The place was just bought in November for 31,million by an investment firm. They were looking at a renovation cost of 3/4 of what they paid for it, an now their insurance is going to cover most of it…. I don’t think this fire was an accident.

@@nickpreece5360 is there a reason why that dispatcher had trouble getting a hold of the Chiefs that is on scene over the radio? She had to pause several times with so much traffic that is going on?

@@albertomadeirajr7824 most likely because a Chief would would swap to an ops channel or was giving on scene orders, talking with RJ management, on the phone with additional resources like the FMO and so on.

Why is a reported building fire a "first alarm" to start with
@hosedragger-2042 жыл бұрын
Sounded like dispatch had bad info from 9-1-1 and thought it was just a room and contents fire

The building is right in town. Most likely smoke & fire was seen from the station or by incoming volunteers. My local areas dispatch an hour from this fire will often go to a first before arrival and sometimes will go to a second upon arrival depending on the situation. Our dispatch sent a task force of 7 engines a tanker & my towns tower to this fire from an hour away.

Standard practice for fire services nationwide. Some locations require confirmation before even going to an official first alarm. In some locations..a dispatcher can put out a full first alarm if there are reports of smoke, flame, or reports of people trapped. Usually battalion chiefs, captains or crew leader of the first engine to arrive makes the decision on a first or second alarm in the beginning. The incident commander will decide on additional alarms after that. There are a few situations where they have gone to a second almost right away...but those are rare. This is done to control resources...to prevent waste, to prevent too many units being tied up where they might not be needed, and to prevent units from showing up to a fire all at once before an Incident command is established to control who is going where. It would be additional chaos if 4 or 5 alarms worth of equipment arrived all at once before an assessment has been done to determine where they are needed. Also...for safety purposes...chiefs need to know where firefighters are. Control of the scene is required to do this.

@ Jeff Dillon I happened to read the comments first and I was surprised someone asked C2 to go to “2” which usually means go to channel 2. I don’t know the area but from what I’ve listened to so far it appears that the county/ area share the channel. Dispatcher was very good, it sounds like she was pulling teeth to just get IC to answer her. Not sure if there was another dispatcher but it sounds like she was the sole dispatcher for the incident. In my opinion the IC failed at this fire. Countless units ask IC for instructions/ assignments and no response from him. At 28:29 IC is not available and from a FB posting apparently he had decided to engage in firefighter duties. Poor leadership is what gets people killed. FB posting says fire escalated and if proper leadership was in place damage would have been far less.

Honestly they did awesome to only lose that 1 wing and not the whole building. That whole area is a bunch of tiny towns which become huge traffic resort areas may to october. They are all volunteer and, as you know hurting for volunteers. The building is 50 years old with no sprinklers in that wing & early on the fire alarm burned out. The 1 dispatcher does fire and police, the building sits up on a hilltop & there were very high winds all day. I'm an hour from there & our local dispatch (Lakes Region Mutual Fire Aid) sent a task force of 7 engines a tanker & a tower to the scene.
