Just wanted to say thank you for this video. I was given this unit by my grandfather in law and I could not figure out the right channel issue on my own. I tested every component in the channel path and was at a loss. This relay was the exact problem on mine as well and it was a super easy fix. Here's to repairing your own devices so they'll last multiple lifetimes!

My 1987 Realistic is similar in design as this one, on the inside. I think mine was made by Lucky Group aka Goldstar aka LG. Mine still works and is used to power 4 speakers in my garage in series. since it is 8 ohms. Many manufactures made products for Radio Shack. Pioneer, Sanyo and so on. Thanks for showing your old school system.

This receiver, and yours, was made by Foster Electric.

I have the same exact receiver and the speaker relay isn't coming on.

It's either a protection problem or it is actually sensing an issue with a high DC offset on one or both channels.

I still have an sta 2500 I bought new in the 80s. Works well but sometimes it has a weird whine noise that can be heard when idling......has anyone else experienced this with their 2500?
@norcal71511 ай бұрын
I have not heard a whine. Still using mine almost daily.

Yay for acetone! I miss Radioshack and their affiliated branded consumer electronics pre 2k. A lot of their existing equipment still supersedes most of the currently manufactured equipment to date in my personal opinion. All of my shortwave radios and scanners came from them in my younger years, and shortly after becoming a ham, I was lent an HT202 to use until I was able to get my own radio. Other than the audio and internal battery issue, they were not a bad HT overall. Do you run across any Tandy branded items in your shop? They are kind of like Leprechauns up here, they show up at inconvenient times and are difficult to get your hands on one if you do wrangle it.

Good job that's a good old receiver. Someone said don't use deoxit to clean relays ?

I stll have several Tandy's stored on my shelves, mostly video processing stuff. What? No spritz of dexos on the switch to see if it freed it up? Well, I never... Hey. It's a Reagan Amp and when this was built Van Halen's JUMP became the #1 Rock hit of the year! Great year for Rock 'n Roll, Classic Rock! Looking forward to the turntable repairs through the old girl! BTW, did you ever get that .WinRAR proggy installed and the file openned?

Thank for the great video. Thumbed up. I also have a Realistic 2500 (that was my grandfather's. I like it a bit but I was wondering if there is an internal battery to this receiver, because each time the power goes out I loose all the radio stations in memory. Would you know ?
@norcal7153 жыл бұрын
There is an internal capacitor for memory back up. Mine lasts just under 2 weeks before it forgets. I was thinking on upgrading mine to double the size. If I do I will video it.

@@norcal715 Thank you for your reply, I saw that last night digging more later on on the web where I found the user manual that mentions it, but I didn't know they could be replaced. That's great and I hope youll make a video. I wonder if mine don't even last less than a week, as of now... Thank you anyway for your reply and info.
