Some people thoroughly enjoy farming , my great grandparents had a large dairy farm and so did my great Grandfather's brother ! By the way northern seclusion its ironic that their last name was Jenson also ! In fact one of them moved to Minnasota , and sold his portion of his land to one of his brothers ! Keep doing what you love we have amazing history here and I'm very proud of it !!! They had over 300 acres at one time , 80 of that is is still in our family's..

It's would be the first thing that I would do as a way of training her to come to the door on her own . We always had the radio on during milking . When the old radio quit working the cows were restless and didn't let their milk down as easily . There milk production also drops a slight bit as well .

No way I would do all of this for 1 cow. I grew up milking 2 cows in the morning before school and 2 at night. I did this from the age of 6. We milked about 12, put the milk in milk cans, then into a big cooler of freezing water.. Milk truck would come every day to get our cans of milk, off to the milk plant and we would get a check every month. Never automatic milkers. Only milkers were my brothers and sisters and me. Feeding them and milking never took this long. Can you guys eat that much butter, drink all that milk and cream between the two of you?? You amaze me with all the work you did by yourself in the fencing, let alone cutting wood, a garden

I would close the wall between milk room and cleaning sink to segregate clean area from the cow and 31:32 32:07 cow piss and crap. Also rats will get into the feed bucket if you leave it out between milkings. Feed should not be kept in the cleaning area because of rats also. Also a small baffle to separate splatter from back of cow onto the milk machine. Better prepare for splash and splatter before it happens cause it will be a mess. (I grew up on a dairy farm 100-200 cows milked daily)
@NorthernSeclusion
@NorthernSeclusion 20 сағат бұрын
I will be putting a barrier between the clean area and the stanchion. I waited to make sure that area would work before going crazy on the build (if that makes sense). The milk inflation that you have plugged off, you should lay up over top of the machine help even out the down pressure while you’re milking, leaving it hanging out to the side like that put side pressure on the teats also you should move the milk pail closer to not put side pressure on the machine she will milk out a lot better with the machine hanging straight down

This style of milker takes 6 minutes to milk out. If you have your cleaning and prep down you can do this in 10-12 minutes start to finish. Hand milking is more 20-25 min depending on how good you are at hand milking. This machine pulses and mimics a calf sucking so it get ALL the milk out and fast. A milk machine can also reduce debris from falling into a bucket because it’s a closed system.
@arlodewald5378
@arlodewald5378 3 күн бұрын
I grew up milking with a milking machine very similar to theirs . With a little practice for you and the cow . A person can hand milk that cow from start to finish in under ten minutes. As far as debris , if you good washing there's a very very small chance once you know what you're doing milking by hand . It's can just as easily to suck a fly or debris in a machine milker putting it on and taking them off .

I read that vinegar is not safe to clean milking equipment and can encourage bacterial growth.

We do not milk her from December 1st until she calves on march. We are not stupid. There will be no -20 milking. Even if there was, the workshop building is heated so it will be the same temperature in there that it is now.

@@SC-bg2lv I get it and know what it is . The cow produces a lot of milk probably more than they will ever use . So not asking you I'm asking Joe what they do with that amount of milk .

You can sell raw milk in Minnesota. People get 8 to 12 dollars a gallon all day long for it. We already have people wanting it but for now we are using it for butter, cheese, drinking milk and giving some to the chickens has greatly reduced their feed consumption.

Get a cowbell and lean out of the barn and ring it. Train her the cowbell means getting milked. I bet you can get her trained to come in.

All I do is open the door and say "Come on" and she comes very fast. When I did this video I had been gone duck hunting for 4 days so she was used to Melissa calling her in. She gets a little snooty when we change people on her. Lol. Cow bell would work good.

We are going to start buying the grain 1 or 2 thousand pounds at a time, at that time we will start putting it in bins. We have at least 15 outdoor cats, there has not been a rodent now in almost 4 years.
