That mother is just like my own. Very, very similar circumstances. She only left our abuser when she felt her two daughters were in danger, and that was years after I’d left the house, the country, and gotten married. She apologized for how she allowed him to treat me after almost a decade, but it felt very perfunctory. I don’t want an apology, I want you to have listened to me when I warned you about him at 11 years old. She has exceedingly poor taste in men beyond my own father and no relationship of hers since their divorce has been healthy or gone well. She’s moved pretty far away now, so it’s mostly just text contact and I’m perfectly ok with that.

Fun fact: people often like to use the saying "defending her children like a lioness defends her cubs". Which I find very funny, because if the lion gets defeated by another lion who then takes over the pride, the victor almost always kills the loser's cubs, and the lionesses don't object. Sometimes, even happened in ancient kingdoms. 5:19 When I hear this "head office" stuff, it makes me think that GW is part of the British government or some sort of public institution, where anyone can register a complaint when they are unhappy with a clerk.

~17:00 Note that the absuive guy did not apologize to the kid he assaulted but merely said the magic words to the mother of the assaulted child, and she is so dumb to take that as sufficient. These types are never sorry. They only say magic words and expect people to let them continue. I know these large scale examples, I know the ones on the schoolyard, but I'll throw in a small scale one that works the exact same way to illustrate these types only say this for magic expectancy: We had some criminals living in the apartment two stories below, and as I later learned the house was shadowed by the police for a long time. Nothing big, just drugs and electronics theft. Mainly, the guy who lived there made some very bad choices as with whom to associate. His drunk friends would late at night ring my doorbell, sometimes an hour and a half past midnight, to get into his apartment. They had a key for his apartment, but not the main door. The landlord is a corrupt miser and pennygrabber or what you might say in English, that he doesn't hand it extra keys for down there. My doorbell is some hacked together crap the maintenance guy added outside next to the actual bellboard, because the cheap hack-company that added the extra apartments on the top floor "forgot" to add doorbells. The story of his house is a story worth telling alone, I just want to illustrate as to why my doorbell stands out and for some reason, despite being in the corner behind the bellboard, where it is way harder to reach, it seems to magically attract people to push that button, never anyone else's. I haven't slept much for 6 years, only 3-5h a night with sleepmeds, less without, due to... not so nice things that happened back then. I guess you could say it is hobby-group-related, but nothing to do with tabletop. More tech in general. You could say I am quite on edge, and when the doorbell rings it is always a shock moment of varying degree. Anytime it rings and I don't expect anyone, it is... not fun, and in the back of my mind always stirs the chained hope that it might be one of my old friends. You can imagine that doesn't go well at night, especially when finally getting some shuteye. The first time with any neighbour I don't make a fuss, anyone can forget a key at some point. On the ground floor was a family of 5, and the kids didn't have house-keys because the landlord was a Geizhals even with them, so when the mother wasn't home, the kids couldn't even get into the house, which led to panic of the youngest daughter once because the mom didn't even leave a note then and the phone was depleted and there was no cable to charge it. There's more to that, but that's another story. I held no ill will towards their situation, and by the time I had learned what was going on down there I considered just offering my extra-keys that took forever to find a keymaker to be able to make, to just give to the kids, but the family had moved out by then. My health issues flatten me for weeks at times, and it doesn't feel great being late on such things. Point being: When other neighbours used me as a door opener frequently, I started to get very miffed. It took about a dozen times before, for the first time in my life, I shouted down the stairs that I am not other people's door opener. I heard foreign languages cursing back up. Eventually I decided that in the future, if my legs allowed it, I would get down the stairs and confront whoever. Because it makes no sense that everyone has keys for inside but not outside. If there's noone at home at midnight, then who is coming there if not the original tenant? At least one outside key must be there... I managed. Next time it turned out it was some "friends" of the guy living in the (as it turned out later criminal) apartment. Guy made apologies that he just got there to use the toilet, the actual guy was at a party, and it totally wouldn't happen again. And then it happened again. And again. The third time I threatened him with calling the police. I take too long for these things but you could say it is a good training session to for once stand up for myself. No doorbells from that non-tenant anymore. However, later on there were blood drops on the stairs and a full sized bloody hand print next to that door. The glass-wood-framing of that over 100 year old apartment door was also more and more demolished over the coming months. Eventually there was a commotion at night, lots of banging doors and yelling in foreign language. That was certainly not the usual "friend." And I might have even called the police for that without the prologue. As I later learned the actual tenant was taken into protective custody, then went to prison himself. The broken door got some ugly plywood plastered into it. Then his mother turned up to "clean" the place. A confused older woman, nasty person, with two dogs with her, one a pitbull that I doubt she could hold on to if it wanted to take a dash. She rang at my door. Again. It happened about 3 times. She had keys. I don't know why she did it, I suppose she failed to use them right as she also fumbled with the apartment door lock. First time is a freebie, second time I tell her I'm not her door opener, and she used the magic words. Third time she I get annoyed, confront her again, the pitbull is chill (I bet she has this poor thing only too have an automated intimidation bonus towards people to do as she pleases), and she insisted that it was okay that she did what she did because she had said sorry. I wasn't sure that was the actual mother, until later I heard from the ground floor family that she indeed was and that they knew her from years ago (positively it sounded) - then why not ring THEIR bell when they were clearly there? - Just what is wrong with people? Anyway, the insistence of this (not yet ancient, but long past her prime) hag that having said sorry despite doing something you were told not to do yet again justifying it being okay and that YOU are the problem for not letting her do as she pleases and being pacified by those magic words shows the mentality of these psycho-abusive lunatics. There's them, and then there's the technically good people they condition into the same broken beliefsystem. The "friend of the son" also expected the sorry to work as a magic word, but he at least made an effort to convince me that it was totally not on purpose and an emergency (After the dozen times before that I never said anything for... not so good personal reasons taking priority in my head). You know, in Germany, noone bats an eye when you take a pee at a tree or a bush at night. And the alleged party he came from certainly had facilities too. Noone that age can't hold the big business it in until he gets home. I understand people are full of sh, but I don't understand why I need to open them the door to the bathroom.
