I have to say a thing about dwarves: The common theory in TES is that "well, Dwemer are called 'dwarves' because they were small next to the giants", but akchually... "Dwarf" does not mean "little person". In Norse mythology (where dwarves come from), "Dwarf" was a mythological creature, just like elves and fairies. Elves did not have pointy ears prior to Tolkien, it's a product of modern fantasy. And dwarves weren't necessarily short either, it's a product of modern fantasy. "Dwarfs" as in the mutation making people short, was named after the mythical people, who weren't even necessarily short. Norse mythology dwarves were often interchanged with dark or black elves, and they lived underground. In a sense, TES got it right by making their dwarves human-sized. I find this very interesting and want more people to know about it. TL;DR: In the original sources (Norse mythology), there is nothing saying "Dwarf = short person".

Wanted to comment on something Michael said at the end - I think most people do like it when you guys go off on tangents and just talk, whether it's Elder Scrolls related or not!! Or at the very least I do. Seems to me that most of your audience are interested in the podcast cause we get to see you three unscripted and speaking as friends, I feel like there shouldn't be a strict emphasis on sticking to the talking points or whatever. *I was thinking of sea giants being able to lure Horkers, because you can see them on the frozen plethora of northern skyrim and down west by the Icewater Jetty and near the rockface of Lower Pitfall Burrow. How they lure them? Maybe as you said about normal giants being able to grind down the marrows of Mammoth Tusks into simple bone-meal, but in this case Horkers, fooling the Horkers into thinking it as one of their own, trapped at sea. It is not uncommon, as this is further layered by a book north of Dawnstar in skyrim, it tells you about how a horker can save lives if treated with caution. So if the sea giants lure them, they could hunt them and undoubtedly eat the meat layered beneath their blubber, and then grind their tusks down for another day for yet another meal.* *Note: I'm on about if sea giants ever migrate, because I know normal giants migrate with their mammoths to different campsites, from Tundras to plains.* *Another note: I've never actually seen giants in Solstheim so it's a possibility that the ash from the red mountain keep them away from all Dunmer province.* *Possibly not the final note: The book is titled 'Horker Attacks' and before it gets to the Hunter's story, it talks about a myth of hunters saving a girl lost at sea, hence why I mentioned saving in the process. This book can also be found in whiterun, Apocrypha and some places in Solstheim.*

I just came up with my own in head cannon to explain the mechanics of ESO and it actually does require a dragon break. Molag Bal didn't just mess with the elder scrolls universe that we are all playing in. Each player is from their own elder scrolls universe and the elder scrolls multiverse is experiencing a dragon break where every players ESO universe is smashing into each other like some kind of multiverse car crash. This explains why it doesn't matter how many times we kill Molag Bal, other monsters, or even NPCs because another one from the infinite multiverse replaces them shortly after we do. Its also why the NPCs treat us as if we're the only 'hero' in the game. The players characters are themselves in some kind of forced Chim state where they exist beyond the multiverse and that's why they cant die either. So if you think about it ESO is a hellscape where theirs an army of undying demigods fighting a war across the elder scrolls multiverse ravaging entire planes of existence as we farm people, monsters, and animals out of existence and the only real winner is Molag Bal who gets to sit back and watch lol

I think the 'split' between men and giants refers to how the wandering ehlnofey diverged into separate species of living beings, and somehow the Nords' understanding of that has endured into their cultural mythology when it regards the giants.

My headcanon, is that the OG elves used the giants as slaves (that they stole from the Nord homeland). The giants built the massive city for the elves and then rebelled, sinking most of the city/landmass and using what the elves had taught their slaves to keep building ships. Which explains why the Skyrim giants are so primitive, they never got sent to reeducation slave camps.

Giants are the wandering Elnofey is my new headcannon. It explains how men had any kind of chance against the elves. Imagine giants with intellect and magical abilities. My headcannon is that the discovery of the Thume led to domination by the Dragons and their priests, and as part of that, some of the giants had their voices literally stolen, and were intellectually stunted. This laying low of their mightiest warriors made the rest fall in line, and they were literally “brought low”…made smaller and less capable and thus easier to dominate…and this eventually led to the events revealed in Skyrim with the dragon wars and casting Alduin forward. Others escaped to Atmora to be encountered later….

Lyris Titanborn has always confused me because everyone says she gets her giant blood from her father, and it was due to her being part giant that her mother died in childbirth. I dunno if this has been fixed in the years since I played ESO, but I distinctly remember when you see the spirit of her father during that one quest he's smaller than her and no bigger than a normal man. That may have been an oversight by the devs, but it seems like if they were gonna go through all the trouble to make her that large and make this whole backstory about her being a descendant of giants, that they could do the same for her father. For the longest time I thought the half giant thing came from her mother's side of the family because of that, since many TES lore nerds swear that children always take after the mother's race. But apparently both Lyris and Belharza disprove that theory.

On the point of how big the first companion would have been, since my voice to text will not spell his name or anything, it is probably important to remember that he is depicted as a very large man capable of wielding his axe and shield in one hand each, something which is a two-handed effort for the Dragonborn regardless of their race or size at their point in history. Making it likely that the first companion was a very large fellow, although I doubt he would Stack Up substantially to a giant
