everything in this movie was made for a reason, this is what we called elevated horror…the whole movie is a metaphor on how far the media can go to cause a spectacle and entertain people at a higher risk, this movie being about animals and how humans want to control their nature that’s why when the alien feels threatened it’s instinct is just to kill. great reaction

Elevated horror is just horror. Horror films, even those that aren’t obviously trying to make a statement, have always commented on sociopolitical issues. The Texas Chain Saw Massacre comments on industrial capitalism and animal rights, for example, but it isn’t considered “elevated horror.” This pretentious title is used by pretentious film school geeks who think they’re better than typical horror fans because they enjoy “real cinema.” It’s obnoxious and dismissive of horror as a whole.

Okay, let me first just say that I really enjoyed your reaction to this film! But to clear some things up, taking out 15 to 20 minutes of the first third of the film would probably affect it. And the reason for that is because the whole film is a commentary on the exploitation of life in the pursuit of a spectacle. The film even starts with a quote talking about using you in creating a spectacle. So the first third you get hints of Gordy, but also the struggle of using horses in Hollywood films under a team of people who clearly do not respect the limitations and boundaries of a wild creature like a horse, causing it to act out because they didn't listen to OJ. Jupe experience this as well with Gordy going ape shit over a mere sudden burst of loud noise. But Jupe didn't learn his lesson because he tried doing the same exact thing all over again with the wild alien creature that is Jean Jacket. And technically OJ and his sister don't learn this lesson until the very end, if even then, because they kept trying to get a picture or footage of the spectacle no matter the potential consequences. And as a result, Jean Jacket gets seemingly obliterated as a consequence of somebody else's pursuit of a spectacle. Oh, btw, the famous cinematographer was popping some pills here and there in the film, sort of hinting that he's sick. So I'd hazard a guess that he was dying and he knew it, so he sacrificed himself in order to get the "impossible shot," which was him being eaten alive because he knew that so long he kept rolling until he died, the creature would eventually spit out the camera. Really brave stuff, but also harkins right back to the "spectacles at the expense of life" lesson. ❤

oh we’re getting the alien franchise???? I’m so stokeddd!!!! and honestly since she loves space and things of that nature if you do a “space” themed poll, I highly recommend “Life” starring Deadpool himself, Annihilation, or the Cloverfield series

Movie recommendation for you to react to: VACANCY (2007), a tense, simple and well-acted thriller, but very underestimated by many, you will be surprised.

ayy we made ittt, glad you’ve gotten around to it, Peele is a phenomenal director and all of his projects so far are spectacular in their own way but I definitely feel like Nope is “lackluster” compared to the others, I loved the different take on the alien genre and the reveal of the entity itself and I can’t wait for his new project next year. Him and A24’s production comp are really taking over and redefining the horror genre
