I love perch! That's what I am going for tomorrow! They are so aggressive, I love the under water view here. I just dont get people who dont like panfish, yeah I love big fish also but these little guys are just as fun.

It's been a rough year here in NY for myself. Can't find anything worth even chasing. I remember 30 years ago how good all of it was. Perch, walleye, Lakers, pike whatever you wanted to catch, you'd catch and nice ones. I've been practicing catch and release for over 30 years only keeping a fish here and there for a fresh meal. Then I see people caught filling buckets with under sized out of season fish and Game Warden tells them to dump all the dead fish back into the water and not to do it again because they didn't speak English but, I've had friends get issued hundreds of dollars in fines just for having their girlfriends license on them? That's how we end up exactly where we are now

We sometimes have to chase the perch as deep as 50 or more feet on Canyon Ferry Reservoir in Montana. I personally don't fish them that deep but some people will follow them regardless. I've heard of people catching them in 80ft in the dead of winter. I rarely fish deeper then 35ft as it kills the fish.

Them are small perch. I know a spot in south central Wisconsin where you have a hard time catching one under ten inches. They average 11-12 inches. Nobody talks about it and I am glad! It rivals anything I see out west of Wisconsin. It is not Lake Michigan either. Walleyes are plenty too but small because of no slot or size limit. When you catch 10-13 inch perch all day what does the walleye matter anyway?
