I have a story about someone punishing dice in my local club. It's not my story I was told this by his girlfriend. But rather than making it an embarrassing public ordeal, he just bought new dice, put his old dice in the freezer, then line up his new dice along his garden table before getting out, the now frozen dice, and proclaiming to his new dice that they would face the same fate as these dice if they failed him, before bringing a sledgehammer down upon them.

Hi, first stories writer here. Just wanted to say a big thanks to you all in the comments and to North, of course, I really appreciate all input! As an update, I've taken some time off work just to focus fully on myself and my partner and to confirm, it's exactly as North said. I've done my best, made plenty of cuppas and hot water bottles and with a bit of time we've both been getting back onto our feet and while it will take a while to be truly normal again, we're well on our way. It took a week or so, but once I got a moment alone the emotions did come and I felt a world better for it. Sometimes it just takes a moment of quiet reflection to help process! Thankfully I now know I'm not a hobby psychopath! I've since spent a heap of time on my starter box set and have got my first terminator squad and captain painted up (pictures in the hobby general of the Discord!), I even got my parter some dire wolves from AoS to paint also :) life is hard, but we'll all get through

On the first dude, we’ve been there … you’re not alone. These things tend to hit you one day, you might be watching a video or playing a song and everything will flow out. Happened when my mum died and I was watching the iron giant with my daughter. Stick with it my son!

To the first stories poster, you are completely normal. I have been through this same situation on multiple occasions and every single time I felt the same way as you do/did! Hold strong man, it’s tough but you will get through it.

With the first story I understand completely. When my father passed away i had to fill in the man roll for my family. I didn't feel sad but felt instinctively took on that roll. 2 weeks later i was taken to the hospital with chest pains. Turns out it was brought on my stress. The Doc said a death of a loved one can be a trigger for it even if its at a later time.

I remember having those kind of players trying to break my game, I'm used to call that the Skyrim syndrome. they think they can do anything they want like in a rpg video games and getting away with it, totally oblivious of the GM or any true roleplay elements. They got all killed, we used "fate" points to bring them back to the first obvious bad choice (attacking city guards while being lvl 1) and what they did was establish a strategy to try to take down the guards again...

First guy: baby loss. Its hard man, I've been there. For her she has it growing inside her so the bond is there. for you at that early stage its just a blob on the screen so its hard to connect to it. I think this is why you are confused at not feeling anything. It's not as 'real' for the man at that stage. When my wife was pregnant last year I didnt want to commit emotionally too early in case anything happened. (It did and it was a horrific night in hospital including emergency surgery that devastated us.) She had 6 weeks off work and I was back to work in 3 days. We couldnt afford for me to not work as well. Just had to get on with it, we both needed me to be on it. If emotions crop up let them out in a safe place or go for a long walk etc. You'll feel better for it. North is right, the fact that you are questioning is this right - shows you are a good man. This will be a strengthening experience for your family. Also, keep enjoying the painting I also find it very relaxing. Havent played a game in ages but painting makes me still feel like part of it

My dudes, I have had the dice moment, myself. I never went that hard with it, though, but it was absolutely my dice that were losing me games. Sat down with my group and we rolled them a bunch, kept track on paper, and my dice were rolling 1's and 2's just under 80% of the rolls. It wasn't just me. It wasn't just my luck. It wasn't me being bad at the game. I was using terrain and as many tactics as I could muster to save my units and it was all for naught. It was actually my dice. And it wasn't how I was rolling them, because I had other people rolling them, too. I lost a Leviathan Dreadnought to something that had to roll 6's to wound and failed every single 2+ save against it. Then that unit turned to my other Leviathan Dreadnought and deleted it in the same manner. First one was return fire, second was overwatch. I lost both of my Leviathans on round 1 to a unit that had no business being able to do that. This was in Heresy, by the way. Needless to say that unit got MVP and honours. We made sure of it. I emptied my bag of dice into the bin and went and bought new ones online. They're working a lot better for me.

Back in second edition 40k I did more watching others playing than playing myself because I was still very new and I was trying to decide if I wanted to actually spend the money to get an army together for myself (I did later but that's neither here nor there.) So one game I was watching was a game between the big Ultramarine player in the local store and someone else, i don't remember who, but he rolled to fire his assault cannons and for both of them he rolled three 1s which means that they jammed and were useless for the rest of the game. Dude just grabbed those three dice and walked out the store and threw them across the highway, and they are likely still there somewhere.

So, I actually really miss Demonhunters/Witch Hunters, not for the brokenness but I miss a proper, combined inquisitorial force. Grey knights really suffer from lack of units, having better access to other members of Hereticus or Malaeus would be better.

I have a set of “Luxury” 30K Thousand Sons dice that I spent way more money than is reasonable on at my local GW store. I know it’s dumb, but I liked them and I work hard as a heavy equipment mechanic, so fuck it, I can do what I want with my money. Anyway, these dice roll TERRIBLE for me. After my last game, my brother told me I might want to melt those dice down and get new ones. It’s honestly pretty painful in the most hilarious and Tzeentchian way. I’d say I’ll start threatening them, like the player in the story, but then they’d probably just get even worse and make me feel even more terrible about spending too much money on them. 😝

Having a stoic mindset is a tool, not the goal. It helps you deal with the crisis in the moment, but eventually you will need to talk with SOMEONE about it and release those feelings. They need an outlet or they will destroy you from the inside. There is nothing unmanly about that - in the past, I have seen the biggest and toughest bikers cry at the loss of their dogs, so go ahead and show your emotions in a safe area.

To Faust, men express and feel emotions differently to women. We dont need to break down for our sorrow to be genuine. Your role is to be the rock for your partner, so you can take care of her and she doesnt have to take care of your and struggle with her own heartache. However, it can help her to see your emotions. It really can. Dont become a mess, dont become a burden, but she needs to know she isnt the only one feeling the pain. Dont be ashamed of your strength. Dont think youre strange for being a masculine. God Bless you.

For the story on losing the pregnancy. When your partner is very emotional you can sometimes feel you must be the rock or foundation. You need to process in your own way. Literally was typing this as you dropped the same wisdom North.

Being stoic isn't necessarely healthy, you can cry and let out your feelings for a while, it's not a "woman thing", it's human. You can't fix others if you don't fix yourself first

Around the 40 min mark you start discussing 3rd edition grey knights with their Daemonhunter codex. The faction was not broken and OP as you describe it, it was actually the weakest faction overall in the game. Your only AT options where the Dreadnought or Landraider. So all of your Dreads where forced to go Lascannon Missile launcher loadout. Your regular dude was 25 pts for S6 which only mattered in combat and a storm bolter. Compare that to the 15 pts marine and your looking at S4 W2 vs S6 W1. The GK troops had no cheap transport. Your regular 5 man squad already ticked at 125 points, roughly 10% of your list considering 1500 pts games where the norm. I have this feeling you have the codex they released in 5th edition in your head. You where anything but Meta chasing in 3rd with the DH codex.

I can easily explain this. You aren't a psycho at all, you were never given the chance to get attached to your unborn child . its as simple as that from a mans perspective. Ill be brutally honest when my first son was born for the first month I had this thing in the back of my head telling me to try not to get too attached because anything can happen and they can be gone. Sure id be upset but a mans side of a woman losing a pregnancy the science of it in your man brain is that you never got to meet the child so in your man brain there isn't a whole lot to be upset about

Love the vids man but this dnd story was awful just seems like he wanted to have a sook about this player, like you said a session zero of some sort helps with this and that’s a pretty basic concept to have to avoid these sort of things. Or if you get this frustrated at player autonomy just write a book

Based North talking about not emoting in front of your partner. Hes right too, women lose respect and confidence in a man who displays feelings. They say they wont, they say they want men to be more emotionally sensative. This is women thinking with their feelings again. Its been proven time and time again that if you display your hurt, you will lose the girl.
