NORTHSEAKAYAK - The Trip #6 - Ile de Bréhat

Third time to Ile de Bréhat, and again very different than previous times. We had neap tide, but a strong wind blowing from the W to WSW (always between force 4 & 5, gusting 6). Proved perfect to do some rescue training as well. We could also visit the local lifeboat and lifeboat station on our resting day. Enjoy the footage!

Wow mooi kajakken. En dan zie je weer dat het gevaar in een klein hoekje zit op zee. Zijn toch scherpe rotsen. Mooie training.

Dankjewel hoor! Ja, dat is inderdaad héél juist! We beseffen dat maar al te goed, vandaar dat we elke training hierop oefenen. De originele beelden leren ons dat evacuatie van ons beide in minder dan 3 minuten is gebeurd. Fantastisch toch!💪😎

@@Northseakayak Zeker fantastisch. Veiligheid boven alles, ik kijk graag naar jullie filmpjes waar jullie op veiligheid trainen en het een 2de natuur wordt. Het kan zo snel mis gaan op zee. Lijkt me wel zonde om zulke mooie kajaks te beschadigen op die rotsen het zijn immers geen 200 euro Decathlon kajaks.

@@mpspuij dankjewel om ons te volgen! Valt mee hoor, wat schade betreft. Enkele krasjes en dat is het, meer niet. Kajaks zijn oerdegelijk. Zeker die polyethyleen boten die we ginds gebruiken.

@@Northseakayak Ik had net al eens goed gekeken ze leken me ook polyethyleen, maar toch kosten ze best wat., ik heb zelf een recreative polyethyleen kajak maar 3,66 m lang en 73 cm breed en redelijk vlakke bodem dit vanwege een defect evenwicht. Zo lig ik minder snel om. Helaas kan er geen schort om de kuip want die schijnt te ruim te zijn. Telkens als ik weer ga kajakken moet ik mijn balans opnieuw vinden dat is heel vreemd en soms best angstig omdat je niet weet waar het punt ligt waar je om gaat. Dat moet ik dan testen om te zien wat de grenzen zijn. Zee kajakken is denk ik voor mij niet weggelegd zeker niet met een smallere kajak. Jammer want ik woon ook aan zee. Mijn kajak bestaat uit een gespoten onder en boven helft die gelast zijn daardoor is deze toch erg licht. Misschien trek ik de stoute schoenen ooit aan en ga ik een smallere kajak proberen.

@@mpspuij begrijp het, maar het draait gewoon om de fun die je eraan hebt. Je hoeft daarvoor zeker niet de capriolen uit te voeren om je te amuseren. Zolang het op je eigen niveau is, en dat alles veilig verloopt ben je volgens mij goed bezig hoor! Onze eerste bootjes waren ook een totaal verschil dan wat we nu hebben, check maar es onze oudste video's. Véél plezier op het water!

Hi Tom! Thank you! Both Sylvie and I are using 70° feather on all of our paddles. We're used to have much wind, and therefor it is more efficient. 90° would be theoretically perfect, but bad for wrists.

Hi Massimo, I would reccommend LV (low volume) or MV (mid volume) sized kayaks. But that is merely a guideline. Best thing to do is test the kayak before you buy, or at least a similar kayak from the same brand. Sizes are different with different brands. Never go for a HV (high volume) with that bodyweight, that is for sure. Otherwise the boat will paddle with you , and not the other way around. Best of luck!

@@gw6797 extremely versatile, at the cost of a bit of speed. See it as a complete sea kayak, it a short package. Very manouvrable and surfs well. But again, speed is a tiny bit lower, wich is normal and logic.

Hi Sylvie and Dimitri, nice to see your trips to the French coast! I reconize some of the scenery in your video, since I passed by the Ile de Bréhat in 2020 during my solo kayak expedition from the Netherlands to Spain: on the island is a camp site called "camping municipal de Bréhat". I did not stay on the camping, but just west of it is a passage from south to north. That's were I passed. So our kayaks experiences crossed there!😊 Best regards from Spain.
