Norm Macdonald is the only comedian who the mere thought of makes me crack up and smile at the beautiful absurdity of life. For me, that’s something special. Some people can write a joke and be funny while others can write jokes that are funny and also make you think. Norm Macdonald did both of those and also added “unfunny funny” just to make the comedy purists and himself laugh. Never caved in to the PC crowd and stayed true to himself. Legend.

He talked about his faith in God during several different interviews/podcasts. It’s honestly the most profound conversation I’ve ever heard from a celebrity (or many people I know personally). It was very deep and philosophical. I also listened to Bob Saget’s podcast after Norm died and Bob said that whenever someone in his family was ill, Norm always said he would pray for them. Norm even tweeted about praying for Trump when he had COVID and sharply criticized the Hollywood celebrities who sang that awful “Imagine” collaboration at the beginning of the pandemic because the song says “Imagine there’s no heaven”. Norm said that was a terrible thing to say at a time when people were dying in droves.

@@deb9806 what scathing things did he say about Trump? I know he wasn’t a diehard fan of him, but I did watch an interview where he said he avoided Trump jokes because it’s difficult even for a good comic to do funny jokes about Trump. He also talked about having a casual friendly acquaintance with him before his presidency.
@deb9806
@deb9806 3 жыл бұрын
@@impasse0124 He didn't like the fear mongering, the demonizing of Mexicans (2 interviews but second was a tag on to other thought and the guy cut him off a bit.) He did tire of the jokes from others and didn't like HIlary either. (liked guy in calif) Part of earlier interview before he won with reporter: I'm not interested in politics insofar as if Donald Trump were to become president. Then if he did, I’d become political. But Jesus, this guy I would never want as president. This is like Huey Long territory. You could really see him being a fascist - the inability to apologize and the way everybody is a “loser” or a “winner.” Like when he says the thing about Rosie O’Donnell, I mean, I don’t know if I want a president who hates one person like that. Rosie O’Donnell must be petrified! It’s one thing if it’s a rich guy calling you all those names, but it’s the leader of the free world and he hates your guts? Just for his anti-Rosie stance is enough for me to be afraid. What accounts for his popularity, do you think? I don’t know. To me, it’s weird - scapegoating Mexicans as a sport. That really resonated, you know? You’d figure if a guy said Mexicans are rapists that would pretty well knock him out instead of vaulting him up. Like, am I supposed to think if he went up 8 percent, then nobody is against the “Mexicans are rapists” stance and 8 percent are for it? It’s so bizarre. But he can win every debate by not being afraid to be apolitical and just being brutal. The other person can’t do that - they can’t strike back in the same way. He’s already said Hillary has broken the law and should go to jail. So that’s what he’ll say. So far everything has worked, and that will work, too. He says truthful things, and that’s what people like about him - but he just seems so terrible as a person. You keep hearing about what a gift he is to comedy. They say humor is the ray of light that illuminates the evil or whatever, but I was reading that in Germany and Adolf Hitler times, everybody was making fun of Hitler. Every cartoon was against Hitler, there were comedy troupes doing sketches about Hitler being an idiot with a stupid mustache and what a stupid little idiot he was. So anyway, there goes that theory about the power of comedy. It doesn’t work at all. That’s seriously how I feel about Trump. It sounds very cruel to say about a person, but when the country is responding positively to rough comments - and those are just the ones he’ll say, kind of anti, everything is anti, against, stuff like that - well, all I know is that I’m going to make sure my kid has his Canadian citizenship.
@impasse0124

@@deb9806 hmmm interesting. It makes sense because Norm didn’t seem to like people who were harsh and/or unforgiving and Trump fits that description for sure. But like you said, he disliked Hillary as well so it wasn’t a partisan issue, it was a character issue.

I've been a Carlin fan since 1992 and never thought he would get moved down a notch as my favorite of all time. That's how great Norm was. Nobody has brought me the laughter like Normy. I still watch and read as much Carlin as I can to keep it fresh but Norm MacDonald experienced a more critical era than GC (with overlapping of course). The '60's and '70's were also a critical period but George had a lot of help with the load (Saul, Hicks, Kinison, and more) but today I feel like Norm fought this crap alone. I look at photo montages and play Sinatras "My Way" because that is what Norm did. Fearless. This is the best Norm tribute I've seen and I've watched a lot of them. I loved Norm's comedy and his delivery was my favorite as I model my humor the same way. Thank you Norm for all the laughs, you are a legend to me, RIP.

The fact that Crowder, a man I enormously respect for his political views, pays touching tribute to Norm MacDonald, the funniest man alive (until recently) only proves that men (sorry, 'people',) of good character find one another

I was a fan of Norm as a young man. Lost track of him for years. Crowder brought me back Norm in 2018-19. For that I'm grateful to you. I've been consuming Norm material voraciously since Crowder brought what was happening to Norm on the View to my attention. Thank you Norm and thank you Crowder. Forever grateful to both of you.

Thanks crowder and crew! This was a legit tribute and thank you to norm. Unlike the media's and so called main stream talk show comedian hosts tributes. Never really knew knew norm but I seen his movies and cameos and thought he was funny. Just started listening to him since I heard what happened. He's a funny guy. And the fact he stood away from politics and never followed like a sheep is a huge bonus to how awesome of a guy he was.

Great tribute to Norm by you all. I saw his stand up years ago. 1 of his jokes that makes me laugh, when it pops in my head. I'll paraphrase "There's 2 classifications in cliff diving - grand champion and stuff on a rock. I got into an argument over some of what you talked about back in 95. Thank you for making the bad stuff funny and standing purposefully, Norm! God bless

I lost my faith in my early 20s. I was disillusioned by how the Catholic Church ran Ireland for a while. But with that God shaped hole in my heart didn't know what to do with life. I brought faith back into my life in rehab. & with that I have tried not to be a judgemental bitch. I do fail sometimes but at least with faith I have learned that the way I can live my life is to forgive others & forgive myself. I am a bysexual alcahoic 30 year old woman. So I don't know if this would be a complement to Norm. But for the last 3 years I have been lisening to Norm Macdonald and the joy, laughter & understanding of what comady should be he has given me so much! May his soul rest in heaven. And may his comedy continue to inspire!

Everyone try this? Drift off to sleep on videos of Norm as a talk show guest. Your mind still hears all that while asleep, and it's one of the healthiest things you could ever do for your mental health. - When a man has hours of his best, only as a talk show guest, that's pretty special.
