I was sent these by submoashooting.com for ballistics gel testing.
Overall a good performing bullet. Unfortunately these needed a bit more of a charge then last 180 bullets I tested so I was not able to show how low they can go. I will have to get more bullets for low velocity testing. The velocity difference in the two high velocity shots would put the bullet shot out of the 30-06 equivalent to a 350 yard shot at sea level form the 300 PRC.
The 30-06 impacted at 2468 fps and had a retained weight of 159.4 grains and the 300 PRC impacted at 3000 fps and had a retained weight of 110.4 grains.
I can not find information on Norma's website for velocity ratings. 2000 fps is a pretty safe minimum velocity for most hunting bullets.

/06 & PRC were very impressive results. Are you intending to hit it at another time around the 2000 mark? That would be good to see & know. Are you planning to do a table top display of recovered bullets. That is a big help to my son & I. If not, I understand. I don't wish to inconvenience you with extra time & energy. Thank you a bundle for great content & data.

Yes I plan on testing these again. I was only sent 6 so I will have to order some more which I don't mind doing. I'm saving all my recovered bullets to put in a poxy across a bar top one of these days. I should one of these days take the ones that I think performed the best and kind of do an overall of what I like about them and what order of preference.

Good bullits for big game is Lapua Mega and Sako Hammerhead, not super hammerhead. But only in moderate speeds! Cost effective ! If you want to use magnums like 7mm and 300 wm you better go with a different bullit. Per

So do you think these test would also show results one would get with rifles with 16" barrels that give up velocity because of shorter barrels? I really like your gel test. I’m wanting to hunt with my Springfield M1A SOCOM 2 with 16" barrel and I do hunt with a TC Compass 2 compact with a 16" barrel. I shoot Winchester 180 PSP .308 through it and it consistently completely penetrates out to 200 yards and through my chronograph it still averages over 2500 fps. I know this puts it roughly between 170 grain 30,30 loading and .308 win 22" barrel gun. I will not shoot past 200 yards with this gun. Your thoughts please. I’ve hand loaded for over 40 years and yeah I’m old school. I have thousands of .308 cal bullets on hand but they are between 20 and 30 years old. I’ve found loading new manufacture cup and core bullets are not made the same now as 20 years ago. The new ones just seem to fragment and leave no blood trail.

I have done a few tests with different twist rate barrels and reduced velocities, and you can reduce your velocity to simulate long-range, and the bullet performs the same on impact tegardless of RPM'S. (I have only tested RPM differences up to 80,000 RPM'S. The videos are on my channel) So yes, matching velocities on bullets to get an understanding of how that bullet is going to perform at different ranges is a good test. You can take your chronograph information, punched that into a ballistic calculator, and it will give you your velocities at different ranges, and you'll know the effectve range of the bullet you're using if you have found the minimum velocity they will still mushroom at. With that said, there are bullets like burgers that very consistently tumble after impact, creating extensive damage, and when they grenade, they are way super destructive, and when they don't they still look like they did a good job even though they just tumbled. That is something i do not like in a bullet, and I will not use Burger bullets, although they are quite lethal. I shoot the 150gr Partitions in my Christianson Arms 308 Scout and have it set up to be good to just past 500 yards, even on elk. I prefer the 168gr ABLR'S, but for some reason, I can't get this Christiansen to shoot good with anything much over 150gr. Great lightweight rifle, and I have not had any issues on game using lighter bullets. (Yes, I tested in gelatin before in the field) Hope that answers your question.

hey..Norma bondstrike is top bullet. You dont need to reduce that velocity so much. Let us see what it does to that gel with normal velocity about 2500-2800fps

I can't move them fast enough to keep 2500-2800 fps at 500 plus yards and want to know how bullets will perform at longer ranges.

@@spacepathfinder1 depending on the cartridge driving it and rifle delivering it and the muzzle velocity yes this bullet could do its job well at 800 yards as long as the shooter can place the shot. Now if the test you saw was shot into water then it may have given the false illusion that the bullet performed well. Water does not compress and it makes bullets start to mushroom quicker and a bit more aggressively making the explosion more aggressive and it does not resemble at all what a bullet will do in live tissue in regards to hunting game animals. So if you are ever watching or doing test with water jugs and not ballistics gelatin just know it won't have that same effect on game and at really long range may look good shooting water but may not start to open at all on game.

@@simplemindedfella You are totally on the right track. The science has been long settled regarding high velocity performance. If you want to shoot any cartridge above 2400 fps, simply find the monolithic bullet that shoots best out of your rifle and call it done, no other tests needed. Period! I applaud what you are doing. By seeking out the best performing, low velocity bullet, you are filling a knowledge void that has been long overlooked. One pet peeve I have, is when people focus on yards rather than velocity. You often correct yourself (and I really appreciate this), but too many people fail to recognize that distance alone means absolutely nothing when predicting bullet performance. It's not just what a 308 Winchester does vs a 300 WM either. It's also barrel length. I roll my eyes when someone says something like, 'such and such cartridge does great out of a 308'. It is another meaningless statement. Are we talking about a 16" barrel, or a 26" barrel? There could be 300-400 fps difference between those rifles! Please continue doing what you are doing, focus on low and medium velocity. Maybe once you seem to find a half dozen 'perfect', low velocity bullets, there can be shoot off, where you compare those bullets at higher and higher velocities until you have one overall winner. Cheers!

Depends on which cartridge you're talking about. My 308 caliber barrels are 1:7, 1:8, and 1:10. I do plan on getting a 1:12 just for testing RPM differences more so then what I already have.
