Does anyone else think that being “breathed upon the throat of the world by Kyne” is a metaphor for sailing on the wind to Skyrim

You could also argue the tonal architecture of the Dwemer gave them an unintended weakness to the thuum specifically. You could always say regarding dragons and shouts, that since the Dragons were the governing faction in Atmora, they spoke the dragon language. So Ysmir Wulfarth could only speak dragon (draconic?) and that is why he couldn't talk at all. So Tounges just took every word more to them and made them shouts.

I know it's a year late, but my thoughts regarding the Voice is that I think the gods bestowed such a power onto the nords because they were u justly oppressed by the dragons. So when they began to abuse it, the gods made it increasingly more rare, hence the various ages of the greybeards, Ulfric Stormcloak, etc. Even Jarl Balgruuf made the journey of the 7000 steps. So by Skyrim, it's a very rare thing but not so rare that only the legendary dragonborn can possess it.

Fun Fact, despite the obvious Norse pantheon, the Nordic pantheon is influenced a lot by the Egyptians. Especially with Shor acting as an Osiris figure, Tsun an Anubis figure (judging the dead) and the widow ruling until their son (Kyne/Isis and Talso/Ysmir) comes of age to fight the ancient enemy, a serpent who eats the world (Alduin/Apophis)

Even if the Nords never came, the concept of Shezzar was known to the Nedes(because they invented the term/name), and thus Pelinal would have still came to their aid. Here my reasoning. Alessia literally says that she thinks "Freedom" is another name for "Shezzar Who Goes Missing" after conceptualizing what it was to be free before receiving her visions and her rebellion. Shezzar was worshipped by the pre-slavery Proto-Cyrodilic Nedes as a Hero-God that fought the Elves to keep man free. It was only after Shezzar left that the Nedes were subjugated by the Aylieds. Shezzar and the concept of Sezzarine are native to Cyrodil. It doesnt meen that Shezzarines weren't popping up amongst the Nords, Bretons, and Redguard, they jhst wouldnt have called them "Shezzarine" but rather a local name for the same concept, but the Nedes would recognize as such.

I was thinking about the theory that the Civil War is what the thalmor want and I kinda agree. That's what anyone would want intentional or unintentional. Like a good game of risk. But the only thing is Nords are fucking determined, ambitious brutes. Their retaliation against the snow elves drove them into near extinction, they won the dragon war, and honestly they are the backbone of the empire. The empire would most likely be nothing without em. So the Nords standing as one in skyrim could definitely kick the thalmors ass not to mention the empire.

Low key i think Bethesda is going to find a way to bring back the old Nordic pantheon, like the Stormcloaks winning and Ulfric re-instating the old faith or something In the 10 years since Skyrim i've seen way too many people say they would like the old Nordic pantheon to be popular in-game
@95Bartlett
@95Bartlett 3 жыл бұрын
I think the reason why the Nordic religion was watered was to give the Civil War an easy digestible cause for players. The preferred setting imo would be the Western holds being more imperialized and the Eastern holds being more Nordic, the issue that arises is why would the Eastern Nords be more pissed off about the Talos ban than the Western holds? We could probably come up with in universe explanations for why that would be but Bethesda wanted any player to be able to understand the Civil War regardless of their previous experience with the franchise and its lore. I do think they could have thought of ways around this issue and I think the simplest solution would to just be to add some lore that in the 3rd era the Nords of Skyrim adopted Talos as part of the Nordic pantheon and Talos could be sort of a unifying religious figure between the imperialized western Nords and the more traditional eastern Nords and is why these two different religions in Skyrim are able to tolerate each other. A bit of a side note, but I think "loan-god" just means that Orkey is an amalgam of all foreign gods that the Nords fight, which is why he's "borrowed" and not Nordic in origin. The reason he is related to Malacath is due to the Nords warring with Orcs and High Elves (Malacath used to be Trinimac). And the reason Orkey is the representation of foreign adversaries and the god of death is due to the Nords warlike nature, most Nords who die are going to die fighting their enemies aka people who Orkey represents. And keep up the good work guys!!!

Idk why, but whenever I listen to long podcasts, I usually dream in and out of them, sort of like background noise. With you guys, I just literally sit down at the dinner table, my desk or my bed and just listen throughout the entire thing. I definitely feel a dopamine rush whenever I see a podcast from you guys! Or maybe I'm just a hardcore ES lore nerd. It's the same with Tolkien's books and the Dune series. Said it before and I'll say it again, I can literally listen to you guys for hours. That 5 hour podcast, I'd make time and listen through the whole damn thing! Cheers! I'm definitely interested in the 'clever men' of the Nords, or perhaps a closer look at the Nordic pantheon (minus Alduin) and their worshippers, especially Jhunal, and the general decline of magic with the Nords, and how magic was possibly even practiced with he ancient Nords, the Nordic worshippers of Julianos etc.

Rise Nords remembere the glory of the past, return to the time of the dragon Wulfharth. Drive out outsiders who would have you cast out honor and glory for a moments peace, return to the call of the storm crown who is the chosen of dreaming Shor. Death to the Elves, death to the Empire, the time of Men will never end!

Regarding the ancient wooden structures, like Jorvaskr or Dragonsreach, since they've been continualy inhabited the entire time, maybe the people just repaired them over time and replaced the wood? Then of course you could argue that it isn't the original boat, but I mean, you could make the same argument for most of HMS Victory.

I know you guys have done more than one elder scrolls 6 video, but I like hearing your guys opinions on what was and what you think should be. I'd like to see more es6 videos talking about skill systems, quest designs, armor and weapons, etc. I think you did one on factions which was cool.

You guys really point out the reason I still love Morrowind the best. Don't get me wrong, Skyrim and Oblivion were fine games, and I played them for hundreds of hours, but the magic, mystique, depth, epicness, strangeness, and on and so forth, is what I loved about Morrowind, and why I keep coming back to it. This deep and profound, rather thought-provoking lore of creation, Almsivi, the betrayal of Nervarine and Dagoth Urs origin and motives, the Dunmer's Origins, traditions and cermonies, everything is so complex yet fresh, and most of it you have to dig for to get there. It's a game that just keeps on giving everytime you play it, whereas Skyrim and Oblivion are much more streamlined, almost to the point that there's no reason to explore for anything but epic loot, which is nice, but putting it in context, and filling the world with these dualities and philosophies is exactly why Morrowind still reigns supreme. Then again, the reason why Skyrim sells is because of the streamlining, which wasn't a bad move on Bethesda's part, but it did sacrifice a lot of the things that made Elder Scrolls so darn interesting.

I discovered this about Dragons not all but some, if you approach the dragon without a weapon Drawn, the Dragon will not attack you but watch you and eventually it will say this 'Why are you here?, I have no time to speak with you, tell me what it is you want or leave me be?!'. The first time I encountered this odd behavior I was surprised and Puzzled, the Dragon could have simply breathed on me but it didn't................ I thought What!? How!?, it's as if the Dragon sensed you were Dragonborn. :)

I was watching this and other lore on the Nords and something occurred to me about Shor. granted this is merely a theory but Shor/Talos is the Ture God of Man in The Elder Scrolls let me explain 1. Shor sends some of his power down in the form of Whitestrake to help free man in Alessian Slave Rebellion in 1E after which Alessia basically turns on him by still worshipping elven gods 2. Shor comes down in man form as Talos "like God did with Jesus" Talos is giving alot of different titles and uses aliases "probably so he can move around freely and be treated like just one of the Guys" this is why his lore is so confusing but if you look at his Statue's it shows him killing a serpent which could represent him killing off his old form and his accession as Talos the God of Man form this was late 2E- early 3E. 3. In Skyrim when you encounter Alduin for the first time he says he can't sense any dragon kind in you which could mean your not actually dragon born but that Talos/Shor has sent you to Skyrim with some of his power to help free Nords from the empire/Thalmor and stop Alduin this is in 4E So My Theory is this Shor came down and was reborn as Talos to try and regain man's worship back to him the Ture God of Man by living as a Man then Ascending back to a God as Talos. Alduin doesn't recognize you as Dragon kind which makes me believe that your ability to shout is a gift granted to you by Talos/Shor. Also this would make since that Shor had helped Man in every Era and tried to correct his being worshipped by man sense most men worship the 8 divine mixed gods which you know Shor would be absolutely pissed to be a part of sense he doesn't like elves. Just a thought sorry for any mis spelling.

I recently saw something during my recent Skyrim playthrough. In the Nordic ruins, you sometimes get those puzzles where you have to spin pillars. Now, there are several animals depicted on those pillars. Eagle/bird of prey is reasonable, snake is a bit of a stretch since I don't think there are any snakes in Skyrim (in lore), but correct me if I'm wrong, and there is also a dolphin. I highly doubt that there are any dolphins near Skyrim's shores due to the fact that the only sea they have access to is the Sea of Ghosts which is in the North. Now, this could be explained by the change in climate over the millennia or by snakes and dolphins working differently in the Elder Scrolls. Still, it is a somewhat weird choice to include these exact animals in the game. Especially the fact that they appear in the very first dungeon we are supposed to explore, which makes me think that it was a deliberate choice on the developers' part. Is there any lore behind this? Do we know anything?
