Thank you for the video. My grandfather it was born in Bessarabia in 1896 and left in 1913. He passed away when I was young and I am trying to learn his culture.

A lot of these names are Ukrainian, but the dialect sounds more similar to Bulgarian, which is closer related to the Old Church Slavonic language, which connects all East Slavic peoples. Plus the Ukrainian flag is everywhere. Romanians tried to force assimilate the Russians and Ukrainians in the area back in the mid 1900’s. surnames don’t lie either. My surname is of Cossack origin and my family lived in Bessarabia for a while. Doesn’t make us Romanian. We are Ukrainian.

@@mattbellacotti Most if not all slavic elements in Bessarabia are colonists brought after the russian annexation of 1812, while de rightful owners were forcefully deported or russified. The local moldovan/romanian percentage at annexation was 95% in the region, falling to 56% at the end of the 19th century, while the bulgarians, gagauz, russians, germans, jews and ukrainians came after the ethnic cleansing of the land. No matter of you're a moskal or hahol, you're at thief in those lands like your thieving murderous ancestors. Any complaints you might have from the occupation during WW2 is payback for what your kind did to us.
