dangerous cluster of ships. Wolves are also more able to follow the trend of staying equidistant from each other when attacking, which is why a pack of them is greater than the sum of its parts. Just like real timber wolves, you don't just run into a pack of them ahead of you; when you run into them ahead of you, there's already another wolf behind you. ;)

I have a current game of nexerelin right now, i just ended for today a few minutes ago, figured i would check in and here i see nook playing it. I found a decently good colonial area with 3 planets of decent habitability just outside the core, now i just need to wait for them to develop, however, i am severely hampered by the sheer lack of loot around the universe. I just can't find anything good besides those three planets. So, i have explored everything now, and all thats left to do is to do some missions and finally deal with the rest of the factions, but thats for another day.

I like your playtrough, cause I didn't know how fun it will be to play with small ships. Every time I go for the big hulls but this seems way too fun!

From what I understand, other people have taken over Varya's sector and have released their own up-to-date version. You have to snoop around in the last few pages in the Varya's Sector mod page on the official StarSector forum.

get on the unofficial discord. Several mods including Vayra’s Sector have unofficial updates posted there. There are also a lot of mods there that aren’t on the forums.

If you decide to go the route of using AI cores to run your colonies, you better make sure you can take on the Hegemony. If they have not changed the mechanic in this mod, they will begin performing forcible "AI Inspections" and seizing any they find after totally disrupting your colony. I always make it a point to wipe the Hegemony out as soon as I can in the game, I can't stand those guys... Also, please remember to pick up the freighter that you "acquired" that is in storage on your home planet!

If anything, Nex makes it harder. I tested a core install and that hour (game hour, i.e., immediately) Hegemony decided to inspect. Vanilla it would be eight months with several alpha cores. The good news is if you go blow up the source base (probably military) where the inspection came from and make them vengeful (-100), Hegemony may try to negotiate a cease fire. This is true even if they lost the vote for peace in an alliance they're in. On the plus side of alphas running brand new colonies, since they deduct 1 from all the demands, by some robot magic you have a colony with nothing in stores and no demands for anything, hahaha.

Not only Hedge. Using any cores will attract the path to you as well. As for me, I like trying to corner the market on a particular good. If you do this with fuel, expect everyone to start raiding you.

Nice, I always get a bad barren rock or bad ice planet if I start with player faction. Getting a habitable start is huge.

Incase anyone isn't aware, cryosanctum is a unique structure that is normally controlled by the independents and provides the best income of organs, harvested from those who don't survive being put into or revived from cryosleep.

I wish there was a "Firefly" or Mercenary mod for this game, in which the focus is surviving in that universe in a single ship rather than with a fleet.

Why need a mod for that? There's nothing stopping you from playing exactly like that by default. - Whenever you get another ship, just trash/sell the one you don't want to fly.

@@FeralXethx I was thinking it wouldn't really be balanced for that kind of game play and that some extra features could be added to help aid said gameplay. But I was thinking you could make the fleet cap very low perhaps.

@@acidtwin With the idea of 'surviving in the universe with a single ship,' then trying to balance things out would defeat the purpose. If you can go toe to toe with a station by your lonesome, then things are wayyyy off. You should never try to tackle anything more than you can actually chew on, and default game already gives you 100% chance at running away via story points for when you get sorta screwed over. Does this mean downtime in safe space doing boring things to get more points before heading out into the outer regions? Sure; but that's par for the course when you only have one life to live. Small rant aside: actually balancing around a single ship would take a massive overhaul, and would probably need to be tailored to a specific ship, or maybe ship size. So you'd be stuck with the same ship forever. Which, while maybe the point, could also get dull down the line. - Changing max fleet cap on the other hand, is definitely doable; and you have the choice of limiting it to yourself, or making it universal.

@@FeralXethx I get what you are saying, but as you progress it would be interesting for example to have a feature that would allow you to make temp alliances during a battle or purchase the help of a bounty hunter fleet for a few days or so on. Perhaps to do a hit and run you team up with a few other merc groups to get the job done then split it. Or to build contacts on various planets to allow for safe houses. This mod seems to add a lot of other features I was thinking about though that makes the universe feel how you described above. Another feature could be more RPG elements to help with this type of gameplay, rather than captains in your fleet you could have an engineer, helm, tactical officer and so on and build up your crew which gives you useful bonuses for things like escaping, boosts, the kind of stuff we see in scifi movies. Maybe a heist mechanic? Which could just be a reworked version of the siege mechanics already in the game. Perhaps a lot of this is already there though? I've not played in a year or so.

Setting all the hardpoints to Universals might help you enjoy your one ship better. I did write a script to do this with all the ships, and that makes for a different game, certainly.

Frigates are where most of the bonuses seem to be. It seems to me the game maker wants frigates to be the majority of your fleet.

Maybe not majority but at least have a purpose beyond brute power. The old system meant the only way up once you hit the ship cap was to move on to bigger ships and most bonuses worked better on bigger ships. Changing it to officers deciding how much deployment each fleet gets helped. I'm thinking about trying a mod that gives fleets a total DP limit as opposed to a flat 30 slots. It's not a hard limit as it just raises supply/fuel cost the higher you go past the limit which I also like the idea of as it means you can selectively decide when an enormous fleet is actually needed. I'll see, when a capital ship no longer effectively takes up the same amount of space a frigate I should be encouraged to consider more interesting fleets.

You should configure your ships yourself. The built-in builds are bad. Your wolf frigate, equip it with a lance, pulse lazers, missiles are not super important but the infinite one that stuns engines is nice and maybe the torpedoe at 2 of weight is a good choice.
