It seams like we're in the golden era of retired steamers being restored and brought back to life for todays generations to see and appreciate in person.

hopefully even more will return. I'd want to see C&O 614 under steam again

@@CRRPRR2102 Even though no longer owned by the Union Pacific, the organization that the UP sold the Challenger to will restore that engine to operating condition again, which will be nice. Though not a steamer, and the chances of the UP restoring it are zero, I would love to see the UP restore one of their gas turbine locos to operating condition. Not only would it be a unique and impressive engine to see, it would make an unusual sound for a locomotive as it would sound like a jet plane going by instead of a steam or diesel loco. Weather it's steam, diesel, or gas turbines, the UP has had a pretty strong fetish for massive engines throughout it's history.

Visit the UK, we have 100's running on many preserved railways, there's at least one mainline steam run every week, usually more. This year two new engines, not restorations, completed this year have been steamed (Google: Beachy Head, Betton Grange).

Thank you, Drayton, for uploading this short video of the Norfolk Southern 611's excursion over the Old Fort Loops. I enjoyed watching this video of the Old Fort Loops that are currently (2024) no longer in use. (Posted 31 July 1024 at 1454 CDT.)

N&W Class J - in my opinion these were the finest steam locomotives of all time, with the NYC Niagara a very close second. Really hoping to take a trip on her if she's still operating.

Is that a recreation of the streamlined New York Hudson? Did they just have an old engine laying around and built in top of that or is it bottom-up?

Is this locomotive a two, three or four cylinder engine? Whichever it is, it’s the sort of locomotive behind which I would love to ride. But it would have to come over here rather than me going over there!!
@Mereel92125 ай бұрын
She has only two cylinders, but more power than the most european steam engines. No surprise, with nearly 5 meters of hight.

giving dynamic brake support along with giving PTC system compliance to be qualified to run to the mainline, its also a heritage unit so why not team up with it?
@conductorjohnmthtrains22395 ай бұрын
UP does the same thing with 844&3985, they claim they couldn't afford brake pads so they use diesels for dynamic breaking, kind of ruins it in my opinion. If you're going to restore a classic steam gem ( Put f'n brakes on it)
