Hi Ian, Thanks for watching! Yes, we did a recon of that specific gully and trained in it last year as well. Since it was in the video, this years team specifically asked for this! 🙂 Of course we didn't say no. We just altered the scenario a bit. Last year they were allowed to land nearby, now they needed to bring the victim to a raft in awaiting of SAR. They all did a wonderfull job!

Wat een mooie omgeving om te trainen. Als ik wat kilo's kwijt ben en betere conditie en ik durf het aan om met een zeekayak het zoute water op te gaan dan zou ik wel eens mee willen.

@@Northseakayak Dat zou leuk zijn. Ik heb alleen een handicap, defect evenwicht. Het is bijna niet uit te leggen wat het effect daarvan is. Maar kayakken op vlak water in een brede recreatieve kayak gaat prima. Een smalle zeekayak in golfslag lig ik snel om. Ik wil nog wel eens een zeekayak op vlak water proberen en mijn eigen recreatieve kayak op een mooie zomerdag op zee om te kijken of ik recht blijf ;-) Als me dat nu lukt dan zie ik het wel zitten. Ik heb de plek in Croatia al 2 jaar geleden aan mijn GPS toegevoegd mocht ik ooit die kant uit gaan.

@@mpspuij OK, alle begrip en sorry dat je dit probleem hebt. Overweeg inderdaad maar goed zodat je er echt plezier aan kan beleven. Van ons ben je sowieso welkom! Enige voorwaarde (zie website Spirit of Korkyra) is om 20km non-stop te kunnen peddelen. Dit is enkel om ergens een fysieke grens te leggen. Voor de rest zorgen wij! Veel groeten! @@Northseakayak Geen probleem, geen sorry nodig. Bedankt voor je uitleg. Soms moet je voorbij je comfort zone gaan. Als je de zee opgaat is veiligheid het belangrijkste, voorbereiding, en oefenen voor als het echt mis gaat, ik onderschat de zee niet. Als het mis gaat kan het al heel snel dramatisch worden. We leven aan dezelfde Noordzee ik 50 km noordelijker. Ik heb zeker lol in kayakken. Voorlopig hou ik me op in binnenwateren, riviertjes, meren, plekken zoals de Bieschbos. Ik ga het zeker overwegen. Mijn langste peddel toch was 15,5 km daar zat dan wel een kleine pauze in.

Ik kijk vanuit Australië en het ziet er leuk uit daar! I haven't seen the assisted rescue at 06:24 where you get in your kayak and slide off the other kayak before - interesting! Is that something you would do when the water is very cold or was it a bit of fun?

Would be an honour, we had not trained with someone from Australia before.😎💪 As for the Cleopatras Needle rescue: the slide of is more fun but not necessary. The swimmer can easily get back in het boat when it is just next to the rescuer his boat, even without going back in the water. Cheers!

Hello Roberto from Argentina! Thank you for your support! A rudder is a personal choice. I don't like rudders unless in combination with a type "fast sea kayak ". With all normal, standard kayaks, you can steer your kayak with proper technique (see our video: Advanced Manoeuvres). Cheers!😊👌

@@Northseakayak hi...I watched all your videos and I saw that you don't use a rudder...here in my city we have a river, not sea like you...my kayak is made of 5.10 plastic I know that for certain winds or waves I need a rudder , but I don't want to use it... thanks for answering me... I see many kayakers, also on youtube, using handheld pumps. I am not in favour of them, because in serious kayak incidents people tend to lose gear that is not attached to their kayaks...

Same here. Although we use them as less a possible, we still carry them with us at all times. Normally we can get rid of the water in our kayaks without the use of the pump. But during exercises in calmer conditions, we still use them to get the last sip of water out of the compartment. Cheers!😊👍
