Normanton Church: A Photographic Gem In Rutland Water | Astro & Sunrise Photography

An overnight visit to Normanton Church saw me and Mark photographing this iconic location before and during sunrise where we managed to capture a beautiful astro landscape, and a colourful morning sunrise.

Really epic and lovely shots of the church structure, the environment and the natural lighting of clouds and of the water and shoreline on your Pentax K-1. Absolutely brilliant! @@GeoffMoorePhotography Geoff, thank you for your response. You never know who your images might inspire. I am so glad that when the church structure was not submerged in building Rutland Water reservoir. It would have been such a waste.

@@wetlandweasel yeah the history of the church and its potential demise is very interesting, reminded me of several villages and what not around the country that have been lost under the waves of lakes and reservoirs only to surface once again in prolonged dry spells, thankfully people had the initiative not to allow this to happen to this fine building. In some ways its now more popular than ever as a wedding venue then it probally was a church.

Cheers Paul. The light pollution from nearby was actually a blessing as it illuminated the Church. But it wasn't so intense to wash out the scene.

Thank you Nigel. For me the astro shots were quite unexpected from this location as we fear the light pollution might be a little too strong to really capture anything of the night sky, but was pleasantly surprised at was possible here. The light polution from the nearby hotel was actually beneficial to the composition too as it aided in adding some ambient light to the church.

I’ve only visited. This place as a family day trip really, van though I alway take my camera. Has martins said I think I need to visit with my photography head on. Really enjoyed this video mate

Thanks Steve. I had seen the location on youtube several times and such wanted to try my hand at photographing it too. Well that itch is now scratched. What I wasn't really expecting is the size of Rutland Water, there must be several longer shot compositions for the church to be had as well as undiscovered compositions in their own right from the location. I'm confident that there is a 24 mile cycle path around Rutland Water, so many new photographic discoveries to be made I think. - Will be looking forward to seeing your take on the location.

Very nice Geoff, some really nice images there, especially those astro landscape ones for me. Amazingly its somewhere I've never been and it's only an hour down the road, after seeing your video I think it's about time I fixed that. When I looked in the past though I wasn't sure about where to park during the crazy hours landscape photographers like to visit 😂 If you don't mind me asking where did you park please?

Hi Martin. thank you for your comment. Parking is an issue outside of daylight hours.. You could try at the Hotel > Normanton Park or there is a side road verge parking space for 2 or 3 cars with that's used by the locals I would assume when walking the dogs > ///inhaled.airliners.club its which is probably less than a 5min walk in to the Church and at 3am in the morning no one will be parked there.
