My absolute favourite stock was the standard tube stock, I remember them well and they last ran on the Northern City Line till 1966 when they were pensioned off to live on the Isle of Wight.

Thanks for posting. Link was sent to me from a retired line controller. I worked at Cobourg Street control room from 1997 to 2014 . Recognized quite a few faces in this video. As someone commented, 30 years a flown by. Have shared with others I used to work with also. Cracking!

Excellent! Glad you liked the video . This was actually given to me hard copy from a medically retired motorman and engineers train driver of 44 years long ago . Your retired colleague wasn’t Mr Hardy was it by any chance ? Regards . Richard .

Apparently I was at Ashfield House in 2017 when I started in late November 2016, we went to West Ashfield mockup Station for training, learnt how 4th rail works, telephone or radio with X mean not working.

Between the music and the editing/structure, this whole video is borderline experimental. I can't imagine who the intended audience would have been. Imagine showing up for induction on your first day at LUL and sitting in an office watching this for 40 minutes - you'd either be bored out of your brain, or tripping balls..

I feel it is typical of its time. I rather enjoyed it as a time capsule of a more pleasant time.

1959 and 1972 Mk1 on the Northern Line. Good times and part of my childhood.
@oludotunjohnshowemimo4344 жыл бұрын
@Leonard Ssenkindu the 1972mk1 was built to assist the 1959 stock as there were not enough trains to run all services on the Northern line back in the day. There was no time to create a new design and so the 1972mk1 was basically a seven car crew operated version of the 1967 stock which operated on the Victoria line till 2011. The 1972mk1 was eventually withdrawn from the Northern line in the late 1990s as they were not reliable in performance and they were a smaller batch. Some cars were moved into the 1967 stock but in the middle as they did not have automatic driving equipment installed. Others have been driver only converted and mixed in with the 1972mk2 stock as half part of the train (3 and 4 cars) as replacements for damaged mk2 carriages

My favourite Tube line. As I've said in other posts, you couldn't beat the 1938 train stock. The noise of the motors, the bouncy seats. I must go to the Isle of Wight. I believe they bought them and run the 1938 stock as their overground trains.
@Richardsrailway6 жыл бұрын
Paul b I agree. However make your trip soon as the 38’s are struggling on the island . Once the 73’s go on the Piccadilly they will replace the 38 stock on the island .

Back in the day when the Northern line was getting bashed a lot for poor services and trains breaking down a lot but it has changed a lot for the better. Now converted to automatic operation, extension to Nine Elms and faster than ever and upgraded 1995 stock trains. A small number of ex-Northern line 1972mk1 trains have been converted to driver only operation and combined with the mk2s as replacements for damaged and written off mk2 carriages, currently on the Bakerloo Line

Although the long intro with the dark, ominous music doesn't fit and is not at all appropriate with the context of the video!!... I did love it!! Ahaha!! That unmistakable 80s electronic synthesizer only funky beat, mixed with that dark aspect as well!! To be honest all of the music in this was great lol!! I do love a bit of 80s synthesizer electro tunes which to be honest are pretty shit at the end of the day, but that's half of the appeal!!
