I love my Echo trimmer. It's a model 230S. I have never had any starting or running problems in the many years I've owned it. I use only Shell gasoline and a high-quality 2 cycle oil. I've changed the spark plug once. In the Fall I empty most of the fuel from the tank and then start and run it until it stops. I did this with my old made-in-USA Homelite trimmer and leaf blower and they lasted over 25 years. Thanks for the well-made video.

Thanks so much for your video! Watched it twice before tackling the job. Trimmer was a six year old SRM-230 with a blade attachment that started and idled but bogged down wide open. I really do appreciate the way you compose the video shot and get in with the camera so you can see what you’re working on. You also point the camera in the direction as though you’re working on the piece, not pointing the camera at yourself while you’re working on it. Both make it far more valuable to actually be able to see what you’re doing. To answer your question, the rebuild kit, which is $14 on Amazon, comes complete with new hoses and new priming ball and new spark plug, and all in all is much less of a headache than trying to diagnose the intricacies of the inside of the carburetor in my humble opinion. 😊

You have to have the air filter on when you do any carb adjustments, if you adjust the carb so the engine runs ok with the air filter OFF it will not run properly when you put the air filter back on because of the resistance of the air through the air filter changes the settings, that is why you HAVE to have the air filter on when doing carb adjustments to do it right

With an eBay carburetor (16$) you get a new spark plug, air filter, fuel tank plug/lines with new filter, and a new carburetor... highly recommended! I had to put it in one half turn to get the engine to rev... runs like a champ now. hey Home Garage, I bought a brand new trimmer, paid 250$ for it, starts very good and very easily, idles super fine, the issue im having with it is that when you rev it to the max for extended periods of time, im talking about more than a couple seconds at a time, fuel starts coming out of the air intake, and also the trimmer smokes like a steam locomotive while revved to the max, so im guessing its giving too much fuel ? I need to adjust the H screw ?

This year it started running a bit goofy, almost exactly what you were experiencing here. Start then die, I can counter it by hitting the gas but I think I’ll just spend the 13 bucks for the new carb, plug, primer ball, air filter and gas lines that come with it lol. Emanuel Ravelli from what I understand most of those cheap carburetors come from China the Machining on these carburetors are really horrible the screws some of them won't tighten up some of them stripped out you just get what you pay for the hole that they fuel adjusting screws go down in don't have the right taper they're not they're just drill out and not machine smooth so you can never really get a good running mower or weed eater or whatever

I had a Murry that would only run with the choke on, took the carb apart, was very clean, sprayed carb cleaner throughout and put it back together still would only run with choke on so I used a cut off wheel and cut slots in the adjustment screws. The one closest to the engine I turned 1-3rd turn, the screw away from the engine, I turned 1/4 turn, engine started right up, ran for about 30 seconds reved it up readjusted both screws it would rev up smooth and high RPM, plus it idled well too . I have learned a lot from folks on here, its really amazing how easy so much of this stuff can be. A BIG thank you to everyone that helps us how to do stuff.

Are you using 50.1 fuel mix if so that could be your problem. Try 40.1 that should fix it. Them older echo need 40.1

Would it be better to run 40:1 for newer weedeaters aswell?

Always follow the recommended ratio for your machine. Mine are mostly 40 but I have a few that require 36 and even a 32:1 mixture. Thanks for the comment Dan Skorheim.

To answer your question they are more than decent they are brilliant bits of kit ..I run a grass cutting team in the uk and although echo is not a well used/known brand over here I can honestly say i just can't fault them I have an Echo chain saw that's 35 years old still in use I have approx 5 strimmers the youngest being 3 years old all of which are worked hard and i mean hard. My counterparts use the usual Stihle huskvana if thats how you spell the names and due to the units letting them down they tend to sell each season ie repair costs out weights keeping them. I simply do not have this problem and save a fortune each year.. In fact i am surprised you have an Echo with a problem but being bent shaft I guess its not commercial but again i have a bent shaft "never had to look at it " I would recommend Echo every day of the week.. Thank you !!!

The carburetor kit for my Stihl was the same price as an aftermarket carburetor so I bought the carburetor and it works well. The carb came with fuel line, fuel filter, air filter, 2 spare primer bulbs and spark plug.

I’m going to go ahead and rebuild the carb Because it’s starting to run erratic but if you have any echo keep it the rest of your life. They are that good!

Great video, and thank you for sharing you expertise with us, If I may I like to ad a couple of tips just for other users/readers can have a good chance of getting their machine running again, 1-blow off all of the loose dirt and grime,,,maybe use some brake cleaner spray can from the auto parts to clean off all of the junk, and have a clean exterior, (less chances to dropping dirt or junk into the the engine) 2- I highly recommend to put an old towel or small carpet under your working unit,,just in case something falls out or jumps out, and this way you can catch it or find it. 3-some kind of blower dust off can or a compressor air line to blow off all of the junk on the internal parts (not sure if you can use brake cleaner or choke cleaner to just spray of the junk of this parts) and last I would definitely would try the 1.00 fix before spending 15.00

Good video ! Very well detailed. When i have a 2 stroke that won't stay running, first thing I do is take the spark arrestor screen out of the muffler. Often they'll become clogged up & will only allow the machine to run a few seconds up to a minute before shutting down. If that don't produce any results then I dive into the carb.

I got the trimmer for free. PO never maintained it and the residual fuel had turned to applesauce. So I replaced the tank, lines, and carb at the same time. Tank (with lines and new filter) was $12. The carb (with filter and spare lines) was $11.50. Both were ordered online - free shipping!

Libslayer Can you drop the information for the parts you bought? I need to rebuild/replace mine.
@Libslayer5 жыл бұрын
My trimmer was a Bolens/Riobi so the numbers may be different for your application. What I did was to take pictures of the trimmer to capture make/model info (cuz my short-term memory stinks!). Then I went online and did a couple of basic searches using the model # and "fuel tank" or "fuel line" as keywords. The most substantial hit I got was for ereplacements (dot) com. They had exploded view parts diagrams showing part numbers. I bought some parts from them and also did searches using the part # to make sure their prices were competitive (in some cases they were, in others not). They listed the part # for the carb but said no longer available. A quick search using the part # located the carb at ebay for 1/3 the price! Good luck Tony!
