I like these plastic stocked rifles because the buttstocks are hollow. I take the recoil pad and i stuff the hollow space with jell filled squeese toys i get at the Dollar Tree. The jell filled squeese toys absorb a lot of recoil and vibration. This protects the scope from damage and makes the gun shoot quieter. The extra weight in the buttstock makes the rifle balance better too. Thanks for the video.

@@airgunsofalaska i was going to fill the space with silicone caulk. I think It would do the same thing but its not so easily removed if i changed my mind about it. My rifle held three of the squeese toys I put the first one in a sandwich bag and i stuffed it way up in the front of the buttstock. That way it wouldnt get stuck and i could pull it out easy if i wanted too. There was just room enough in the stock for two more squeese toys. The toys i found at the Dollar Tree look kind of like banana shaped clear rubber bags with white beads suspended in some kind of jell. The tough rubber bag is kind of tacky feeling. That makes it absorb vibration from the stock really well. I thought about taking the action out of the stock and seeing if there are any empty spaces i could fill with some silicone caulk. Maybe bed the whole action in it. First wrap the action in dry cleaner plastic bagging so it isnt glued in place with silicone. Some stocks have hollow pistol grips that i think could benefit from some silicone. Theres no reason to have a scope smasher if you have a hollow plastic stock. Part of why it works is that it adds some weight to the rifle so it absorbs some recoil. That is a good thing for the scope.

Eagle-eye shooting! I believe Norica barrels are hammer forged in Spain using German steel. I scratch my head as to why Norica does not put their very nice Norica N.A.T.S. trigger on their very nice Dreamhunter. Norica chose to use their crude direct sear trigger on the Dreamhunter(crazy!). The sear hook is made of stamped sheet metal sandwiched together with rivets to make it a wide enough hook to handle the heavy load. The plates are not always lined up well, so the sandwich sear hook doesn't engage the piston latch evenly and trigger weight ends up heavy and variable. Old Norica air rifles had solid steel sears which were more heavy duty and even, and produced a lighter, less variable trigger pull weight.

I was hoping this gun would turn out well as I was dialing it in. Now that I’ve seen how the trigger works I much better understand why it felt and performed like garbage. Part of me is glad the gun broke because it wasn’t smoothing out the more I shot it and the vibration, recoil and garbage trigger feel was getting old. Had they made it more reliable and included a better quality trigger the gun would be much better.

Seems like a quality air gun (maybe with the exception of the stock). I too would prefer wood but can agree that scratching a nice piece of wood does bring a tear to the eye. Look forward to seeing how it holds up over use and time.

I’m curious about its long term reliability as well since I’ve never owned the brand. So far, aside from some minor niggling things the gun has been solid. But it’s only day two and I expect my airguns to last decades.

@@DrAgan_tortojed great points! I can still remember back in the 80’s when synthetic stocks were the new cool thing for rim/centerfires and people wanted them over wood for the some of the same reasons you mentioned like being more stable. But I’m really fickle and it seems like I always want the opposite of what’s offered on an airgun. If it’s got plastic I want real wood and then vice versa.

Ha ha! I’ve been looking at it for a while. Airgun Depot finally got some in and had a $20 off promotion in an email so I ordered it. I think their free shipping policy sucks as it doesn’t apply to Alaska. Thats why I rarely order from them. So far the Norica looks pretty promising power and accuracy wise. @@nightwolf357. I’m planning to swap one of my scopes from one airgun to this Norica to try out down the road. Yeah, both Pyramid and Airgun Depot are seemingly the same. Both have the same shitty shipping policy to Alaska where they don’t honor their “over $179 ships free”. They are a great deal for the lower 48 but I went through the motions to buy pellets through them 2 weeks ago and they wanted $40+ to ship USPS. They’ve apparently never heard of using a flat rate box where weight doesn’t matter. I only order guns through them when I can’t find it anywhere else. They at least use USPS for gun shipping and with their coupon offers with discounts it helps take some of the cost down. Still, if Amazon and most eBay vendors can ship to Alaska for free I don’t see why Pyramid/Airgun Depot can’t. I checked Field Supply and they don’t ship to Alaska. 😞 We’ll see how the Norica holds up over time. Right now it’s looking really promising with accuracy and performance. After my MagFire and Dragonfly experience, it’d be nice to get a trouble free, accurate, brand new gun. I’m looking forward to shooting it some more this weekend.

It to this day gets me pissed at certain big KZbin channels for putting out shill reviews tricking me into buying that garbage gun. I’m a big Crosman fan but ended up, learning through experience that the only guns to buy from them are the ones they still make in the USA. Their made in China guns are not good. I too really like those same models you listed. After the Magfire & Seneca I swore off buying any new made in China airguns. It takes a lot of work to sort through where airguns are made anymore. That trapdoor style breech cover is pretty unique, at least to me. The air totally does travel through it so the design has its pros & cons. Ultimately a guy will never injure their fingers loading this gun so that’s a pretty big pro. Thanks for this! I didn’t realize or even think about the how the loading sequence could have a negative impact on the pellet. From here forward I’ll make sure to cock the gun first before loading. It’s funny to experience all the different nuances between all the assorted types of airguns. I’ve never owned a Gamo. I was doing some reading about them last night and in one forum post they were talking about how they moved some and/or all of their manufacturing to China. Is that true? I’d only consider a made in Spain Gamo if that’s the case. Cometa is a brand I’ve not heard of before. I watched a few reviews of the Omnia ZRS last spring and it looked interesting. It is priced a lot lower than the Air King but the big KZbin channels that were reviewing it I don’t have much respect for as they overhype everything and put out shill reviews IMO. I’d like to try one out. I could see myself liking it but I don’t know if I’d $400 like it.🤔 My Air King is very smooth, very accurate and very nicely built. The front of the forearm is super thin and too flexible in my opinion. That portion of the gun was disappointing for sure. I just looked up the Daisy 1100S and it looks quite nice. I don’t have any experience with it or any Daisy break barrel guns. Good to hear that it has so many metal parts. Lately, so many airguns are coming with plastic pieces and shrouds, etc, that it diminishes the look and appeal to me. @@yoitired I don’t think I’d heard of them until this year when I learned of their Omnia ZRS. One of the major reasons I went with this model was that it was made in Spain, not another China made gun. I almost….. ALMOST bought a Hatsan Torpedo… yeah, those sling swivels and the looks and power of the gun were pulling me in. Then I fortunately watched the right video and the guy was funny saying how now he remembers why he rarely shoots it. Twang! All the recoil and vibration is then evident on video. I was thinking, yeah, yeah, I can live with that, it’ll teach me to be a better shooter. Then in another video he shows how THE ENTIRE BARREL SLIDES FORWARD to load a pellet. I’m like, “Heck NO!”. What a stupid design. Let’s ruin an underlever by making the fixed barrel unfixed. Genius! The Norica factory looked pretty large. But then I don’t know? Could be that their website isn’t legit but I’m doubting it. I suspect they are just a European brand that doesn’t have a large presence in North America. I got the impression they were more popular in South America from the lack of English speaking KZbin videos on the gun. Hopefully the gun holds up for the long run. I mean it should, steel coil spring and all the important parts are metal. I liked the lack or plastic crap on the gun compared to many of the Gamos, Crosman, Umarex…well heck, most all of them. Have you thought about, how and wich way the air is getting into the chamber while cocking it? Especialy when a pellet is allready in the barrel?You wear the seals out if you cock it loaded and closed because you force it to suck air into the chamber while it schould be completely close. If you expect to maintain a tight and powerful system while pushing air out, you should not force it to pull air in when it should be sealed. Sorry for that.😅

@airgunsofalaska 11 ай бұрын
I don’t know about that? I’ve had quite a few viewers comment it has a German made barrel. Norica has a factory in Eibar, Spain and you can street view it in Google maps. Their factory is a long way from China. What is the Chinese .22 called you have that is just like it? If it is a Chinese made airgun than Norica is straight up lying. They’ve got made in Eibar, Spain right on the box and also engraved on the gun.
@benjimenfranklin3668
@benjimenfranklin3668 11 ай бұрын
@@airgunsofalaska In a roundabout way they are made in China. The assembly process is in Spain and soon in America too but parts do come from China. This is from there Web page. Conquering the United States. Norica, after 105 years of activity, has positioned itself in more than 60 countries, but curiously, it had never added the United States to its list. The company’s managing director, María Asun Rodríguez, who has taken over from her father Fernando, is very hopeful of putting an end to this commercial anachronism, which “will contribute to meeting the objectives we have set ourselves in the 2022-2024 plan”. At the last trade fair in Las Vegas “we presented a world revolution in conventional break-action airguns, a recoilless system that we have patented in the United States, China, Turkey and Europe. The reception was very good and has led to major contracts in South Africa, Australia and Arabia, as well as opening doors in Canada and the USA, where we are in advanced negotiations to sign an agreement with a major national distributor”. By 2024, they hope to manufacture 35,000 airguns annually. This leap in the United States will contribute to the objectives of increasing production of airguns, whose mechanical parts are manufactured by Elcoro, to “reduce costs and selling prices”. The plan’s goal is to reach an annual production of 35,000 units, with an aggregate growth of 40 percent since the pre-covid years: “We have to take into account that, as a leisure element, the airgun sector did not suffer from the health crisis,” stresses María Asun. In order to take on this industrial leap more effectively, Norica is preparing a series of actions that have begun with a contract with Tekniker to reorganise the Elgeta plant and move from a manual assembly system to one of semi-automatic lines (one for conventional airguns and another for PCP -with compressor-). After completing this work, they are currently preparing the lay out of the facilities, which will increase efficiency and quality and which will include the 35-metre shooting range where the airguns are tested. As María Asun Rodríguez explains, the boost to their market offer includes a series of innovation projects with which they will focus on expanding the catalogue with more economical models and on the efficiency of the production processes. In this way, they are working on creating more affordable alternatives in PCP airguns, which they will present in Las Vegas in 2023. On the one hand, they will offer these models with a fibre stock instead of wood, and the option of mounting a domestically produced barrel, the machining of which will be undertaken by Elcoro. Another vector of improvement will be the standardisation of components for different families of airguns, which will provide industrial and economic synergies

Why did you prefer a spring piston over a gasram?
@airgunsofalaska
@airgunsofalaska 10 ай бұрын
I much prefer a spring piston from a reliability perspective. I’ve got spring piston guns from the mid 80’s that still work perfectly even after being stored for up to a decade or two without being used. I’m very skeptical that a gas ram would exhibit that type of reliability. This past spring I got a Crosman Mag-Fire Extreme and gave a gas ram a try. It recoiled and vibrated just like a springer so didn’t see it as being an improvement. All that said I’ve read very good reviews about the Theobian gas ram system but I’ve never shot one or looked at buying a gun that featured it.
@michaelwthalman
@michaelwthalman 8 ай бұрын
@@airgunsofalaska I very much agree with you on the springers outlasting (usually) the air pistons. I went down to check on some of my "safe queen" air pistons that probably get shot only a handful of times a year and 2 of them were dead. Next to them are my 80s, 90s Beeman/Webley spring pistons all of them are still shooting just fine.

@airgunsofalaska 8 ай бұрын
@@michaelwthalman what a bummer about your gas piston guns. I’ve got one now in the Hatsan .30 cal break barrel. I’m kinda curious to see how long it will last. It jumps and vibrates with each shot so I don’t see any benefit to this system.
@michaelwthalman
@michaelwthalman 8 ай бұрын
@@airgunsofalaska I still have a Hatsan 135 in .30 with a active air piston. And a few other Hatsans with still working air pistons. But, they could go at anytime from just sitting in the safe... The cost of repairing is similar to getting a new gun. If you can find the parts. So, I'm pretty much done on any new air piston break barrels. Will probably get another Gamo CFX springer (very accurate) and try to put mechanical springs into the Hatsans that had Vortex air pistons. If feasible and keep shooting my almost 100 year old (in some cases) multi pumpers. Crosman 101, Sheridans and Benjamins were made to last multiple lifetimes it seems. Oh and probably get a 3rd Crosman 362 and this time convert to a 367. I ended up putting an old 24in .22cal barrel on my recently acquired 2nd 362 and I'am really impressed with it. I'm getting 3/4in 15 shot groups at 30 yards. Which for me is not an easy task. The usual steel breech, extended probe was added. Also, I bent downwards on each side of the trigger sear spring and swapped out the trigger return spring from an old ball point pen and got the trigger pull to just under 2lbs. Makes a huge difference in tightening groups...

@@michaelwthalman I’m a big fan of the Crosman and Benjamin pumpers. The older guns like the 101 were definitely made to last! I shot my custom 367 the other day and was surprised at how decent feeling the trigger has become with use. The 362 model is one of my favorite guns.

@@heathhalfhill6401 I’ve never owned or even shot a Gamo break barrel. The repeater concept appeals to me but a number of my subscribers have left me comments they experienced issues with the Gamo repeaters. I had pretty bad luck with a Crosman Mag-Fire I owned briefly. Lots of guys and YT channels seem to really like the Notos. I’ve got a Benjamin Marauder pistol I rarely shoot so the Notos doesn’t have much appeal to me. I’ve got two other PCP rifles that I rarely shoot as I charge with a hand pump and don’t like how the charging effort ruins my shooting flow. I even bought a NOS Benjamin Maximus thinking its 2000psi fill might be less annoying but I found I just have to pump it up more often. 😆 A Gamo repeater would be interesting to buy and test for the sake of views on my channel. I’ll have to see how much $ I get from KZbin in the next month or two.
